Coworker Support In A Sexual Harassment Climate: A Conservation Of Resources Perspective, Michelle Russen, Aysin Pasamehmetoglu, Priyanko Guchait, Michael J. Tews

Marketing Faculty Publications

Sexual harassment is still an issue in the hospitality industry, despite ample research on the topic. A sexual harassment climate – one that tolerates instances of unwanted sexual attention – produces negative impacts on employees’ well-being, job satisfaction, emotional exhaustion, and engagement, which may lead to increased turnover, absenteeism, and decreased productivity. The purpose of this research is to investigate the role of a sexual harassment climate in employees’ emotional exhaustion and employee engagement. Grounded in the conservation of resources theory, a moderated mediation analysis of a survey of 236 Turkish citizens who work in hotels confirmed that a sexual …

Defining And Establishing A Restaurant Wine Culture, D. Christopher Taylor, Michelle Russen, Mary Dawson, Dennis Reynolds

Marketing Faculty Publications

Purpose

Applying signaling theory to Schein’s organizational culture framework, this study aims to explain how restaurants communicate that their establishments value wine through multiple cultural attributes. Design/methodology/approach

A phenomenological research design was adopted to conduct three focus groups with 14 restaurateurs about wine culture. Conversational analysis with Straussian coding was used. Findings

A comprehensive definition of wine culture was provided, and five factors emerged that signal the presence of a wine culture. A wine presence includes a wine list, marketing efforts, community involvement and restaurant aesthetics. Employee traits are defined by individual attributes, communications skills and overall knowledge (training). Restaurant …

An Empirical Study To Understand The Role Of Institution-Based Trust And Its Antecedents In Iot Adoption By Individuals, Anupam Kumar Nath, Amit Kumar Nath

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

ABSTRACT

The Internet of Things (IoT) enables the connection between humans, physical objects, and cyber objects, resulting in monitoring, automation, and decision-making capabilities. This connection can be complex and lead to uncertainty for individuals before adopting IoT technology. To address this, we conducted research on the role of Institution-based trust in the context of IoT adoption. Our model for IoT adoption is based on existing literature and includes the components of Institution-based trust and its antecedents. Through empirical testing, we confirmed that Institution-based trust positively affects IoT adoption at the individual level. Additionally, we found that User confirmation/disconfirmation and familiarity …

Does Personality Traits And Security Habits Influence Security Of Personal Identification Numbers? The Context Of Mobile Money Services In Tanzania., Daniel Ntabagi Koloseni

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

Security is an important ingredient in financial transactions; as such, it is imperative that attention should be paid to enhancing the security habits and user behaviours of mobile payment services. Establishing a link between security habits, personality characteristics, and security behaviours provides a new dimension to studying security behaviours regarding mobile money services. Therefore, this study investigates how personality traits affect security behaviours and habits and how security habits mediate the link between personality traits and PIN security practices. The study found that conscientiousness, openness to experience, extroversion and security habits influence PIN security practices, while conscientiousness, agreeableness, and neuroticism …

Developing quality agile healthcare information systems requires understanding regulatory compliance and evolving healthcare needs through activities tailored within agile scrum roles. Agile scrum, a widely adopted philosophy, offers significant advantages in managing software development processes. This research explores how activities within the agile scrum roles are tailored to agile healthcare information systems development within the Nigerian context. This study adopted a qualitative case study methodology and interviewed 12 agile practitioners developing healthcare information systems within Nigeria using semi-structured open-ended interview guide questions. The practitioners were selected based on a snowballing process, a sunset of purposive sampling techniques from our network …

Explaining Variation In Adoption Of Organizational Innovation: A Social Network Approach, Pooria Assadi Jan 2024

Explaining Variation In Adoption Of Organizational Innovation: A Social Network Approach, Pooria Assadi

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

This article draws from the social network theory and examines how a social network approach can contribute to our understanding of the variation in the adoption of innovative, organization-wide information systems that can help businesses achieve sustainable competitive advantage. It highlights how the extant explanations for the adoption of information systems are limited in the way that they primarily assume organizations make innovation adoption decisions in isolation. It does so by building on growing research which recognizes that organizations are not isolated from one another; rather, they are interrelated through their inter-organizational networks which provide unique learning opportunities that are …

Competencies And Capabilities As Determinants Of Digital Entrepreneurship: An Empirical Validation, Arvind Gudi, Ravi Chinta, Alan Jin

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

This study aims to examine the influence of digital competencies and awareness of digital capabilities on digital entrepreneurial drive in the pre-startup stages of hi-tech businesses. Based on primary data from a sample of 357 respondents, we tested the hypothesized relationships for direct and interactive effects on digital entrepreneurial drive. Our results show that digital competencies and awareness of digital capabilities influence entrepreneurial aspiration and commitment in the pre-startup phase. We use the digital entrepreneurship framework by Recker and von Briel (2019) as the theoretical foundation and demonstrate a novel approach to expand the dimensions of digital enabler, digital outcome, …

