Addressing Rural Mental Health Crises: An Alternative To Police, Faith Ann Weatheral-Block
Addressing Rural Mental Health Crises: An Alternative To Police, Faith Ann Weatheral-Block
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
There has been an increase in contacts between law enforcement and people with mental illness since the start of deinstitutionalization in the 1960s. When law enforcement officers respond to crisis calls without the proper training, the likelihood of that interaction ending fatally is far greater. The purpose of this study is to determine mental health professionals' readiness to serve as an alternative to law enforcement in addressing mental health crises in rural areas. Using the nonprobability sampling methods of convenience and snowball, this exploratory qualitative study involved semi- structured interviews with 10 adult mental health professionals from various backgrounds in …
A Systematic Review On The Effectiveness Of The Gun Violence Restraining Order, Bonnie Galloway, Yasmeen Gonzalez-Ayala
A Systematic Review On The Effectiveness Of The Gun Violence Restraining Order, Bonnie Galloway, Yasmeen Gonzalez-Ayala
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
Background: Gun Violence Restraining Order (GVRO) is a type of restraining order that prevents individuals, who pose a significant risk to themselves or others from having, owning, and buying firearms, firearms parts, ammunition, or magazines. This gun law was enacted in January 2016, in response to the many mass shootings that had occurred prior to this legislation. Objective: This study systematically reviewed published articles to examine the effectiveness of GVRO. Methods: We used the following databases to identify articles: OneSearch, Google Scholar, and Google. The search terms used included “gun violence restraining orders” and its abbreviation “GVRO,” combined with other …

Aerosol Mutagenicity In San Bernardino, California Via Bacterial Fluctuation Tests, Sean Murphy
Aerosol Mutagenicity In San Bernardino, California Via Bacterial Fluctuation Tests, Sean Murphy
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
San Bernardino, California’s poor air quality is a health risk to its population with some of the highest concentrations of ozone and aerosol in the United States. Aerosols are solid or liquid particles suspended in the air. Smaller aerosol particles are the most harmful as they are more likely to penetrate further into the respiratory system. These aerosols can cause respiratory issues and contain toxic compounds. One measure of aerosol toxicity is to study the mutagenicity of the aerosol. To study the mutagenicity of aerosol samples collected in San Bernardino in 2022, fluctuation tests (based on the Ames test for …
Geospatial Wildfire Risk Prediction Using Deep Learning, Abner Alberto Benavides
Geospatial Wildfire Risk Prediction Using Deep Learning, Abner Alberto Benavides
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
This report introduces a thorough analysis of wildfire prediction using satellite imagery by applying deep learning techniques. To find wildfire-prone geographical data, we use U-Net, a convolutional neural network known for its effectiveness in biomedical image segmentation. The input to the model is the Sentinel-2 multispectral images to supply a complete view of the terrain features.
We evaluated the wildfire risk prediction model’s performance using several metrics. The model showed high accuracy, with a weighted average F1 score of 0.91 and an AUC-ROC score of 0.972. These results suggest that the model is exceptionally good at predicting the location of …
Reproductive Abuse And The Sterilization Of Women Of Color, Bshara Alsheikh
Reproductive Abuse And The Sterilization Of Women Of Color, Bshara Alsheikh
History in the Making
Women of color have long suffered targeted and systematic racial discrimination and attempts to control their populations by the state. Well after eugenic rhetoric and policies’ prime in the 1930s and 1940s, and the Civil Rights movements of the mid-century, Chicana, Black, and Indigenous women continued to be victimized by state-sanctioned eugenic policy. This paper examines the way that eugenic rhetoric and policy evolved from the first sterilization laws in the nation passed in California that targeted criminality to later legislation and rhetoric that explicitly targeted racial minorities.

Bridging The Gap Between Public Organizaions And Cybersecurity, Christopher Boutros
Bridging The Gap Between Public Organizaions And Cybersecurity, Christopher Boutros
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
Cyberattacks are a major problem for public organizations across the nation, and unfortunately for them, the frequency of these attacks is constantly growing. This project used a case study approach to explore the types of cybersecurity public organization agencies face and how those crimes can be mitigated. The goal of this paper is to understand how public organization agencies have prepared for cyberattacks and discuss additional suggestions to improve their current systems with the current research available This research provides an analysis of current cyber security systems, new technologies that can be implemented, roadblocks public agencies face before and during …
Human Suspicious Activity Detection, Nilamben Bhuva
Human Suspicious Activity Detection, Nilamben Bhuva
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
The detection of suspicious human activity is a crucial aspect of ensuring public safety and security. The aim is to identify suspicious behavior. To accomplish this, we employ the LRCN, a long-term recurrent convolutional network, to detect anomalous activity. It is important to consider the temporal data of the video when classifying suspicious behavior, and the framework uses a combination of CNNs and RNNs to analyze video frames and extract relevant features. The key milestones of this project include conducting research, collecting and pre-processing data, designing and training the model, and evaluating its performance. The resulting detection system can accurately …
