International Journal of Health Sciences Education

Due to the diversity within the healthcare system, it is important to promote cultural competency in healthcare providers. The integration of pedagogical approaches to cultural competency into health-related programs cannot be understated. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to develop an instrument to examine the student engagement in cultural competency-related activities within health-related degree programs and determine the relationship between engagement and cultural competency. Participants of the study included first- and fourth-year undergraduate students studying within a health-related program at a mid-sized, private university in the Midwestern US. McCorkle, J.D. has been named as the new Provost and Senior Vice President for Academics at East Tennessee State University.  She will assume this role in July, succeeding Dr. Wilsie S. Bishop, who is retiring at the end of June following forty-three years of distinguished service to the university.

Physiological muscle adaptations due to resistance training are still not fully known. The rate and area of hypertrophy could drastically help or hinder athletic performance. The purpose of this study was to observe the changes in lean body mass (and related factors), relative allometrically scaled strength and absolute strength through an 11-week block periodized resistance training program. The subjects (n = 15) realized an increase in total body water (pre = 49.77Kg; post = 51.70Kg), lean body mass (pre = 67.98Kg; post = 70.63Kg), adjusted lean body mass (pre = 20.35Kg; post = 21.03Kg) and cross sectional area (pre = …

(November 3, 2020) The opportunity to work as a graduate assistant at the Basler Center for Physical Activity was a deciding factor for Austin Seay when he was looking for a graduate program in sport management.

“I had worked in campus recreation while I was an undergraduate, and when I toured the ETSU facility and met the staff, it all clicked,” Seay said.  “I knew this campus was the place for me.”

The program will be offered through the Clemmer College and coincides with the launching of ETSU’s new esports varsity team which was announced last December.

According to Dr. Natalie Smith, the esports industry is booming, yet there are only 20 or less academic programs in the country.

Sport coaches are perceived as problem solvers who engage in creativity to handle the spontaneity of competitive activity and generate winning results. However, while creativity in athletes has been researched, little has been investigated regarding coaches. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine different aspects of creativity – person, process, press, and product – among collegiate team sport coaches in the United States. Specifically, how personality traits, ideational fluency, remote association ability, years of coaching experience, and work climate related to creative product impact and frequency.
