Anthropocentrism: More Than Just A Misunderstood Problem, Helen Kopnina, Haydn Washington, Bron Taylor, John Piccolo
Anthropocentrism: More Than Just A Misunderstood Problem, Helen Kopnina, Haydn Washington, Bron Taylor, John Piccolo
The International Journal of Ecopsychology (IJE)
Anthropocentrism, in its original connotation in environmental ethics, is the belief that value is human-centered and that all other beings are means to human ends. Environmentally-concerned authors have argued that anthropocentrism is ethically wrong and at the root of ecological crises. Some environmental ethicists argue, however, that critics of anthropocentrism are misguided or even misanthropic. They contend: first that criticism of anthropocentrism can be counterproductive and misleading by failing to distinguish between legitimate and illegitimate human interests. Second, that humans differ greatly in their environmental impacts, and consequently, addressing human inequalities should be a precondition for environmental protection. Third, since …

Critical Infrastructure At Risk Sea Level Rise Planning Guidance For California’S Coastal Zone, California Coastal Commission
State & Federal Reports and Publications
The goal of this Guidance is to promote resilient coastal infrastructure and protection of coastal resources by providing local governments, asset managers, and other stakeholders with policy and planning information to help inform sea level rise adaptation decisions that are consistent with the California Coastal Act. The Guidance addresses specific assets that fall within two main types of critical infrastructure: transportation and water.

Sea Level Rise Adaptation Plan For Transportation Infrastructure And Other Critical Resources In The Eureka Slough Hydrographic Area, Humboldt Bay, Ghd, Environmental Science Associates, Northern Hydrology & Engineering, Philip King And Kristina Kunkel (San Francisco State University), Redwood Community Action Agency, Trinity Associates
Local Reports and Publications
This plan (study) presents a framework for developing sea level rise adaptation strategies within the highly vulnerable Eureka Slough hydrographic area of Humboldt Bay. The purpose of the study was to work with public agencies, landowners, scientists, and stakeholders to better understand the specific flood risks to the transportation infrastructure and other critical resources within the study area and to identify viable adaptation measures in the near-term planning horizon (now through mid-century) for the most at-risk locations. A primary focus of the study was to develop a scenario-based planning approach for understanding the range of possible impacts and consequences resulting …

Working Towards Land Return In Goukdi’N: A History Of Genocide And A Future Of Healing, Carrie Tully
Working Towards Land Return In Goukdi’N: A History Of Genocide And A Future Of Healing, Carrie Tully
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
Since 2009, the city of Arcata, R. H. Emmerson & Sons, and Humboldt State University have collaborated on the transfer of an 884-acre tract of land in Goukdi’n (known locally as Jacoby Creek Forest). The main goals of this project are to prevent fragmentation of the land, protect wildlife, and to support and enhance student research opportunities. In the ten years that it took for this land to be transferred to the California State University and in the care of Humboldt State University the Wiyot Tribe was not consulted regarding the parcels, their purchase, or their being given to HSU. …
