Migrant Workers Rights From A Human Rights Perspective, Padma Rani

Asian Review

Migrant workers constitute 59% of the migrant population. Migrants contribute to growth and development in their place of destination, while the place of origin benefits from their remittances and the skills acquired. Migration is here to stay, it has multiple benefits, and it is a fundamental human right to work and move in freedom. The two main approaches to deal with migration-the migration management and the human rights approach. The human rights approach is based on international human rights law. Under international human rights law, all migrants are entitled to respect, protection, and full enjoyment of their human rights, regardless …

Monitoring The Land Cover Changes In Mangrove Areas And Urbanization Using Normalized Difference Vegetation Index And Normalized Difference Built-Up Index In Krabi Estuary Wetland, Krabi Province, Thailand, Katawut Waiyasusri

Applied Environmental Research

Krabi Estuary Wetland (KEW) is an outstanding wetland with an estuary environment. At present, the tourism industry has rapidly grown, resulting in the impact of land cover changes. This research aims to assess the changes that have occurred in the KEW from 1999 to 2020 using NDVI and NDBI for monitoring changes in mangrove areas and urbanization in Krabi Province, Thailand. Landsat satellite images in years 1999, 2009 and 2020 were classified by using a band ratio to create land cover maps. The results show that NDVI between 0.41–1.00 clearly shows the mangrove forest area, while NDBI between 0.01–0.40 shows …

Synergistic Effect Of Waste Feedstock Mixture And Torrefaction Pre-Treatment On Some Briquette Characteristics Of Cornhusk And Sawdust Wastes, Mufutau A. Waheed, Opeyemi A. Akogun

Applied Environmental Research

Agricultural waste management through energy recovery is one of the critical options that could drive the clean energy production industry and properly replace the use of coal in Nigeria if done sustainably. The objective of this work therefore is to study the synergetic effect of waste feedstock mixture and torrefaction pre-treatment on some physical and performance characteristics of briquettes from cornhusk (CH) and sawdust (SD) wastes. In this work, CH and SD wastes were processed raw and torrefied at 200 to 300 °C and were mixed in the ratios between 90/10 and 10/90 for briquette production using D-optimal crossed design. …

Background: Several studies have demonstrated multidirectional effects of paracetamol (acetaminophen; APAP) treatment on the central nervous system. Recently, an alteration of learning and memory have been reported following long-term APAP exposure; however, the mechanism underlying these detrimental effects of APAP treatment is not fully clarified. Objectives: To investigate the effect of chronic APAP treatment on the microglia activation and neuroinflammation in the hippocampus. Methods: Male Wistar rats (weighting 250 - 300 g) in the APAP-treated group was once a day gavaged with 200 mg/kg bodyweight APAP for 30 days, while distilled water at the same volume was orally delivered to …

PASAA

When learning high- and mid-frequency words, approximately 5,000 words might be inadequate for learners to survive in a career as a tourist guide. This paper aims to construct technical word lists for Thai tourist guides to serve as supplementary learning materials. Different word lists need different criteria for their construction. Three main methods are used to construct word lists: lexical profiling, eliminating off-list words, and expert verification. The self-compiled corpus comprising 653,196 tokens gathered from www.tourismthailand.org is used to construct six sub word lists including the technical word list for Thai tourist guides containing 391 words and the technical word …

Bottom-Up Enactments Of Overseas Professional Learning And Development By Thai University English Teachers, Indika Liyanage, Phatchara Phantharakphong, Piyada Sudathip, Ong-Art Namwong

PASAA

English language education policy is deployed strategically as an instrument to address wider national policy objectives in most emerging nations. In universities, policy enactment at institutional and classroom levels hinges on the development of a qualified and skilled English teaching workforce. The continued dominance of linear discourses of the relation of learning and practice and reliance on individual teacher agency to achieve policy objectives, however, risk policy failure. This paper reports the ‘bottom-up’ enactments of teacher professional learning and development (PLD) policy using reflections of three Thai university English teachers who individually completed PLD in overseas English-dominant settings. We found …
