A Key And Classic Text: Ephesians 5:21-33, Katinka Nadine Ellen Evers
School of Theology and Seminary Graduate Papers/Theses
This paper is an exegesis of the difficult pericope of Ephesians 5:21-33, a stumbling block to many, but truly a cornerstone when viewed through Pope John Paul II’s Theology of the Body. After a brief introduction familiarizing readers with the passage, this paper shows how the section is treated by
Patristic authors (with Origen and Saint Jerome as examples), by feminist theologian E. Elizabeth Johnson, and by Peter T. O’Brien (who demonstrates an Evangelical Protestant view). This three-part essay reflects on the vocation of liturgical theologians in a culture in which there is a general antipathy toward the influence of religious rituals on personal formation and decision-making.1 Part ι considers a few foundational nineteenth-century authors of the American Renaissance for reflections on the aversion to Christian ritual behavior. Part 2 takes up the sermons of a few nineteenth-century revivalist preachers. Part 3 suggests five challenges to liturgical theologians who teach and think in the complex social and religious environment of the United States.

Saint Benedict’s Monastery Books
In With Lamps Burning, Sister Grace McDonald traced the growth of Saint Benedict’s Monastery from its establishment in Minnesota in 1857 to its centennial in 1957. It is the purpose of this sequel to capture the exciting and often troublesome challenges that faced this community in the last half of the twentieth century. It is a story of moving from a stable and predictable era to an explosive era of expanded knowledge, information, and communications that resulted in irreversible societal changes effected by such grassroots movements as civil rights, women’s rights, and environmental concerns, and by a Christian religious …
