Kinomatic is a startup company that provides custom preoperative surgical plans for orthopedic surgeons. The surgical plans are intended for total hip and knee arthroplasty to provide patient-specific measurements and implant sizing. Surgeons can view the surgical plans as 3D models in virtual reality with an Oculus Quest 2 headset or as a PDF summary. Most patients receive a diagnostic anterior-posterior (AP) x-ray that allows their surgeon to determine if they are eligible for a total hip or knee replacement. This study investigates the comprehensibility and accessibility of scientific papers compared to scientific journalism articles. Fifty articles were tested in pairs of two (one scientific journal article and one corresponding scientific journalism article), and ChatGPT 4.0 was used to create a comprehensibility scale ranging from 0-100%, designed to assess the percentage of people in California over the age of 18 who could understand each article. Each article was evaluated three times using the curated scale, and the results were thoroughly evaluated. The purpose of this study is to develop a processing method to reduce the porosity of toroidal inductors, whose cores are composed of soft magnetic composites (SMCs) with 65 vol.%, 75 vol.%, and 85 vol.% iron nitride (γ′-Fe4N) and to validate the results with a COMSOLTM model. Using hot-pressing as the main process of manufacture, fourteen samples were fabricated and eight were wound with Litz wire. Bifacial photovoltaic (bPV) cells have higher solar efficiency than monofacial photovoltaic (mPV) cells due to having two sides of active layers. bPV cells also require less space to produce equivalent electricity, which is useful for solar farms that want to maximize energy output per unit area. Placing a sheet of highly reflective material on the surface beneath bPV cells further increases their efficiency due to increasing the amount of solar radiation that reaches the underside of the bPV cells. It is the process in which nurses and other healthcare professionals prescribe and distribute medication to the patients. It aids in organizing which patient got prescribed which medication from which doctor and provides records on who was given care by who. Carlton Forge Works (CFW) is evaluating the retirement of its hammer units in favor of hydraulic presses to address safety concerns in forging aerospace components. This paper investigates the metallurgical implications of this transition, emphasizing the importance of superior microstructures and meeting industry standards and customer requirements. The alloys in question are Titanium-6Al-4V (Ti64) and Inconel 718 (INCO 718), which comprise a majority of CFW’s production. Ti64's high specific strength and thermal stability make it ideal for aerospace applications, while INCO 718 is recognized for superior high-temperature creep performance. The author sat with current and retired faculty to curate a written history based on oral interviews which investigated the development of the 5-acre garden across fifty years of volunteer work, student employees, class projects, and senior projects. This report describes in detail the manufacturing, assembly, and testing of our hose clamp. We start with a review of the changes we have made to our design since our last report, namely a new automatic latching system, and continue with our manufacturing and assembly processes. This senior project delves into a comprehensive calculation of carbon emissions for both efficiency and sustainability within the realm of modular construction. A material takeoff of the building was performed, allowing for an accurate measurement of materials and their respective EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) values. After material selection, a final carbon calculation of the building was calculated. Carbon emission calculations were performed on the current Revit Model allowing for a full-scale analysis, from Cradle to Gate, of the offsite residential unit. The construction industry significantly contributes to environmental waste, notably through the extensive use of plastic water bottles for hydrating field personnel. This case study investigates the hydration practices of a midsize construction company in the Bay Area, focusing on the volume of plastic waste generated and potential sustainable alternatives. Data were collected via surveys sent to 15 employees, revealing that approximately 130,416 plastic bottles are used annually across 11 project sites. This study evaluates the performance, cost-effectiveness, and constructability of two different truss systems by constructing identically sized mockup models. The comparison focuses on the top chord POSI-Strut Metal Web System and the bottom chord truss system, both utilizing Boise Cascade LVL engineered lumber. Our findings reveal that the top chord POSI structure truss system is more cost-effective and time-efficient compared to the bottom chord truss system.
