Materials Engineering
We have developed a laboratory module focusing on the subject of corrosion. The module itself is designed to be completed in one three-hour session. It consists of three parts: I. The Impact of Corrosion Media, II. The Impact of Corroding Materials, III. The Impact of Anode/Cathode Sizes. Our objectives in developing this module were to address the need for clear bridges between math, science and technology in the engineering curriculum and to provide a means of faculty development primarily at community colleges. As a result, it was designed to allow the engineering student to experience the synergy of science, math …

Plasma Deposition Of Spin Chucks To Reduce Contamination Of Silicon Wafers, Richard N. Savage, Emir Gurer, Ed C. Lee
Plasma Deposition Of Spin Chucks To Reduce Contamination Of Silicon Wafers, Richard N. Savage, Emir Gurer, Ed C. Lee
Materials Engineering
An apparatus for delivering a fluidic media to a wafer includes a housing defining a process chamber. A fluidic media delivery member is coupled to the process chamber. A rotatable chuck is positioned in the process chamber. The rotatable chuck has a wafer support surface coated with a coating material. A vacuum supply line is coupled to the rotatable chuck.

Proceedings Of The 2001 Onr Decision-Support Workshop Series: Continuing The Revolution In Military Affairs, Collaborative Agent Design Research Center
Collaborative Agent Design (CAD) Research Center
In August of 1998 the Collaborative Agent Design Research Center (CADRC) of the California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly), approached the Office of Naval Research (ONR) with the proposal for an annual workshop focusing on emerging concepts in decision-support systems for military applications. The proposal was considered timely by the ONR Logistics Program Office for at least two reasons. First, rapid advances in information systems technology over the past decade had produced distributed, collaborative computer-assistance capabilities with profound potential for providing meaningful support to military decision makers. Indeed, some systems based on these new capabilities such …

Ultrasonic Assessment Of Stabilized Soils, Nazli Yesiller, James L. Hanson, Mumtaz A. Usmen
Ultrasonic Assessment Of Stabilized Soils, Nazli Yesiller, James L. Hanson, Mumtaz A. Usmen
Civil and Environmental Engineering
The feasibility of using ultrasonic testing, in particular P-wave velocities, to evaluate stabilized soils was investigated. A high-plasticity clay soil that was stabilized with lime, cement, and lime - fly ash mixtures was used in the study. The testing program consisted of determination of P-wave velocities and compression characteristics of the stabilized soils immediately after compaction and subsequent to 7 days and 28 days of curing. Variation of velocity with stabilizing agent, curing time, and also with the compression characteristics of the soils was investigated. It was observed that P-wave velocities were higher for samples stabilized with cement compared with …

'Standing Porter At The Door Of Thought': The Social Order Of The Christian Science Church, Douglas J. Swanson
'Standing Porter At The Door Of Thought': The Social Order Of The Christian Science Church, Douglas J. Swanson
Journalism
The Church of Christ, Scientist, is a unique organization to study in the context of institutional social order. The church is a 21st century religious movement that is bound to an unchangeable theology and intractable management structure developed by its 19th century founder. The church is a worldly business entity whose leadership manipulates assets, personnel, media and information while striving for "rectitude and spiritual understanding" (Eddy, 1906, p. 403). Christian Science is a way of life which systemizes the personality of its charismatic founder while denying the reality of all things physical and personal. Examining the seemingly contradictory social order …
