This project-based senior project is an interdisciplinary collaboration between students from the College of Architecture and Environmental Design at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and a non-profit organization, Journeyman International. The goal of this collaborative effort is to build a coffee cooperative per the request of Empowering Villages, an organization with the mission of empowering rural parts of eastern Africa with socio-economic development solutions. The project will include a community center, restroom, warehouse, and welcome center. With the growing size of the Construction Industry, an increased knowledge and understanding of the business side of the operation is becoming more important. This study attempts to look at construction management student’s interest in adding more business topic courses into the CM curriculum and if adding more business topic courses will better prepare students for industry. Students were asked to answer six questions -five survey and one free response. These questions were designed to provide quantitative and qualitative data that would allow for an increased understanding of student interest in regards to business.

The use of three-dimensional (3D) printing is not yet prevalent throughout the construction industry. Although there have been some uses, each has been small and relatively experimental, however, a current renovation project to the Mexican Museum in downtown San Francisco utilized 3D printing to aid in design coordination. The decision came after the General Contractor, Webcor Builders, noticed a possible constraint in pouring a section of the foundation; a pair of nine-foot vertical concrete walls surrounding the elevator shaft. Protection Against Ungrounded Single Phase Open Circuit Faults In 3-Phase Distribution Transformers, Higinio Ariel Montoya

This thesis explores the impacts and behavior of 3-phase distribution transformers when subject to ungrounded single phase open circuit faults. A simple 3-phase system is modeled using MATLAB Simulink and operation under fault conditions are simulated and studied. Simulation results are confirmed via lab experimentation. Finally, a robust detection and protection method using neutral current injection (as proposed in industry literature) is built and demonstrated.

Electric utility operating experience has demonstrated that all too often, loads on 3-phase distribution transformers are not adequately protected against an ungrounded single phase open circuit fault (commonly called “single phasing”). This type of fault …
