Surveying Computer Graphic Trends, Angela Bradley
Surveying Computer Graphic Trends, Angela Bradley
Masters Theses
Computer graphics is a new tool for the visual artist. Historic and educational theories and facts outline the rapid growth of the medium and how it has become an essential tool for educators, researchers and businesses. Business applications remain at the periphery of computer graphic applications, but are included in the general trend of the new medium's development.
Visual art generated through computer graphic imaging is exemplified in the work of artists: Barbara Nessim, computer graphic student, Jim Squires, and the team of computer graphic artists, Richard Chuang and Glenn Entis. Nessim is a career graphic designer and artist, who …
Some Effects Of Viterra 2 Hydrogel On Soil Physics And Plant Growth, Julia E. Maserang
Some Effects Of Viterra 2 Hydrogel On Soil Physics And Plant Growth, Julia E. Maserang
Masters Theses
The effects of hydrogel on various aspects of plant growth and soil physics were determined for Tagetes patula (marigold) and Vinca rosea growing in 'PRO-MIX' soilless potting medium.
The addition of hydrogel at various concentrations to the potting medium increased the water-holding capacity of the medium, thus extending the hours-to-wilt of plants growing in this medium. While hydrogel had no effect on plant height, flowering time, plant color, soil pH or soil nitrate concentration, plant weight and flower number did appear to increase between the control and highest hydrogel treatment. As hydrogel concentration within the medium increased, percent total seed …
Fecal Coliform Membrane Filtration Recovery Techniques, Pamela Rose Rinebold
Fecal Coliform Membrane Filtration Recovery Techniques, Pamela Rose Rinebold
Masters Theses
Researchers over the years have been trying to improve recovery techniques for fecal coliform bacteria. Improved techniques would provide better estimates of the number of fecal coliform bacteria as well as better estimates of fecal contamination with potential pathogenicity of food and water.
Stressed, but viable, fecal coliform bacteria if placed under the appropiate conditions, can recover, thus presenting the possibility of inadequate disinfection. Chlorine sanitization, as done in potable and wastewater treatment, is one such method of stressing bacteria.
Techniques of recovery were studied using presumably unstressed and chlorine stressed samples. Phase one of this study was the comparison …
Evaluating School District 428'S Curriculum Media Development Center's Clientele, Randolph H. Burge
Evaluating School District 428'S Curriculum Media Development Center's Clientele, Randolph H. Burge
Masters Theses
The Curriculum Media Development Center was conceptualized by the Illinois Office of Education and Vocational Services and the Illinois Depaartment of Corrections to meet the need for specially developed instructional materials in reading and math for Title I students being served by School District 428. The project began in 1974 and was located at the Illinois Youth Center, St. Charles. However, during 1979, it became apparent that because of its location in Kane County, the Curriculum Media Development Center was providing services primarily to those institutions in the northeast quadrant of Illinois. In January of 1980 the decision was made …
Educational Poll Of Public Attitudes Regarding Decatur School District #61, David Ford Curtis
Educational Poll Of Public Attitudes Regarding Decatur School District #61, David Ford Curtis
Masters Theses
Public opinion regarding the schools in Decatur Public School District #61 is addressed in this field experience. The study focuses on a comparison of local public opinion to national public opinion.
The questionnaire for the telephone survey was developed by selecting 11 questions from the 1982 Gallup education poll and adding a question regarding merit pay for teachers.
The local telephone survey included a random sampling from the Decatur, Illinois telephone directory of 200 residents living within Decatur Public School District #61. Each respondent was placed into three subgroups--parent or non-parent, age level, and highest level of formal education received. …
Self Assessment Model For Local Boards Of Education To Evaluate Effectiveness, Charles N. Sutton
Self Assessment Model For Local Boards Of Education To Evaluate Effectiveness, Charles N. Sutton
Masters Theses
Statement of Purpose
The purpose of this field study was to develop a model self-assessment process for local boards of education. Since 1977, this researcher has served as Assistant Regional Superintendent of Schools in Champaign and Ford Counties. From that experience the researcher determined that many local boards do not define and implement a formal self-evaluation process. Of the twenty-one school districts in Champaign and Ford Counties only three have planned and conducted a self-assessment program during the past four years. Since 1983, 57 per cent of the total school board membership of these districts has changed.
In 1985, the …
A Study To Determine The Extent Of A Justification For A Building Bond Referendum In Mt. Zion, Illinois, Robert Herrmann
A Study To Determine The Extent Of A Justification For A Building Bond Referendum In Mt. Zion, Illinois, Robert Herrmann
Masters Theses
The purpose of this field study was to determine the extent of a justification for a bond referendum that would provide the funds for additional facilities for the Mt. Zion High School. This study is concerned with the action taken to achieve that goal.
An overview of the community's history with regard to education was relevant to understanding the importance of education in this community. The problem that faced the community was overcrowded facilities and lack of updated curriculum. A growth in population was addressed in terms of its impact on the educational facilities at the high school.
This field …
Partial Characterization Of The Extracellular Polysaccharides Produced By Mutants Of Rhizobium Leguminosarum And Rhizobium Trifolii, Lendell L. Cummins
Partial Characterization Of The Extracellular Polysaccharides Produced By Mutants Of Rhizobium Leguminosarum And Rhizobium Trifolii, Lendell L. Cummins
Masters Theses
Extracellular polysaccharides (EPS) are suspected to be involved in some aspect of the Rhizobium-legume symbiotic process. Extracellular polysaccharides produced by R. leguminosarum and R. trifolii mutants were isolated and partially characterized by gas chromatography, column chromatography, double diffusion, polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and immunoelectrophoresis.
The R. leguminosarum mutants, derived from strain 128C53, all are deficient in EPS production (exo-). Strain ANU54 is missing the symbiotic plasmid, while plasmid-containing strains ANU54 pJB5JI and ANU54 pBR1AN nodulate (nod+) peas and clover respectively, but do not fix nitrogen (fix-).
R. leguminosarum mutants produce an EPS that is similar to parental LPS in composition. …

The Future Of Equipment Repair In School Media Centers In Central Illinois, Connie Peters
The Future Of Equipment Repair In School Media Centers In Central Illinois, Connie Peters
Masters Theses
This project concerned repair of equipment in school media centers. A survey was designed and distributed to area media specialists and administrators.
The author found that media specialists, in general, view repair as a coming fact of life -- something of a necessity for the future. On the other hand, some administrators said that they didn't want their media specialists involved in repair work. The author's recommendations included:
- Media specialists, increasingly, need to have at least minimal skills in maintenance and repair of equipment.
- In order to acquire these skills, school districts will need to A. provide workshops (training), and …
