San Juan Bautista General Plan Update: Background Report, Fall 2014, Crp 552/ 554 Community And Regional Planning Studio
City and Regional Planning Studios and Projects
This Background Report is an integral part of the San Juan Bautista 2035 General Plan. Its purpose is to provide the public, the City’s decision-makers, and other agencies with detailed information about San Juan Bautista using current conditions and community input. In this way, the Background Report provides the informational basis on which the goals, policies, and programs of the San Juan Bautista General Plan are in part based. While the General Plan itself represents the official adopted goals and policies of the City, this Background Report provides only information, including the plans and programs of other agencies.

Connecting Cayucos: Visions And Actions For Public Space, Spring 2014, Crp 553 Project Planning Lab
City and Regional Planning Studios and Projects
This document expands upon the principles set forth in the County of San Luis Obispo’s Estero Plan (2009) in the context of public space and develops site-specific recommendations to support future implementation of public space plans for Cayucos, California. This plan includes an existing conditions analysis, general goals and principles, site-specific visions and actions, as well as supporting conceptual diagrams. The main purpose of this plan is to reflect the community’s desire to preserve, protect, and enhance the public spaces of Cayucos.

Urban Design Visions For Milpitas, Fall 2013, Crp 341 Urban Design Studio
City and Regional Planning Studios and Projects
An undergraduate class from the City and Regional Planning Department at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo was charged by the City of Milpitas Planning and Neighborhood Services Department to develop pre-planning insights, vision and urban design concepts for two strategically ocated sites in Milpitas, California Circle, and, the area around Main Street at the Serra Way intersection. This report represents a compilation of the work completed by the students in CRP 341 Urban Design Studio III during the 10-week period of Fall Quarter September-December, 2013. Instructors Vicente del Rio and Hemalata Dandekar, supported by Teaching Assistant Evan Evangelopoulos, guided the …

Teacher Internship Report - Anderson Union High School, Kathryn L. Teixeira
Agricultural Education: Graduate Internship Reports
This internship/project report includes validation documents required in meeting the quality criteria for secondary-level programs of instruction in agriculture. The documents are concurrently used for the Agriculture Incentive Grant review process at Anderson Union High School conducted by representatives of the California Department of Education. The internship included the practical application of occupational skills related to the horticulture industry and modification to the Greenhouse facilities at Anderson Union High School by improving ergonomics of greenhouse tables, replacing the existing siding of storage facilities and installing concrete walkways within the greenhouse. Students in the Agricultural Department were integral in all parts …
Engine Control Unit Tuning Module Test System, Efren Alonzo Cabebe Jr.
Engine Control Unit Tuning Module Test System, Efren Alonzo Cabebe Jr.
Computer Engineering
A test system has been developed to provide quality assurance and functional testing for soon-to-be mass produced engine tuning modules. The system is comprised of two halves: the front-end graphical user interface and back-end microcontroller platform. The use of the interface is intuitive in starting tests and reporting the status of completed tests. The back-end microcontroller platform performs the physical tests. Two high precision analog-to-digital converters and two digital-to-analog converters provide the inputs to and receive the outputs from the module, with another pulse-width-modulated pin tied to the tachometer input. Alongside the test system infrastructure, a simple suite of tests …

A Strategy For Integrating Essential Three-Dimensional Microphysiological Systems Of Human Organs For Realistic Anticancer Drug Screening, Christopher Heylman, Agua Sobrino, Venktesh S. Shirure, Christopher Cw Hughes, Steven C. George
Biomedical Engineering
Cancer is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality around the world. Despite some success, traditional anticancer drugs developed to reduce tumor growth face important limitations primarily due to undesirable bone marrow and cardiovascular toxicity. Many drugs fail in clinical development after showing promise in preclinical trials, suggesting that the available in vitro and animal models are poor predictors of drug efficacy and toxicity in humans. Thus, novel models that more accurately mimic the biology of human organs are necessary for high-throughput drug screening. Three-dimensional (3D) microphysiological systems can utilize induced pluripotent stem cell technology, tissue engineering, and …
Modeling And Experimental Methods To Predict Oxygen Distribution In Bone Defects Following Cell Transplantation, Christopher M. Heylman, Sharon Santoso, Melissa D. Krebs, Gerald M. Saidel, Eben Alsberg, George F. Muschler
Modeling And Experimental Methods To Predict Oxygen Distribution In Bone Defects Following Cell Transplantation, Christopher M. Heylman, Sharon Santoso, Melissa D. Krebs, Gerald M. Saidel, Eben Alsberg, George F. Muschler
Biomedical Engineering
We have developed a mathematical model that allows simulation of oxygen distribution in a bone defect as a tool to explore the likely effects of local changes in cell concentration, defect size or geometry, local oxygen delivery with oxygen-generating biomaterials (OGBs), and changes in the rate of oxygen consumption by cells within a defect. Experimental data for the oxygen release rate from an OGB and the oxygen consumption rate of a transplanted cell population are incorporated into the model. With these data, model simulations allow prediction of spatiotemporal oxygen concentration within a given defect and the sensitivity of oxygen tension …

Kinesiology and Public Health
Twenty-four senior-level capstone engineering design projects were completed at a large, public, primarily undergraduate university involving 85 students (70 male and 15 female). All projects involved the design of equipment to facilitate physical activity for people with disabilities. The effects on: i) learning design, ii) attitude towards people with disabilities, iii) motivation to complete team design projects and iv) interdisciplinary collaboration were analyzed through 24 one-hour focus groups. We explored the student experience using a constructivist approach and grounded theory. Four major themes (with associated sub-themes) emerged from our data analysis: learning design (project management, iterative design process, and user-centered …
