Mossbauer Spectroscopy Of Fe2+ Binding To Apo And Holo Mammalian Ferritin, Richard B. Frankel, Gerald D. Watt, Georgia C. Papaefthymiou
Physics
The anaerobic binding of Fe2+ to apo and holo Mammalian ferritin has been studied in the pH range from 6.0 to 10.0. Mossbauer spectroscopy of samples in which the added Fe 2+ is enriched in Fe-57 shows that the Fe2+ ions bind to the ferritin core and exchange electrons with Fe3+ ions in the core.
An Empirical Comparison Of Direct Product Profit And Existing Measures Of Sku Productivity, Norm Borin, Paul Farris
An Empirical Comparison Of Direct Product Profit And Existing Measures Of Sku Productivity, Norm Borin, Paul Farris
Marketing
DPP (direct product profitability) has been heralded as one of the more important advances in supermarket shelf management, yet its acceptance by managers in the industry has been slow. Not only is DPP complex and expensive to calculate, but some question exists about whether decisions based on DPP are different from those based on traditional criteria such as gross margin and movement. A data base of nine dry-grocery categories is used here to compare DPP with other SKU indices. DPP is shown to lead to significantly different rankings in some categories, but not all. A Merchandising Attractiveness Index (MAl) is …

Real-Time, In-Situ Measurement Of Film Thickness And Uniformity During Plasma Ashing Of Photoresist, Richard N. Savage, Horace Simmons, John T. Davies, Thomas Metz
Real-Time, In-Situ Measurement Of Film Thickness And Uniformity During Plasma Ashing Of Photoresist, Richard N. Savage, Horace Simmons, John T. Davies, Thomas Metz
Materials Engineering
This paper will discuss the performance of equipment which monitors and so controls photoresist thickness and uniformity during plasma ashing without interfering with the process. Practical monitoring of a subtractive process of this type is significantly more complex than monitoring deposition processes. An initial absolute thickness measurement is needed. In addition the device must view the layer through a luminous medium and cannot rely on simple optical interference fringe counting. The equipment is self-calibrating and sensitive to layers dnm thick. An application to partial plasma resist ashing in high uniformity equipment will be described. Application to other films (e. g. …

Spatial And Temporal Continuity Of Kangaroo Rat Populations Shown By Sequencing Mitochondrial Dna From Museum Specimens, W. Kelley Thomas, Svante Pääbo, Francis X. Villablanca, Allan C. Wilson
Biological Sciences
The advent of direct sequencing via the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) has opened up the possibility of molecular studies on museum specimens. Here we analyze genetic variation in populations over time by applying PCR to DNA extracted from museum specimens sampled from populations of one species over the last 78 years. Included in this study were 43 museum specimens of the Panamint kangaroo ratDipodomys panamintinus from localities representing each of three geographically distinct subspecies. These specimens were originally collected and prepared as dried skins in 1911, 1917, or 1937. For each specimen, a 225-bp segment of the mitochondrial genome …
Magnetic Polarity Fractions In Magnetotactic Bacterial Populations Near The Geomagnetic Equator, F. F. Torres De Araujo, F. A. Germano, L. L. Goncalves, M. A. Pires, Richard B. Frankel
Magnetic Polarity Fractions In Magnetotactic Bacterial Populations Near The Geomagnetic Equator, F. F. Torres De Araujo, F. A. Germano, L. L. Goncalves, M. A. Pires, Richard B. Frankel
Physics
The relative numbers of North-seeking and South-seeking polarity types in natural populations of magnetotactic bacteria were determined at sites on the coast of Brazil. These sites were South of the geomagnetic equator and had upward geomagnetic inclinations of 1–12°. For upward inclinations >6°, South-seeking cells predominated over North-seeking cells by more than a factor of 10. For upward inclinations
