Family Life Education In The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints In The 20th Century: A Historical Review, Ray W. Stringham
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis reviewed selected educational literature in almost 350 texts published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon) from General Authorities and manuals which included content curriculum in adult family life education; for the adult women's organization (Relief Society); for the men's Melchizedek Priesthood; and for parents instructing their children at home (Family Home Evening).
Topics were ranked by century, according to frequencies of occurrence (FO) in the five major publications. Topics were also summarized by each decade. Tables were provided which summarized the top 40 of 78 topics identified. Recurring Themes suggest family is the basis …

My Father's Story, Jens Peter Nielsen
The Bridge
Jens Peter Nelsen, was born November 28, 1889 and was married to Gertrude Elizabeth Nelsen on July 14, 1915. They had eight children. He worked on the home farm until the fall of 1911 when he took a job in Ringsted, Iowa, where he learned sheet-metal work. For some years he had his own business, but in the 1920s, as result of poor economic conditions, he took a job in Dennison, Iowa, for about a year. From Dennison he, and his family, moved to Storm Lake, Iowa, for a year before moving to Sioux City, Iowa, where they lived for …

The Bridge
This is a personal story. It is an attempt to trace my philosophy of adult continuing education (ACE) to my roots in Denmark and to uncover the reasons why entering the Adult Education Program at Northern Illinois University (NIU) felt like coming home after many years of trying to find a place in a society that was philosophically out of harmony with my essence. Throughout my degree program, I have noticed that whenever Highlander Folk School was discussed in classes or in the literature, it struck a chord with me. This feeling went unexplored due to time constraints or other …

The Bridge
Washday was always a major event in our household when we were children. Early every Monday morning Dad helped Mother get the necessary equipment set up. In the shed just below the kitchen, he rolled the washing machine into place, and set the two washtubs for rinsing the clothes on sawhorses around it. Then he hauled two large cream cans of hot water from the creamery (about a block away), one for the washer and one for the first rinse tub. For the second rinse tub he pumped soft water from the cistern: Mother always put bluing in that rinse …

Ecological Relationships Of Curlleaf Mountain-Mahogany (Cercocarpus Ledifolius Nutt.) Communities In Utah And Implications For Management, James N. Davis, Jack D. Brotherson
Ecological Relationships Of Curlleaf Mountain-Mahogany (Cercocarpus Ledifolius Nutt.) Communities In Utah And Implications For Management, James N. Davis, Jack D. Brotherson
Great Basin Naturalist
Curlleaf mountain-mahogany is a widely distributed shrubby tree of western North America. Well-developed stands are most often found on warm, dry, rocky ridges and slopes at high elevations on mostly southern exposures. It can, however, be found onall exposures. The species appears to be indifferent to substrate with soils which are invariably shallow and of low fertility. However, the nitrogen-fixing root nodules help overcome soil deficiencies. This highly palatable species is preferred by mountain sheep, mountain goats, deer, and elk. Its nutritive value (about 12% protein) and digestibility ratings (around 50%) in the winter are high when compared with most …
