Analyzing Internships In Construction Management Based On Student/Industry Interest And Experience, Jared C. Gormley

Construction Management

The goal of this research paper is to analyze feedback from both student interns, and the industry on whether there is a disconnect between what each group feels makes an internship beneficial or not. Research was done evaluating current Construction Management students with internship experience at Cal Poly, while also evaluating companies that have internship programs. This paper will provide student interns with insight from industry members regarding internship programs, and it will provide companies with insight from students regarding their experiences within internship programs. Two surveys were sent out, one to all Construction Management Students at Cal Poly, and …

The Church Works Website Prototype, Daniel R. Cragoe

Graphic Communication

For my Senior Project, I developed a highfidelity prototype website layout for a nonprofit organization called The Church Works. The prototype includes outlining a site map, creating wireframes for each page, and designing a logo for the organization. The primary function for the website itself is to generate awareness for the Church Works, promote the organization’s upcoming events and volunteer opportunities, and invite donations from members and supporters of the organization.

A Local Baseline Of The Black Hole Mass Scaling Relations For Active Galaxies. Iv. Correlations Between MBh And Host Galaxy Σ, Stellar Mass, And Luminosity, Vardha N. Bennert, Tommaso Treu, Xuheng Ding, Isak Stomberg, Simon Birrer, Tomas Snyder, Matthew A. Malkan, Andrew W. Stephens, Matthew W. Auger

Physics

The tight correlations between the mass of supermassive black holes (MBH) and their host-galaxy properties have been of great interest to the astrophysical community, but a clear understanding of their origin and fundamental drivers still eludes us. The local relations for active galaxies are interesting in their own right and form the foundation for any evolutionary study over cosmic time. We present Hubble Space Telescope optical imaging of a sample of 66 local active galactic nuclei (AGNs); for 14 objects, we also obtained Gemini near-infrared images. We use state-of-the-art methods to perform surface photometry of the AGN host …

Animal Morality: Control Without Reflective Self-Awareness, Sabina M. Schrynemakers Oct 2021

Animal Morality: Control Without Reflective Self-Awareness, Sabina M. Schrynemakers

Between the Species

Non-human animals can act morally by acting on the basis of moral emotions such as concern without being morally responsible in the sense of deserving praise or blame. They can unconsciously select from different motivations and so have the requisite control over their behavior for moral normativity yet lack awareness of their reasons as reasons and so lack the self-reflection and understanding required for full moral responsibility. This is an alternative to Mark Rowlands’ compatibilist construal of non-human animals as moral subjects.

Considerations Of Diversity, Equity, And Inclusion In Advanced Structural Engineering Courses, Claire Leader, Faith Sharp, Anahid Behrouzi

Architectural Engineering

This paper presents various techniques investigated by the authors to bring discussion of societal impact into two advanced structural engineering courses taught at Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo within the Architectural Engineering (ARCE) department during the 2020-21 academic year. The first was an undergraduate reinforced concrete design lecture/lab class where the instructor was able to convey the stories of the individuals and events that influence the ACI 318 code and ASTM standards used for concrete design. The second was a graduate nonlinear structural behavior lecture class that involves a weekly seminar by guest speakers who presented case studies with …

The Role Of Digital Transformation And Specification Data Management In Streamlining Supply Chains, Daniel Klemm Sep 2021

The Role Of Digital Transformation And Specification Data Management In Streamlining Supply Chains, Daniel Klemm

Master's Theses

The packaging and product supply chain is currently undergoing a digital transformation that changes the way organizations manage data. Cloud-based software is an emerging technological innovation entirely focused on harnessing the power of packaging/product specifications to create efficiencies. These applications coordinate the data that millions of SKUs worldwide are generating into a harmonized system that will not only organize the SKUs but also create valuable information that will allow stakeholders to make decisions based upon data-driven insights.

Specifications are the DNA-level information of packaging and products. Items such as the bill of materials, technical drawings, and inventory are stored together …

Bioplastics In The Consumer Market, Elena Strom Sep 2021

Bioplastics In The Consumer Market, Elena Strom

Master of Science in Environmental Sciences and Management Projects

The global production and mismanagement of plastic has led to plastics deposited and scatted across marine environments. Conventional plastic, which most Americans encounter every day, is produced from fossil fuels and lacks the ability to fully break down upon disposal, breaking down into microplastics that can remain in the natural environment for hundreds of years. Moving away from petroleum-based plastics could lead to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and decrease plastic particles in the ocean. Based on existing literature, there are three biopolymers that could serve as replacements to conventional plastics in the marketplace. These biopolymers are seen as …

Nopal En La Frente: Racial Passing And The Hidden Indigeneity Of The Los Altos Region Of Jalisco, 1720-1950, Brandon Manuel Márquez Sep 2021

Nopal En La Frente: Racial Passing And The Hidden Indigeneity Of The Los Altos Region Of Jalisco, 1720-1950, Brandon Manuel Márquez

History

When people look at Los Altos de Jalisco, they typically think of this area as representing a pocket of European ancestry in a mestizaje state. Yet this ignores one huge aspect of this region: its indigenous history. Throughout the last three hundred years, the Los Altos region of Jalisco has allowed for the racial passing of many different families. This is all the more significant because many of its citizens have what many believe to be European features- mainly being light hair, light skin, and colored eyes. Because of these perceived European features, many of the Alteños believe that they …

Dsp Guitar Fx Pedal, Stephen P. Rock Sep 2021

Dsp Guitar Fx Pedal, Stephen P. Rock

Electrical Engineering

A guitar effects (FX) pedal, also referred to as a stomp box, manipulates the electric signal produced by guitars to produce a variety of different sounds for the application of music. Musicians use guitar effects to produce sonically different and interesting sounds for the sake of performance, creation, and art. Although the different types of effects are numerous, the basic effects fall into either distortion, modulation, or delay. The use of guitar pedals allows the musician to accurately perform desired pieces of music or compose new songs.

The current guitar pedal market includes many effects by many manufacturers, however many …
