Spray Drift Reduction With Shrouded Boom Sprayers, Ronald J. Fehringer, Richard Cavaletto
Spray Drift Reduction With Shrouded Boom Sprayers, Ronald J. Fehringer, Richard Cavaletto
BioResource and Agricultural Engineering
Downwind drift was measured from a standard boom sprayer and a shrouded boom sprayer. Using 8002 flat fan nozzles, the hooded sprayer provided a 180 to 275% reduction in drift. The effectiveness of the shroud is dependent upon the spray droplet spectrum.

Synergy Of Artificial Neural Networks And Knowledge-Based Expert Systems For Intelligent Fms Scheduling, Luis Carlos Rabelo, Sema E. Alptekin, Ali S. Kiran
Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering
In this paper we describe a hybrid architecture that integrates artificial neural networks and knowledge-based expert systems to generate solutions for the real time scheduling of flexible manufacturing systems. The artificial neural networks perform pattern recognition and, due to their inherent characteristics, support the implementation of automated knowledge acquisition and refinement schemes through a feedback mechanism. The artificial neural network structures enable the system to recognize patterns in the tasks to be solved in order to select the best scheduling rule according to different demands. The knowledge-based expert systems are the higher order elements which drive the inference strategy and …

Sustainable Balance Of Trade Deficits, Eric O'N. Fisher
Sustainable Balance Of Trade Deficits, Eric O'N. Fisher
Economics
This paper analyzes a model of overlapping generations in which there are two currencies. There are two agents born in each period, and these agents have completely heterogeneous preferences and endowments. The paper shows that there are monetary equilibria in which one country can sustain a trade deficit whose present value is arbitrarily close to that of its trading partner's entire stream of resources. Hence, there may be no limit to the present value of a country's trade deficit, even if the equilibrium for the world economy satisfies an intertemporal efficiency criterion.

Intercellular Structure In A Many-Celled Magnetotactic Prokaryote, Frank G. Rodgers, Richard P. Blakemore, Nancy A. Blakemore, Richard B. Frankel, Dennis A. Bazylinski, Denise Maratea, Christine Rodgers
Physics
A many-called magnetotactic prokaryote obtained from brackish water was observed to possess intercellular connections at points of contact between the outer membranes of constituent cells. Each aggregate organism consisted of 10 to 30 individual Gram-negative cells containing material with the appearance of poly-β-hydroxybutyrate and magnetosomes of unusual arrangement, structure and composition. The aggregate, which possessed prokaryotic-type flagella arranged at the outwards surfaces of each cell, showed motility indicative of co-ordination between individual component cells. These results suggest that this organism could be a multicellular prokaryote.

Lifted P-Adic Homology With Compact Supports Of The Weierstrass Family And Its Zeta Endomorphism, Goro Kato
Lifted P-Adic Homology With Compact Supports Of The Weierstrass Family And Its Zeta Endomorphism, Goro Kato
Mathematics
The relations among the generators for the lifted p-adic homology with compact supports of the various subfamilies of the Weierstrass family in characteristic p > 0 (p ≠ 2, 3) are explicitly given in Section 2. Then, the universal coefficient spectral sequence and the zeta endomorphism in Section 3 enable one to compute explicitly the lifted p-adic homology with compact supports of all fibres, including all the elliptic curves and all their singular degenerations in the family.
