A Study Of Π – Π Stacking Interactions In Rhenium Carbonyl Complexes Based On Backbone Functionalized Bis(Pyrazolyl)Methane Ligands, Balamani Guduru
A Study Of Π – Π Stacking Interactions In Rhenium Carbonyl Complexes Based On Backbone Functionalized Bis(Pyrazolyl)Methane Ligands, Balamani Guduru
Masters Theses
π – π Stacking interactions are one of the most important non-covalent inter-molecular forces, which play an important role in the architecture of 1D and 2D networks of supramolecular chemistry. This associative contact involves the attractive interactions of aromatic molecules with each other. To describe and study the strength of the π – π stacking interactions, four new bis(pyrazolyl)ethanamine ligands having different aromatic groups (1-pyrenyl, 1-naphthyl, 2-naphthyl, and 9-anthracenyl) known for their propensity to be involved in π – π stacking interactions were prepared by the reaction of one equivalent of bis(pyrazolyl)ethanamine with one equivalent of the corresponding aromatic aldehyde. …

Hybrid Learning And Standards Based Grading: Fostering Writing Instruction During A Pandemic, Elizabeth Dietz
Hybrid Learning And Standards Based Grading: Fostering Writing Instruction During A Pandemic, Elizabeth Dietz
Masters Theses
Hybrid learning is steadily growing in popularity and showing to be an effective learning modality to accommodate diverse student populations. The pandemic is an unexpected outlier in the overall picture of hybrid learning, and it is helpful to reflect upon best academic practices, including grading methods, to help mitigate loss of learning and to continue to make improvements in pedagogical practices. This thesis explores the relationship between the hybrid learning model and evaluation, specifically Standards Based Grading, and how this combination of methods influences best writing practices. Using reflections gathered from teacher surveys via a case study, it appears the …
Twenty-Nine Delusions Concerning Love, Jackie Donaldson
Twenty-Nine Delusions Concerning Love, Jackie Donaldson
Masters Theses
Twenty-Nine Delusions Concerning Love is the story of my relationship. I narrate the relationship's unfolding through the contexts of philosophy and cultural theory, and through artifacts of my own work rendered since the relationship's inception in December of 2020. The purpose of this project was to identify a gap in the autotheory genre, and to fill that gap with my own meaningful contribution -- a book which hybridizes life writing with prose and poetry. This piece is both a narration of my own experience, and an investigation into hookup culture and the way technology has redefined the modern romantic relationship. …

Together We RISE (Making Excellence Inclusive)
As our education systems become increasingly diverse, it is crucial for “diverse” students to see themselves reflected in the course materials they consume as this may lead to higher persistence, retention and overall student success. It is also vital for “non-diverse” students to gain a better understanding of the experiences of others particularly as they navigate a world which is much more diverse and global minded than ever before.
Racial And Implicit Bias: Diagnosis Disparities In The African Diaspora: Implications For Counseling Practice, Jahaan Abdullah
Racial And Implicit Bias: Diagnosis Disparities In The African Diaspora: Implications For Counseling Practice, Jahaan Abdullah
Together We RISE (Making Excellence Inclusive)
Disparities in healthcare are far from uncommon. Research demonstrates there are disproportionate diagnoses of psychiatric disorders and mental health disorders for those in the African Diaspora. African Americans are three to four time more likely to receive a more stigmatizing psychotic disorder diagnosis than Caucasian Americans (Schwartz & Blankenship, 2014). Presenters in this session will discuss the disparity in diagnosis for those in the African diaspora. Additionally, data associated with this research, the corresponding increased trauma associated with more stigmatizing diagnoses and the paucity in counseling research regarding these disparities will be discussed.

2021 Celebration Of Scholarship, Creativity, And Engagement, Todd Bruns, Beth Heldebrandt
Programs
At this annual celebration, we, as a shared community, are pleased that the important work of faculty continues and evolves as faculty have broadened and redefined the boundaries of scholarship, creativity, and innovation throughout the COVID, late-COVID, and soon-to-be post-COVID eras. While we are pleased to return to more familiar campus-based traditions, functions, and activities, the experiences of 2020-2021 have contributed to the development of new forms and strategies for scholarship and creativity that reflect the core principles of faculty life and ensure that student learning remains central to the mission of Eastern Illinois University.
For that reason, our faculty, …