Navigating Home Language Practice For Children With Disabilities: Insights From Korean-American Mothers' Online Communications, Jemma Kim, Young Suk Hwang, Yeon Kim, Sang Seok Nam

The Journal of Special Education Apprenticeship

This study explores the home language practice (HLP) of Korean-American mothers with children who have developmental disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder. Data was collected from an online forum where these mothers discussed their experiences and decision-making processes following their child's diagnosis. Thematic analysis was conducted on the collected data to identify and develop themes related to their experiences. The study's framework is based on family-centered practices, emphasizing the importance of equal partnerships, cultural responsiveness, and information sharing between families and early intervention and early childhood special education (EI/ECSE) professionals. Factors that influence HLP decisions include mothers' perceptions of disabilities, professional …

A Group Reading Intervention With Individualized Error Correction For Middle School Students With Reading Difficulties, Shengtian Wu, Kasee K. Stratton, Daniel L. Gadke Dec 2023

A Group Reading Intervention With Individualized Error Correction For Middle School Students With Reading Difficulties, Shengtian Wu, Kasee K. Stratton, Daniel L. Gadke

The Journal of Special Education Apprenticeship

Reading difficulties are common among middle school students in the US, especially among those with disabilities. Unfortunately, there is a significant shortage of professionals (e.g., special educators) who can provide high-quality reading interventions. Small group (SG) intervention is a group instruction that helps more students in need per intervention session and may mitigate the aforementioned shortage. SG intervention packages often include various intervention components that address skill and performance difficulties. However, SG reading intervention research has mostly focused on helping elementary school students without disabilities. Also, many SG reading interventions used one-size-fits all approach which restricted individualization of error correction …

Using Behavior Skills Training And A Group Contingency To Promote Mask-Wearing In An Early Childhood Special Education Classroom, Kaitlyn Smith, Hannah Macnaul, Marie Kirkpatrick Dec 2023

Using Behavior Skills Training And A Group Contingency To Promote Mask-Wearing In An Early Childhood Special Education Classroom, Kaitlyn Smith, Hannah Macnaul, Marie Kirkpatrick

The Journal of Special Education Apprenticeship

Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the resulting pandemic had widespread implications on the safety of the job tasks teachers are charged with each day. The Center for Disease Control (CDC, 2020) recommends people age 2 years and older should wear masks in public settings; however, for children with disabilities, wearing a mask may be difficult and as such, is not required. Special education teachers and students in particular are at high risk for exposure and contracting COVID-19. Therefore, behavior-analytic strategies that can teach and reinforce appropriate mask-wearing should be evaluated. Given the environment of schools at the time of the study, mask-wearing …

Biomarkers Of Objective Criteria For Subtle Cognitive Decline In Parkinson’S Disease, Mary Ellen Garcia Dec 2023

Biomarkers Of Objective Criteria For Subtle Cognitive Decline In Parkinson’S Disease, Mary Ellen Garcia

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations

Mild cognitive impairment in Parkinson’s disease (PD-MCI) is the continuum from normal cognitive function to dementia. Recent studies suggest that objectively defined subtle cognitive decline (Obj-SCD), which uses non-traditional “process” neuropsychological scores, may be a better pathway to earlier detection of cognitive impairment. Obj-SCD has been defined as the stage where cognition is not impaired, but biomarkers are present or cognitive impairment is minimal but not sufficient to meet MCI or dementia criteria. We examined the longitudinal trajectories of neurodegenerative markers among individuals who are classified as cognitive normal (CN), Obj-SCD, and PD-MCI. Past literature has been inconsistent about the …

Statistical Analysis Of Health Habits For Incoming College Students, Wendy Isamara Lizarraga Noriega Dec 2023

Statistical Analysis Of Health Habits For Incoming College Students, Wendy Isamara Lizarraga Noriega

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations

Health habits among college students are commonly overseen, especially for students transitioning from high school right into college. These students are becoming independent young adults, and learning how to adapt to a different scenery when it comes to their learning environment. As these young adults transition into college, this is the perfect time for the students to become more vulnerable and comfortable with their independence, and their weight begins to fluctuate. Many variables come into consideration when increasing weight as an incoming first-year student. Students are more likely to live alone, get a job, and rely on fast food and …

A Mixed Methods Design Exploring Factors And Experiences Of Ed.D. Graduates And Time To Degree, Brian Willess Dec 2023

A Mixed Methods Design Exploring Factors And Experiences Of Ed.D. Graduates And Time To Degree, Brian Willess

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations

In higher education, the extended time-to-degree of doctoral students creates a gap between those who graduate on time and those who do not. This delay is due to program structures, relationships, and dissertation writing. Academic success requires timely program completion and increases career opportunities for graduates. A long time to degree increases the risk of non-completion, especially during dissertations. Attrition, persistence, and dropping out have been studied, but why students graduate on time needs more examination. Most studies focus on Ph.D. students and programs with different requirements and time-to-degree, so new research must include Ed.D. students and examine doctoral graduates' …
