Peer Collaborative Networks In Undergraduate Computing Classrooms, Noah T. Ravetch Dec 2024

Peer Collaborative Networks In Undergraduate Computing Classrooms, Noah T. Ravetch

Master's Theses

Peers are an invaluable resource for students at undergraduate universities. Many factors can impact how students form connections, some of which are tied to the students’ identities. While social networks have been studied in the context of universities, little research has been done specifically about peer collaboration and even less in the context of computer science classes. Our research aims to gain an understanding of how peer networks form in computing classes and the effect of being involved in one on students’ academic performances. We collected survey data (n = 139) about students’ peer collaborative behaviors in computer science classes. …

Bonsai Merkle Tree Streams: Bulk Memory Verification Unit For Trusted Program Verification System, Richard J. Rios

Master's Theses

Today, all modern computing systems are undoubtedly vulnerable to numerous types of attacks that could be targeted toward any layer of the system from dedicated hardware to highly abstracted software. Unfortunately, many devices and systems naturally contain inadequately protected components or software modules that un- dermine their security as a whole. Additionally, security is heavily variable system to system, and has a huge dependence on adequate implementation and ongoing support from device and software manufacturers. To address these various security issues in a very general way, TrustGuard, a containment security system utilizing an external device called the Sentry that would …

Joseph Moxon: Fueled By Science, Extinguished By Class. How A Forgotten Middle-Classed Early Modern English Puritan Printer Mathematician And Globe-Maker Helped Forge The Scientific Revolution And Democratize Knowledge Among The Trades, Kenneth L. Macro Jr.

Master's Theses

Joseph Moxon, raised within the trades, elevated into the middle-class, was an inducted Fellow of the Royal Society, Hydrographer to the King’s Most Excellent Majesty, Printer, Author, Translator, Maker of Globes and of Spheres, Maker of Maps and of Mathematical Instruments, Engraver, and Entrepreneur. Moxon was the quintessential Renaissance Man. A tradesman living in a time of great scientific intrigue and discovery, Moxon, acknowledged by few mid-seventeenth century historians, rightfully contributed his scientific discoveries—in the forms of tutorials and manuals written for the common man—as a testimony to all printers who have helped in the progression of the Scientific Revolution. …

The Use Of Augmented Reality (Ar) Technology In Construction, Luke Zamlich

Construction Management

Building Information Modeling (BIM) has revolutionized construction by replacing traditional paper-based methods with advanced software, improving data management and project workflows. However, as projects become more complex, challenges like communication gaps and design errors persist, often leading to cost overruns. Augmented Reality (AR) is an emerging technology that could address some of these issues by enhancing real-time visualization and collaboration, helping avoid costly rework. Despite its potential, AR remains underutilized in the construction industry. This paper explores the feasibility of integrating AR into modern construction workflows to complement BIM models and improve on-site project management. A literature review highlights AR’s …

The Abusive Relationship Between The Humanities And Universities: How Feminist Pedagogy Can Heal Humanist Work In The Public Forum, Danielle Morse Nov 2024

The Abusive Relationship Between The Humanities And Universities: How Feminist Pedagogy Can Heal Humanist Work In The Public Forum, Danielle Morse

Feminist Pedagogy

This critical commentary considers in what ways as well as where humanists and feminist pedagogues can professionally exist when facing ideological and existential threats to higher education institutions. The passage of Florida’s SB 266 (and similar legislation) has ushered in ideological threats to academic freedom and afforded policy makers increasing levels of control in the academy. This commentary positions legislative assaults at higher education institutions – predominantly launched at non-STEM disciplines – as extensions of the 100-year-long humanities “crisis" and recommends that humanists and feminist pedagogues use this moment of continued crisis to re-define and re-locate the humanities. Looking at …

The Affective Labor Of Cross-Disciplinary Communication Education: Enacting A Feminist Praxis, Kailin Regutti, Zane Austin Willard

Feminist Pedagogy

This critical commentary addresses the pedagogical experiences of being instructional assistants of communication in an engineering classroom at a Florida public university. In weaving together our experiences, we reflexively explore the affective labor and challenges of teaching interpersonal and intercultural communication concepts in a STEM environment while navigating restrictive state legislation and varying disciplinary perspectives and metatheoretical assumptions. We manage these dynamic tensions by adopting a feminist pedagogical praxis that works toward reimagining futures for STEM education—a future that helps students foster a critical consciousness and apply communication as a means of developing more equitable and just solutions across industries. …

Pedagogies Of Discomfort: Critical Lessons From Florida Feminist Professors, Aisha Durham Dr., Mahuya Pal Dr., Sonia Ivancic Dr. Nov 2024

Pedagogies Of Discomfort: Critical Lessons From Florida Feminist Professors, Aisha Durham Dr., Mahuya Pal Dr., Sonia Ivancic Dr.

Feminist Pedagogy

In a collaborative letter, Florida feminist faculty instructors describe pedagogies of discomfort devised by the state to empower an assumed alienated student decentered by difference and to disquiet a culturally responsive teacher who treats education as transformation and liberation rather than career-relevant job training. They recall classroom resistance strategies and tactics not only to speak to the policies of erasure in this moment, but also to speak to the precarious student who needs to feel cared for, honored, and acknowledged in their pursuit to learn and unlearn to be in community today. The political intent of discomfort is to divide …
