The Relationship Between Automation Threat And Employee Related Outcomes Using Support As A Buffer And Moderated By Transformational And Transactional Leadership, Monica Garcia
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
The introduction of automation in the workforce has negative effects that go beyond technological job displacement. The process of introducing automated systems creates stress in employees, which may relate to lower performance. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between automation threat and employee-related outcomes such as self-efficacy, means efficacy, and employability and how social support, organizational support, and instrumental support can help buffer against this type of threat. Furthermore, transformational and transactional leadership styles of the manager/supervisor were examined, as they related to the various types of support. Two hundred sixty-nine working adults completed the study …
R&B Song Lyrics As A Pedagogical Tool: Toward A Pedagogy For Twenty-First Century Multicultural Students, Shelly Jackson
R&B Song Lyrics As A Pedagogical Tool: Toward A Pedagogy For Twenty-First Century Multicultural Students, Shelly Jackson
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
This thesis posits that treating lyrics (particularly R&B lyrics) as texts in a literature analysis or first-year composition class is one-way teachers can integrate the works of marginalized writers into their lesson plans. That is, I assert that as higher education continues to take action toward academic equity and inclusion, current and future teachers must do so as well. I explain how examining and analyzing the different textual features of song lyrics can be used to illustrate different approaches to writing. This transformative pedagogical practice would foster a more inclusive and diverse classroom experience for minority students. When teachers consistently …
The Relationship Between Subtle Sexism And Women's Careers Explained By Cognitive Processes And Moderated By Attachment Styles, Patricia Carolina Rivera
The Relationship Between Subtle Sexism And Women's Careers Explained By Cognitive Processes And Moderated By Attachment Styles, Patricia Carolina Rivera
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
The present study investigated how experiences of subtle sexism related to women’s career outcomes. Prior research has focused on attitudes and impacts of subtle sexism, whereas this study focused on personal experiences of subtle sexism. Due to its normative nature, subtle sexism occurs often and can be difficult to classify as sexism. The study found that participants who encountered more subtle sexism reported lower levels of advancement perceptions and work engagement was indirectly impacted by subtle sexism. Interestingly, although it was expected that rumination would cause cognitive overload, participants in this study exhibited resilience which indirectly impacted their advancement perceptions. …

Dual Mechanisms Of Cognitive Control: An Eye Tracking Study, Kyle Mobly
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
The purpose of the present study was to attempt to provide an ocular signature for the dual mechanisms of cognitive control (proactivity and reactivity) by utilizing an eye tracker to record gaze patterns while participants were administered a modified version of the AX-CPT 40. Additionally, we sought to clarify whether context updating or maintenance was responsible for the higher Total Visit Duration (TVD) on the cue location during the ISI that was found in previous studies by providing both a short (1.5 seconds) and long (3 seconds) ISI length. This allowed us to disentangle context updating from maintenance by removing …
Teacher Demoralization: Neoliberal Influence On The Complex Education System And Teacher Morale, Dionne Elvira
Teacher Demoralization: Neoliberal Influence On The Complex Education System And Teacher Morale, Dionne Elvira
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
Since the 1980s, neoliberal influence has slowly taken over our education system’s vision and purpose. Presently, marketization in schooling has drawn the attention and influence of those of monetary and political power (Bartlett et al., 2002). Accountability measures set in place by the strings attached to school funding and sanctions encompass blanket demands on classroom instruction not equitably designed to support our diverse student populations (Ravitch, 2013; Reigeluth, 2014; Tsang, 2019). The school system, as it presently stands, is managed and maintained under systematic models that do not align to the complex needs of each unique school within its unique …
Biological Siblings: Can You Trust Them With Your Mate?, Elisha Barron
Biological Siblings: Can You Trust Them With Your Mate?, Elisha Barron
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
Recent studies suggest that genes may influence human mate preferences. What would this mean for same-sex siblings who share genes? Might they also share mate preferences and engage in mate poaching or would social norms and strong sibling bonds discourage such behaviors? We hypothesized that siblings would perceive their mate preferences to be more similar to their sibling’s than to an average person of their same gender. It was also hypothesized that the association between perceived sibling mate preferences and sibling mate poaching would be moderated by sibling closeness and sibling competition. Additionally, it was hypothesized that sibling mate competition …
Demographic Differences In The Perceived Invasion Of Privacy When Social Media Is Used In Personnel Selection, Zayna Osborne
Demographic Differences In The Perceived Invasion Of Privacy When Social Media Is Used In Personnel Selection, Zayna Osborne
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
The use of social media in personnel selection is a growing phenomenon amongst many organizations (Roth et al., 2016). However, different social media types, both personal and professional, arise when organizations use personal social media in personnel selection. The information present on personal social media platforms is often not relevant to the applicant's job qualifications. An important issue that arises when personal social media is used is the applicant's perceived invasion of privacy. There is very little literature that examines any demographic differences in the perceived invasion of privacy when social media is used in personnel selection. Understanding if there …
The Importance Of Recess In The Lives Of Children, Kayla L. Villanueva
The Importance Of Recess In The Lives Of Children, Kayla L. Villanueva
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
Current research suggests that when children get the chance to play outdoors, they reap the benefits. However, in today’s society children aren’t outdoors very often. Children also don’t have very much time to play outdoors during recess time while in a school setting. The purpose of this project was to educate and inform elementary school principals about the importance and benefits that recess has on children, as well as help them become an advocate for recess. A video was created that focused on the benefits of outdoor play for children, the importance of recess for children, as well as ways …

