An Automated Build System For Articulated Characters, James Sledge May 2014

An Automated Build System For Articulated Characters, James Sledge

All Theses

Rigging is the process of designing and implementing the manipulation architecture for an animated three-dimensional character. Rigs that give the animator the most control tend to be the most difficult to set up and maintain. Due to the linear nature of some elements of rigging, the more complicated a rig, the more time-intensive--and therefore more expensive--to achieve a high quality rig. A solution to complex rig iterability is to automate as much of the process as possible. The topic of this thesis is a framework for modular rigging automation, with a focus on quick and efficient rig iteration. A rigger …

9th Annual Focus On Creative Inquiry Poster Forum Program, Clemson University Apr 2014

9th Annual Focus On Creative Inquiry Poster Forum Program, Clemson University

Focus on Creative Inquiry

The 2014 Focus on Creative Inquiry Poster Forum displays a selection of the projects accomplished by Clemson University students in their Creative Inquiry teams. What is Creative Inquiry? It is small-group learning for all students, in all disciplines. It is the imaginative combination of engaged learning and undergraduate research – and it is unique to Clemson University. In Creative inquiry, small teams of undergraduate students work with faculty mentors to take on problems that spring from their own curiosity, a professor’s challenge, or the pressing needs of the world around them. Students take ownership of their projects. They ask questions, …

Synthesis And Characterization Of Extractive Scintillating Resin For Ultra-Trace-Level Quantification Of Uranium In Aqueous Media, C Duval, V Bliznyuk, A Seliman, T Devol, S Husson Apr 2014

Synthesis And Characterization Of Extractive Scintillating Resin For Ultra-Trace-Level Quantification Of Uranium In Aqueous Media, C Duval, V Bliznyuk, A Seliman, T Devol, S Husson

Graduate Research and Discovery Symposium (GRADS)

The detection and quantification of radionuclides in aqueous media is of interest to both the Environmental Protection Agency, for matters of public health, and international organizations like the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organization, that use environmental samples to investigate claims of illicit nuclear activities. The current method of quantification involves batch style analytical techniques which utilize bulky instruments. Portable, flow cell detectors utilizing extractive scintillating resin with physically sorbed extractants and fluorophores have been developed; however, this resin shows poor long term stability as the active components leach from the resin over time. There is a need to develop chemically …

Factors Affecting Adolescent Motivation In Reading, Emily Howell Apr 2014

Factors Affecting Adolescent Motivation In Reading, Emily Howell

Publications

The following synthesis addresses adolescent literacy and motivation, speciically how to increase intrinsic motivation in a stage of life where students are typically less driven to read. The author analyzed ifteen studies to expand upon the themes of independent reading, choice, in-school versus out-of-school literacies, and self-eicacy. Based upon the indings from these themes, the author discusses research and teaching implications from the theoretical framework of participatory cultures.

Integrating Algaculture Into Small Wastewater Treatment Plants: Process Flow Options And Life Cycle Impacts, Muriel M. Steele, Annick Anctil, David A. Ladner Apr 2014

Integrating Algaculture Into Small Wastewater Treatment Plants: Process Flow Options And Life Cycle Impacts, Muriel M. Steele, Annick Anctil, David A. Ladner

Publications

Algaculture has the potential to be a sustainable option for nutrient removal at wastewater treatment plants. The purpose of this study was to compare the environmental impacts of three likely algaculture integration strategies to a conventional nutrient removal strategy. Process modeling was used to determine life cycle inventory data and a comparative life cycle assessment was used to determine environmental impacts. Treatment scenarios included a base case treatment plant without nutrient removal, a plant with conventional nutrient removal, and three other cases with algal unit processes placed at the head of the plant, in a side stream, and at the …

A Genomewide Overexpression Screen Identifies Genes Involved In The Phosphatidylinositol 3-Kinase Pathway In The Human Protozoan Parasite Entamoeba Histolytica, Amrita B. Koushik, Brenda H. Welter, Michelle L. Rock, Lesly A. Temesvari Mar 2014

A Genomewide Overexpression Screen Identifies Genes Involved In The Phosphatidylinositol 3-Kinase Pathway In The Human Protozoan Parasite Entamoeba Histolytica, Amrita B. Koushik, Brenda H. Welter, Michelle L. Rock, Lesly A. Temesvari

Publications

Entamoeba histolytica is a protozoan parasite that causes amoebic dysentery and liver abscess. E. histolytica relies on motility, phagocytosis, host cell adhesion, and proteolysis of extracellular matrix for virulence. In eukaryotic cells, these processes are mediated in part by phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) signaling. Thus, PI3K may be critical for virulence. We utilized a functional genomics approach to identify genes whose products may operate in the PI3K pathway in E. histolytica. We treated a population of trophozoites that were overexpressing genes from a cDNA library with a near-lethal dose of the PI3K inhibitor wortmannin. This screen was based on the rationale …

The Work Of Authorship, Mireille Van Eechoud

A repository of copyright educational resources for higher education

This volume brings together scholars from a range of disciplines to explore the challenges inherent in translating aesthetics and creativity studies to concepts of copyright, especially as longstanding approaches are troubled by the rise of digital.

The last chapter of this book has a section on the disconnect between copyright law and cultural norms in scientific publishing.
