Women In Law, Anne Trebilcock
Women In Law, Anne Trebilcock
Women's Studies Quarterly
With women entering law in record numbers, law school curricula are changing to include a feminist perspective. Yet a great need remains for more feminist attorneys, jurists, and legislators. While law has lent itself to abuse by oppressive forces, it can be an aid in the liberation of women and other underrepresented groups. But isn't the problem of too few women lawyers taking care of itself? Granted, the female percentage of law students nationwide has more than doubled in the last five years. In the fall of 1972, 12,172 women were enrolled in 149 American Bar Association approved law schools. …

The Histones Associated With Condensed And Extended Chromatin Of Mouse Liver, Carol Johmann, Ronald A. Eckhardt, Martin A. Gorovsky
The Histones Associated With Condensed And Extended Chromatin Of Mouse Liver, Carol Johmann, Ronald A. Eckhardt, Martin A. Gorovsky
Publications and Research
Histones were extracted from isolated mouse liver nuclei, and from mouse liver condensed and extended chromatin. Mouse liver histones were found to be very similar to those of calf thymus in their solubility properties, relative electrophoretic mobilities, and molecular weights as determined on SDS-polyacrylamide gels. Quantitative analysis by high-resolution gel electrophoresis demonstrated a remarkable similarity between the histones of condensed chromatin and those of extended chromatin. However, minor differences were found. A unique subspecies was found only in condensed chromatin histone and the relative amounts of fractions F2A1 and F2A2 differed in the two types of chromatin. The ratio of …

Textbook Suit Filed In Kalamazoo, The Feminist Press
Women's Studies Quarterly
On May 31, the Committee to Study Sex Discrimination in the Kalamazoo Public Schools filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare under Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972. The complaint alleges that the 12 textbooks of the Houghton Mifflin Elementary Reading Program, recently adopted by the Kalamazoo Public Schools which will be in use for the next 5 years, discriminate against girls and women. A preliminary study of the textbooks showed them to be objectionable because of sex role stereotyping and an unfair portrayal of the performance and potential of women.
Mc Aulay Vs. Board Of Education: If You Want To Be A Test Case..., Mary Mcaulay
Mc Aulay Vs. Board Of Education: If You Want To Be A Test Case..., Mary Mcaulay
Women's Studies Quarterly
My initial confrontation with the New York City Board of Education bureaucracy came when I objected strongly to a written directive from my principal telling his administrators to hire only male teachers. After 13 years of teaching, I was abruptly given an unsatisfactory rating and a punitive transfer. N.Y. State Supreme Court Judge Wilfred A. Waltemade ruled that all I had done was criticize the administration and that punishment without any sort of a hearing was "repugnant to the principles of justice." The Board of Education duly gave me a hearing which found me guilty as charged. N.Y. State Supreme …
