In June 1978, the first-year English programme at Chiang Mai University1 was changed so that students from the Humanities and Social Sciences Faculties followed General English courses and students from the science and technology faculties followed English for Science students courses in both the first year (English 191 and 192) add the second year (English 291 and 292). The new English 291 and 292 courses, relating to English 191 and 192 courses in the first year, were introduced in June 1979. Since June 1978, graduate students in science and technology faculties have taken the course English 5032.

"Toponymy" seems to be a little know subdivision of onomastics, the broader field of the study of names in general, i.e. of the vocabulary of a language. "Toponym" means simply "place name", and "toponymy" has been defined as "the study of linguistic designations for places and other aspects of geographical reference" (Hymes 1964 : 176). The Soviet psychologist, Vygotsky, likens the comparative difficulty for a child in acquiring speech and writing to the difficulty he finds in learning arithmetic and algebra respectively. ในบรรดาวรรณกรรมทั้งหลายของสเปนที่มีอยู่มากมายนั้น ผลงานชิ้นที่ได้รับการยกย่อง และมี ชื่อเสียงเป็นที่รู้จักไปทั่วโลก ได้แก่นวนิยายเรื่อง "ดอน กิโฆเต้ อัจฉริยบุรุษแห่งลามันชา" ("EI Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha") แต่งโดย มิเกล เด เซรบันเตส ซาเบดรา (Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra) นักประพันธ์เอกชาวสเปน ผู้มีชีวิตอยู่ในระหว่างช่วงสุดท้ายของศตวรรษที่ 16 ถึง ต้นศตวรรษที่ 17 คุณค่าที่ได้รับจากการอ่านนวนิยายเรื่องนี้ นอกจากจะได้รับความสนุกสนานเพลิดเพลินแล้ว หากวิเคราะห์ให้ลึกซึ้งลงไปจะพบว่า เบื้องหลังความสนุกสนานและขบขันนั้น เซรบันเตสได้ตีแผ่ให้เห็นถึง ความขัดแย้งภายในตัวมนุษย์ ตลอดจนแสดงให้เห็นถึงอุดมคติที่ฝังลึกอยู่ในจิตวิญญาณมนุษย์ที่ควรค่าแก่การยกย่อง และมีลักษณะที่เป็นสากลได้อย่างดีเลิศ
