Androgyny And Occupational Choice, Ruth Carol Ellerbusch
Androgyny And Occupational Choice, Ruth Carol Ellerbusch
Masters Theses
Sex-role orientation was investigated in terms of how it related to occupational choice. Sex-role orientation was defined in the following manner: one was either androgynous, masculine, feminine or indeterminate (Bern, 1974). Androgyny is a term used to describe individuals who are flexible in their sex-role orientation, individuals who are capable of being both instrumental and expressive, assertive and yielding, independent and dependent. Masculinity is associated with an instrumental orientation, a concern for oneself and getting the job done and a fondness for what man can make. Femininity is associated with an expressive communal orientation, an affective concern for the welfare …
The Distribution Of Cadmium, Chromium And Lead In Crabs, Clams And Oysters From Calcasieu Estuary, Louisiana, Fritz Jaenike
The Distribution Of Cadmium, Chromium And Lead In Crabs, Clams And Oysters From Calcasieu Estuary, Louisiana, Fritz Jaenike
Masters Theses
In November 1978, specimens of oysters (Crassostrea virginica), clams (Rangia cuneata), crabs (Callinectes sapidus) and water and sediment samples were collected from Calcasieu Estuary, Louisiana. The concentrations of cadmium, chromium and lead were determined in the samples with an inductively coupled argon plasma direct reading emission spectrophotometer. Crab claw muscle, gill and carapace tissues were analyzed separately. Oysters and clams were separated into shell and whole soft tissue samples which were analyzed separately. The concentration order of the metals in crab carapace and in oyster shells was similar to that of the sediments, (Pb …
Adventures In Health Careers Education, Lois M. Kloker
Adventures In Health Careers Education, Lois M. Kloker
Masters Theses
The purpose of the study was to interest students in health occupations and to provide information concerning personal qualifications, education, licensing, remuneration, career mobility and where more information could be obtained.
To accomplish this, health workers were invited to the school during the noon hour to speak to students who were interested. Interest was promoted by means of a prominently placed, permanent bulletin kept up-to-date with a year-schedule and a current-meeting announcement attached. Intercommunication system announcements were made the day prior to and the morning of each meeting. In addition, by means of a sign-up sheet to note attendance, a …

A Comparison Of The Effects Of Two Therapeutic Exercises On The Muscle Action Potential Of The Vastus Medialis, Janet J. Lozar
Masters Theses
Electromyography was utilized to compare the effects of two therapeutic exercises at two work loads in knee extension on the muscle action potential in the vastus medialis. One exercise was extension to 180 degrees with a four second isometric hold and flexion to 90 degrees. The other exercise was extension to 180 degrees, 15 degrees flexion, 15 degrees extension and flexion to 90 degrees. Each exercise lasted for 10 seconds.
The subjects in the study were 11 varsity female athletes from the fall and winter interscholastic athletic program at Eastern Illinois University. The subjects met for the first time to …
The Preparation Of A Student Handbook, Kenneth L. Miller
The Preparation Of A Student Handbook, Kenneth L. Miller
Masters Theses
The purpose of the field study project was to develop a functional student handbook for use at Crestwood School in Paris, Illinois. Crestwood School is a kindergarten through 8th grade elementary school and the initial intention was to produce a handbook for use at all nine grade levels. As the project took form, however, differences between the needs for grades K-5 and 6-8 became extensive to the point that it became obvious that separate handbooks would be required to fulfill the desired purposes. This project became, then, the production of the handbook for the middle school (6-8) grades.
Handbooks currently …

Notes On Seasonal Variation And Infectivity Of Haemogamasus Reidi, A Vector Of Hepatozoon Griseisciuri, On Eastern Gray Squirrels, Sciurus Carolinensis, Mohammed Bashiru
Masters Theses
Five hundred and twenty-two squirrels were trapped and retrapped from a population in Montgomery County, Maryland during 1974-1975. One hundred and forty-one squirrels were found to harbor an average of 10.6 mites (Range 175-1). While male squirrels outnumbered females (79 vs 62) females harbored more mites than males (829 vs 666). During the spring the average number of mites per captured squirrel increased to an average of 18.1 per squirrel. The average declined to 6.8, 4.8 and 3.3 per squirrel in summer, fall and winter respectively. Throughout the collection period adult female mites were by far more numerous on hosts …
