“Sometimes I Have To Announce My Feminism And I Don’T Mind Doing That”: Instructor Self-Disclosure Of Feminism In The Classroom, Elaina Ross, Kristopher D. Copeland
Feminist Pedagogy
An instructor’s self-disclosure is an important source of connectedness for students. The goal of this article was to describe how college instructors self-disclosed and discussed feminism. Qualitative interviews with 19 participants yielded findings that indicated a variety of communicative strategies utilized by instructors to self-disclose feminist beliefs, such as verbally stating one was a feminist to nonverbally communicating messages connected to course content. Further, an instructor’s feminist beliefs shaped the pedagogy implemented to discuss feminism in the classroom. Findings suggest self-disclosure of feminist beliefs were valuable in the classroom. Additionally, specific communication strategies to employ to self-disclose feminism in the …

Lorentz Violations And The Casimir Effect, Samuel G. Christensen
Lorentz Violations And The Casimir Effect, Samuel G. Christensen
Physics
The background and calculation for the corrections to the Casimir Energy stored on parallel conducting plates due to minimal violations of Lorentz invariance are presented as a test of the Standard Model. A direction-dependent photon dispersion relation using operators of dimension 4 and higher is used in the calculation of the spacetime anisotropy correction terms to the Casimir energy. The calculation includes discussion of Riemann zeta function regularization and its equivalence to Euler-Maclaurin sum-integral formulas in a Casimir effect calculation. The two plate geometry result is mapped onto a one plate and sphere geometry to cater to modern precision tests …

Millipyde: A Cross-Platform Python Framework For Transparent Gpu Acceleration, James B. Asbury
Millipyde: A Cross-Platform Python Framework For Transparent Gpu Acceleration, James B. Asbury
Master's Theses
The prevalence of general-purpose GPU computing continues to grow and tackle a wider variety of problems that benefit from GPU-acceleration. This acceleration often suffers from a high barrier to entry, however, due to the complexity of software tools that closely map to the underlying GPU hardware, the fast-changing landscape of GPU environments, and the fragmentation of tools and languages that only support specific platforms. Because of this, new solutions will continue to be needed to make GPGPU acceleration more accessible to the developers that can benefit from it. AMD’s new cross-platform development ecosystem ROCm provides promise for developing applications and …
Optimizing A Virtual Human Platform For Depression/Suicide Ideation Identification For The American Soldier, Christina M. Monahan
Optimizing A Virtual Human Platform For Depression/Suicide Ideation Identification For The American Soldier, Christina M. Monahan
Master's Theses
Suicide surpassed homicide to be the second leading cause of death among people 10-24 years old in the United States \cite{1}. This statistic is alarming especially when combined with the more than eight distinctly different types of clinical depression among society today \cite{2}. To further complicate this health crisis, let’s consider the current worldwide isolating pandemic often referred to as COVID-19 that has spanned 12 months. It is more important than ever to consider how we can get ahead of the crisis by identifying the symptoms as they set in and more importantly ahead of the decision to commit suicide. …

Creating Promotional Products For Flame Broiler Inc., David Lee
Creating Promotional Products For Flame Broiler Inc., David Lee
Graphic Communication
Throughout my time in Graphic Communication, the aspect of taking a product design from ideation to creation interested me the most. I have taken multiple classes that allowed me to do this, but with pre-determined parameters. Screen printing always caught my attention mainly because I wanted to make my own clothing. Though I learned how to execute the process, I never applied that knowledge into my own project. With my internship at Flame Broiler Inc. and my enrollment in GrC 462, a perfect opportunity presented itself. The marketing team at the company was open to any ideas and liked the …
