Cal Poly Frankenreads: An All-Day Public Reading Of Mary Shelly’S Frankenstein, Robert E. Kennedy Library

Celebrating the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein, the Cal Poly English Department and Kennedy Library organized a series of interdisciplinary events including FrankenReads, an all-day public reading of the novel. Spanning twelve hours, members of the Cal Poly community from all colleges participated in the celebration by volunteering to read portions of Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus.

This catalog is based on the celebration of events “FrankenFall” which took place on October 31, 2018 at the Robert E. Kennedy Library.

The architecture program at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, California, has a strong technology component (as part of the Polytechnic Mission of the University) over the years since its inception in the 1960’s, that led to the establishment of the College of Architecture andEnvironmental Design. The paper presents an advanced structural integration collaboratory model that works with recent changes in the curriculum. The driving factor behind this project is my interest in how public art can drastically improve areas with somewhat little tangible change. With the implementation of a few key pieces, an area can gain recognition, triangulation, and life. Almost two thirds of the Earth's surface is covered in ocean, and yet, only about 5% of it is mapped. There are an unknown amount of sunken ships, planes, and other artifacts hidden below the sea. Extensive search via boat and a sonar tow fish following a standard lawnmower pattern is used to identify sites of interest. Then, if a site has been determined to potentially be historically significant, the most common next step is a survey by either a human dive team or remotely operated vehicle. The purpose of this study was to examine the structure of the event process on Cal Poly’s campus. An intrinsic case study method was used, and data were collected and analyzed using triangulation from three sources of information: documents, interviews, and participation research. Overall, the structure of the event management process on campus was found to be stable, but could use improvement. Cal Poly should consider establishing a specific, designated organization that would help centralize the event management process at Cal Poly. Attendance in the performing arts has been on the decline, which threatens the cultural richness of communities across the country. Emma Puryear’s Museum of the Natural World seeks to create a familiar project, both aesthetically and content-wise, that reconnects residents with the natural world. Located between the East and West Villages, it will be a place for everyone in the community as a cultural center that seeks to promote responsible environmentalism. This internship and project report includes documentation required in meeting the quality criteria for secondary-level programs of instruction in agriculture.