Faculty members of psychology were also surveyed regarding the guarantees and accommodations provided by their institutions and the effectiveness of those efforts. Principal findings were that the commitment to serve students with disabilities was high, however the existing plans …

Understanding Why Individuals Use Club Drugs At Raves And Electronic Dance Music Events: A Peer Cluster Theory Approach, Brandi N. Burns
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
Raves and Electronic Dance Music (EDM) events are part of a growing culture of entertainment for young people around the world. The dangers of these events include fatalities related to drug use, overheating, dehydration and lack of harm reduction services. This study explores drug use at rave events through a survey examining EDM attendee experiences. Using a binary logistic regression model, this investigation examines the relative importance of five factors: (1) peer group drug use and (2) peer influence on behavior, drawn from peer cluster theory, (3) presence of security features that may dissuade drug use controls for rational choices, …

The Ideological Scalpel: Physician Perpetrators, Medicalized Killing And The Nazi Biocracy, Matthew D. Fuller
The Ideological Scalpel: Physician Perpetrators, Medicalized Killing And The Nazi Biocracy, Matthew D. Fuller
History in the Making
With the conclusion of the Nuremburg Doctor’s trials in August 1947, the role of German physicians in the concentration camps of Europe became a widely discussed and researched topic in the historiography of the Holocaust. Like many other perpetrators indicted by the Allies following the Second World War, German physicians claimed to have been swept up in the mass indoctrination of the National Socialist movement and had ultimately become powerless cogs within the Nazi totalitarian regime. While this claim may be true in some cases, the historiography of German physicians-turned-killers reveals different sources of motivation which allowed doctors in the …

Project Operation Whitecoat: Military Experimentation, Seventh-Day Adventism And Conscientious Cooperation, Alicia Gutierrez
History in the Making
From 1954-1973, the U.S. Army established an unlikely alliance with the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church and their unequivocal support for a series of biomedical experiments called Project Operation Whitecoat (POW). In a letter dated October 19, 1954, Dr. T. R. Flaiz, Secretary of the Medical Department of the General Conference of SDAs wrote to then- Surgeon General Major George E. Armstrong, “the medical research project which you have under way… offers an excellent opportunity for these young men to render a service which will be of value not only to military medicine but to public health generally.”1 While the notion …

Bridges Digital Archive: Audio and Video Recordings
Pastor Anthony W. Green and Bishop Dr. Jackie Green discuss their long leadership in Second Baptist Church of Redlands. They both grew up in black dominated communities and experienced a culture shock when they came to Redlands, CA in 1983. They were disappointed to see the lack of black people in Redlands and wanted there to be black role models for their children in education and law enforcement. The Green’s were able to create a sense of community for Black people in Redlands through the Second Baptist church, where Anthony served as a pastor. Second Baptist was the first African …
