Understanding Thai Urban Pedestrian Culture During Noon Break : How Sidewalk Users Experience The Walking Infrastructure In Bangkok, Thailand, Shusak Janpathompong, Akinobu Murakami
NAKHARA (Journal of Environmental Design and Planning)
The noon break or lunch hour in Bangkok’s central business district (CBD) is when pedestrians wander around for various activities and purposes, in addition to having a meal, within a limited time frame. It is the only break from their daily working routines for energy recovery or socializing, which, in turn, increases readiness to continue working in the afternoon. Commercial activities preferred by pedestrians during this break contribute to increased economic activity. Since pedestrian behavior depends on the cultural context, this research aims to understand Thai urban pedestrian culture that benefits the public, both socially and economically, and to investigate …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Agency, Responsibility, And Actor Positioning In Courtroom Narratives, Krisda Chaemsaithong
Agency, Responsibility, And Actor Positioning In Courtroom Narratives, Krisda Chaemsaithong
Manusya, Journal of Humanities
Viewing language as a system consisting of grammatical resources for meaning making, this study explores how agency and responsibility are attributed in legal narratives through the lens of transitivity. Drawing upon the opening address of three American trials, the quantitative and qualitative findings indicate that agency and blameworthiness of the individuals on trial are discursively negotiated through starkly different grammatical choices, so that polarized positionings of the same social actors and events are accomplished for the audience. It is argued that such manipulation of grammatical resources exhibits subjective intervention on the part of the presenter and constitutes a prime mechanism …

Natural Language Processing For Digital Advertising, Yiping Jin
Natural Language Processing For Digital Advertising, Yiping Jin
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Advertising is not only a marketing or sales activity but a particular form of two-way communication. In this thesis, we propose to apply the two main subtasks of natural language processing (NLP), namely natural language understanding (NLU) and natural language generation (NLG), to digital advertising to enhance the effectiveness of advertising. We apply weakly-supervised text classification to rapidly build text classifiers for contextual advertising (Jin et al. 2022). The method requires a handful of labeled keywords instead of a large corpus of labeled documents and can be easily transferred to new domains. We further evaluate the weakly-supervised models using unsupervised …

Metaverse And Crypto Art During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Bussakorn Binson
Journal of Urban Culture Research
The situation under the COVID-19 pandemic has caused changes in ones worklife and interpersonal communications due to health and safety concerns resulting in a distance and remoteness from one another. Many people managed to work at home or so called "work from home" facilitated by computing devices, the internet and software tele-communication platforms. Computing literacy has become a basic skill needed for everyone not only for communications purposes, but to create more forms of online businesses during the locked down. Creation of a virtual world, following the Second Life concept (founded by Philip Rosedale, 2007) which provides an online space …
Metabolite Profile And Biological Activities Of Crude Early Immature Durian Durio Zibethinus Fruit Extracts, Putthamas Pewlong
Metabolite Profile And Biological Activities Of Crude Early Immature Durian Durio Zibethinus Fruit Extracts, Putthamas Pewlong
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Durian (Durio zibethinus) is a popularly consumed fruit in Thailand. To maintain the quality of fruit including size and taste, lots of early immature durian fruit (30-45 days after anthesis) were thinned. Therefore, the fruit at this stage is considered as an agricultural waste and there is no study focusing on this waste yet. The aim of the present study was to investigate the metabolite profile and biological activities related to human skin and hair dermal papilla cells. Four groups of primary metabolites (sugars, organic acids, amino acids, and miscellaneous) were annotated using GC-MS, meanwhile HPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS analysis was performed to …
Utilization Of Cardiac Time Intervals By A Customized Electrocardiography And Phonocardiography Device To Evaluate Cardiac Function In Healthy And Degenerative Mitral Valve Disease (Dmvd) Dogs, Karlo Romano Gicana
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Cardiac time intervals (CTI) are the indices that provide information on the systolic and diastolic function of the heart. The use of echocardiography is considered the gold standard tool for recognizing cardiac diseases and for describing these CTI. However, factors such as accessibility, cost, and expertise are challenging. Hence, there is the need for an alternative diagnostic tool to measure CTI. This study aimed to investigate the use of a custom and commercially available device that simultaneously recorded both electrocardiogram (ECG) and phonocardiogram (PCG) to determine various CTI in healthy and dogs with degenerative mitral valve disease (DMVD). These measurements …
Correlation Of Cyp2d6 Polymorphisms And Pharmacokinetics Of Primaquine In Thai Army Population On The Thailand-Cambodia Border Area, Waritda Pookmanee
Correlation Of Cyp2d6 Polymorphisms And Pharmacokinetics Of Primaquine In Thai Army Population On The Thailand-Cambodia Border Area, Waritda Pookmanee
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The antimalarial drug primaquine (PQ), which has minimal activity, has to be metabolized through the CYP2D6 enzyme for its most effective antimalarial activity. The stable form 5,6-orthoquinone-primaquine (5,6-PQ) was used as a representative marker for PQ active metabolite quantification. However, the relationship between CYP2D6 polymorphisms and the pharmacokinetic (PK) parameters of 5,6-PQ has not been reported. We assessed the relationship between CYP2D6 polymorphisms and PKs of both PQ and 5,6-PQ in the Thai army population on the Thailand-Cambodia border area. We found that 56% of volunteers were CYP2D6 normal metabolizers (CYP2D6 NMs) and 44% were CYP2D6 intermediate metabolizers (CYP2D6 IMs). …

Characteristics And Factors Associated With The Menstrual Hygiene Practices Of Buddhist Nuns In North District, Yangon, Myanmar, Aye Cherry Aung
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
In Myanmar, menstrual hygiene is a subject receiving little attention. There are a few studies on menstrual hygiene of students, but none on menstrual hygiene of Buddhist nuns although there are 60,400 nuns, 0.1% of the total population, in need to practise menstrual hygiene. The study objective is to assess characteristics and factors associated with Buddhist nuns’ menstrual hygiene practices in North District, Yangon. A cross-sectional survey using a self-administered questionnaire constructed on Health Belief Model theory was conducted among 432 nuns in 11 urban and rural nunneries. Multistage, systematic, random sampling was used. Frequency and percentages were used to …
