As indicated by the title, this study presents a history of Federal Legislation against Mormon polygamy prior to 1890 and of certain United States Supreme Court decisions supporting such legislation. Of necessity, the subject had to be limited, emphasis being placed upon three legislative acts and upon a few leading court decisions.

The writer, being interested in the agricultural project of cotton growing in early Dixie, and finding scarcely anything written on the subject, has gone into the original sources, histories, journals, diaries, etc., and found a reservoir of enlightenment regarding cotton culture in Utah's Dixie. He has tried to assemble from the most important sources, an informative yet interesting study of cotton culture in Utah. A summary of the literature on the nutritional value of iodine in the diet of various forms of life is given. The majority of evidence indicates that iodine is an essential element in plant and animal nutrition. It functions particularly in animal metabolism in the form of thyroxine. The occurrence of iodine in a nature has been briefly discussed. Investigations made in this regard indicate iodine to be almost universally distributed in very minute amounts. Most iodine salts are soluble in water and their distribution is affected by water movements. Results of iodine determinations made during the course of this …

This work is presented for the purpose of contributing to a more accurate understanding of woman's place in the philosophy of Mormonism, and as a basis for further study on this problem.
The writer has not attempted to prove any particular hypothesis regarding Mormon women but has presented data which give an historical account of woman's status in the Church and among Mormon people during the first fifteen years of the organization of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Distribution Of Plant Types In The Escalante Desert Of Utah With Relation To Soil Conditions, Carlyle B. Lambert

This problem was a study of plant species in the Escalante Desert, Utah, in relation to soil conditions. The plants were surveyed by the transect-plot method. The plants and soils were analyzed by percentage-frequency techniques. There is no measurable correlation between soil series and the dominant plants which occur on the soils. There is no correlation between soil types and the plants that are dominant on the soil types. There is a definite correlation between textural classes of the soil and the plants that are dominant on these classes.

The Book of Mormon was published over one hundred years ago. In the meantime, many articles have been written and many discourses have been published, both for and against this volume. In reflecting upon this matter the following questions arose in the mind of the author: Have the writers and speakers been concerned about the same materials, have they treated the same themes, as the years have passed? To ascertain whether or not there has been a shift in emphasis, the following investigation was undertaken.

This study is an attempt to bring together such available material , heretofore not collected, into a single compilation pertaining to the plant associations of Utah and Salt Lake Valleys. An endeavor is made to build a picture of the vegetation as it was before the pioneers entered these valleys as compared with what it is today. My purpose in making a study of music criticism in Utah is to realize a reliable historical account of criticism as expressed by means of journals and the growth of music within the state. This study, it is granted, is not a complete history of music in Utah. It merely treats one phase of a yet unwritten history.

Brigham Young was an American product of the nineteenth century. John Calvin was a European product of the sixteenth century. Each of these men left definite impressions upon world history. Of the two, Calvin is more widely understood and better known, but we should remember that the element of time was in his favor.

This study is an attempt to bring together available material, heretofore not collected, into a single publication pertaining to the policy of the Latter-day Saints in the treatment of the Indians - a policy that was largely peculiarly their own.
