The Efficiency Of Using Three-Dimensional Models To Teach Lifting And Rigging Concepts To Learners Of Varying Spatial Ability, Matthew Atherton
The Efficiency Of Using Three-Dimensional Models To Teach Lifting And Rigging Concepts To Learners Of Varying Spatial Ability, Matthew Atherton
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
In the literature on instructional media and its effects on learning, there is debate regarding whether a particular choice of media is essential for any given learning task. However, most studies that show conflicting results have not accounted for a differentiating learner characteristic known as spatial ability and its impact on the learner’s cognitive load when visualization is required. In this study, the interaction between instructional media and the learner’s spatial ability (specifically, their spatial visualization ability) was examined when the learner was required to work out a rigging problem in one of three ways: by manipulating a physical 3D …
Treatment Access For Dual Diagnosis Substance Use And Mental Health Disorders, Pedro Banuelos
Treatment Access For Dual Diagnosis Substance Use And Mental Health Disorders, Pedro Banuelos
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
In 2018, of 1.3 million Latinx adults in the United States facing concurrent issues with substance use disorders (SUD) and mental health disorders (MHD) 93% remained untreated for either diagnosis. This is concerning since Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) data reveals that this population is at greater risk for suicidal thoughts, plans, and attempts. They also face structural barriers such as employment, housing, legal involvement, and insurability that further impede access to treatment.
This study’s purpose was to examine barriers to accessing treatment for Latinx populations confronting co-occurring SUDs and MHDs. This study used a qualitative design …
Perceived Maternal Stress, Coping Strategies, And Suggested Interventions In Caring For Children With Both Medical Complexities And Developmental Delays, Lisa Poff
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
This qualitative study highlights caretaker stress and coping in mothers of children with complex medical needs in addition to developmental delays. Areas of stress were complex, affecting emotional health, careers, and even vacations. Burnout theory was utilized to address the increased stress levels in these mothers. However, this theory was supplemented with Stress and Coping theory after qualitative data analysis as there were other factors that allowed these mothers to persevere—in particular, a type of coping identified as “meaning-based coping,” where situations are positively re-appraised and ordinary events are imbued with positive meaning. The mothers expressed their desire for more …
Secondary Trauma And/Or Potential Impacts Related To Military Family Members, Andressa Young
Secondary Trauma And/Or Potential Impacts Related To Military Family Members, Andressa Young
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
Military members who have experienced combat deployments are at a greater risk for mental health issues. This can often affect the families who are placed in the role of being a buffer for these returning military members. Furthermore, the prevalence of mental health issues within the military community being at an all-time high has created a parallel prevalence for the family members who are impacted by these military members dealing with mental health issues. This research project examined data and information that was collected both from individual military family members and from persons who directly provide supportive services to military …

Unifying Is Medicine: Providing Holistic Treatments For Substance Use And Truama, Dulce Virginia Leguizamo, Erika Zemmol
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
The focus of this qualitative, exploratory research project will be holistic treatments for clients with trauma and substance use. The researchers hypothesize that some of the most effective treatments incorporate the five virtues of compassion, cultural sensitivity, community, competency, and client-centeredness. Another important element which these researchers have identified is honoring the mind-body-spirit connection in helping clients heal from trauma and substance use. These researchers conceptualize an effective treatment for clients with trauma and substance use as what we call The Medicine of Unifying. Incorporating the five virtues, we hypothesize that The Medicine of Unifying can be achieved by uniting …

This study sets out to contribute to the already existing data on ACEs as well as substance use in adulthood. In this quantitative descriptive study, the researchers addressed the relationship of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and adult substance use. Psychological, physical, and cognitive health issues may occur in adulthood due to ACEs (Shin et al., 2017).
