A Comparison Study Of Composite Laminated Plates With Holes Under Tension, Joun S. Kim Dec 2017

A Comparison Study Of Composite Laminated Plates With Holes Under Tension, Joun S. Kim

Master's Theses

A Comparison Study of Composite Laminated Plates with Holes under Tension

A study was conducted to quantify the accuracy of numerical approximations to deem sufficiency in validating structural composite design, thus minimizing, or even eliminating the need for experimental test. Error values for stress and strain were compared between Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and analytical (Classical Laminated Plate Theory), and FEA and experimental tensile test for two composite plate designs under tension: a cross-ply composite plate design of [(0/90)4]s, and a quasi-isotropic layup design of [02/+45/-45/902]s, each with a single, centered hole of 1/8” diameter, and 1/4" diameter (four sets …

Improving Companion Ai Behavior In Mimica, Daniel Toy Dec 2017

Improving Companion Ai Behavior In Mimica, Daniel Toy

Master's Theses

Companion characters are an important aspect of video games and appear in many different genres. Their role is typically to support the player as they progress through the game by helping to complete tasks or assisting in combat. However, oftentimes, these companion characters are limited in their ability to dynamically react to new situations and fail to properly assist the player.

In this paper, we present a solution by improving upon the MimicA framework, which allows companion characters to emulate the human player. The framework takes a learn by observation approach by storing the game state when the player performs …

Design And Analysis Of A Novel Multilevel Single Phase Interconnected H-Bridge Inverter, Danny Li Dec 2017

Design And Analysis Of A Novel Multilevel Single Phase Interconnected H-Bridge Inverter, Danny Li

Master's Theses

Inverters allow the use of residential solar power to run household appliances and electronics by converting DC to AC power just like the AC power from the grid. This study looks at the design and implementation of a novel multilevel inverter topology called a single phase interconnected H bridge inverter. By utilizing reduced switching complexity, the multilevel inverter can lower the cost of a typical inverter without sacrificing the power quality. The design is developed and analyzed through simulation and hardware testing to demonstrate a working model. Load testing is performed on the inverter output as well as analysis of …

A Case Study On The Compliance Of The Heavy Duty Diesel Vehicle Regulation, Kyle Potts

Construction Management

In December of 2008 the California Air Resource Board approved the On Road Heavy Duty Diesel Vehicle Regulation. The purpose of this new law is to reduce the emissions from existing on-road diesel vehicles operating throughout California. However, this new regulation is drastically affecting trucking companies throughout the state of California. Trucking companies across state lines are left with a few costly options to comply with the On Road Heavy Duty Diesel Vehicle Regulation. This case study focuses on two similar trucking companies and how they went about complying with the new regulation and which options have been most effective …

Case Study: Mitigating Schedule Impacts From Oshpd Regulations On Medical Equipment, Peter K. Lee

Construction Management

The vast majority of healthcare construction projects in the state of California work with OSHPD—Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development—to meet California’s Hospital Seismic Safety Law. While meeting the state’s Hospital Seismic Safety Law is important and even critical, working with OSHPD’s stringent regulations does imply additional concerns to be addressed by the project team. One concern regards the approval of bigger medical equipment and its impact on the overall construction schedule. This paper examines the factors that contribute to delays in the construction schedule, responsible parties for the delay, and responsibilities of each involved party. Based on an …

Method For Selecting Coupling And By-Pass Capacitors In Multi-Stage Linear Circuits, Vladimir I. Prodanov, Dale Dolan

Electrical Engineering

A method for selecting a set of coupling and by-pass capacitors is presented. The approach uses short-circuit time-constant analysis and for a given −3 dB cut-off frequency minimises the total capacitance used. This study offers a derivation of design formulas and shows their use via examples.
