New Species Of Splendidofilaria And Chandlerella (Filarioidea: Nematoda), With Keys To The Species, From The Band-Tailed Pigeon (Columba Fasciata Fasciata) In The Rocky Mountain Region, O. Wilford Olsen, Clait E. Braun
Braun
Great Basin Naturalist
One male each of Splendidofilaria columbensis n. sp. and S. hibleri n. sp. was found in the subcutaneous fascia of the thighs of a single Band-tailed Pigeon. The relationship of female worms could not be correlated with the males. Chandlerella robinsoni n. sp. was recovered from the blood vessels of the liver and the fascia of the thighs of six birds. Keys to the males of the species of both genera, together with drawings of the spicules of each species, when available, are included.
Helminth Parasites Of Cats And Dogs From Central Utah, Thomas W. Sawyer, Lari M. Cowgill, Ferron L. Andersen
Helminth Parasites Of Cats And Dogs From Central Utah, Thomas W. Sawyer, Lari M. Cowgill, Ferron L. Andersen
Great Basin Naturalist
A survey of the helminth parasites of 100 stray cats and 50 dogs was conducted. Each host was euthanized, and the internal organs were excised and examined for parasites. Helminths identified from cats included the tapeworms Dipylidium caninum and Hydatigera taeniaformis, and the nematodes Physaloptera sp. and Toxocara mystax. Two species of coccidia, Isospora felis and I. rivolta, and one ectoparasitic mite, Cheyletiella parasitivorax, were also recovered from cats during sugar flotation of the feces. Helminths identified from dogs included the tapeworms D. caninum, Taenia hydatigena, T. krabbei, and T. pisiformis, and the nematodes Filaroides milksi, Toxascaris leonina, and Toxocara …

Potential Diets For Carp Production, Rex Carlton Infanger
Potential Diets For Carp Production, Rex Carlton Infanger
Theses and Dissertations
The objective of this study was to determine the feasibility of raising carp on pig manure and coli, Brassica campestris. The use of pig feces as a source of fish food has been questioned by researchers (Hickling 1968). Coli was selected for dietary intake by fish since it is used for human consumption by the Indians of Guatemala. Commercial fish food (Silver Cup) was used for a control diet. These diets were both combined and used as a single source of food.

"C'e piu distanza effettiva tra l'infanzia e la vechiaia di mia madre che tra lei bambina e gli uomini delle caverne" (There is more real distance between the childhood and the old age of my mother than between her as a little girl and man in the stone age), the author exclaims, as he observes from the new power dam, which has been constructed in his native Verzasca valley in the canton of Ticino, how a great part of the rural world of his ancestors is being submerged for ever. In such surroundings his mother had not been allowed by …

The American Revolution: A Lesson In Dissent. The Case Of John Joachim Zubly, Leo Schelbert
Swiss American Historical Society Newsletter
On September 3, 1775, John Joachim Zubly, pastor of the Independent Presbyterian Church in Savannah, Georgia, and at that date a delegate of that province to the Second Continental Congress of the Thirteen Colonies assembled in Philadelphia, put the final touch to a manuscript which soon thereafter went to press . It was entitled The Law of Liberty. A Sermon on American Affairs Preached at the Opening of the Provincial Congress of Georgia. The manifesto consisted of three parts: The first was an introductory address "To the Right Honourable William Henry, Earl of Dartmouth" (3/III),** which presented an incisive view …
A Revision Of Eriogonum (Polygonaceae) Subgenus Pterogonum, William J. Hess, James L. Reveal
A Revision Of Eriogonum (Polygonaceae) Subgenus Pterogonum, William J. Hess, James L. Reveal
Great Basin Naturalist
This revision discusses the 10 species of Eriogonum assigned to the subgenus Pterogonum. Six of the species are essentially restricted to northern Mexico; two additional species, E. hemipterum and E. nealleyi, are found primarily in Texas; and the remaining two, E. hieracifolium and E. alatum, are the most widespread species of the subgenus being found mainly in the United States and just barely entering Mexico. The subgenus is characterized by the broad, often winged or ribbed achenes, and the generally erect habit of the stems of these perennial herbs. Three new species, E. fimbriatum, E. viscanum, and E. clivosum, are …

Efficacy Of Zoalene And Clopidol In Dogs Experimentally Infected With Isospora Canis, James Carson Brown
Efficacy Of Zoalene And Clopidol In Dogs Experimentally Infected With Isospora Canis, James Carson Brown
Theses and Dissertations
Isospora canis (Protozoa:Nemeseri, 1959) is an important coccidian parasite of domestic dogs. Ingestion of the sporulated oocysts causes the release of sporozoites which invade the epithe-lial lining of the intestine. Schizogony and gametogony take place in the epithelial tissue resulting in a massive proliferation of the parasite and extensive destruction of the intestinal cells (Lepp and Todd, 1974). Severe infections cause loss of appetite, diarrhea and dysentery (Levine, 1973).
A Phylogenetic Study Of The Suffrutescent Shrubs In The Genus Atriplex, C. Lorenzo Pope
A Phylogenetic Study Of The Suffrutescent Shrubs In The Genus Atriplex, C. Lorenzo Pope
Theses and Dissertations
Growing on dry saline soils throughout the Intermountain Region of the United States is a group of herbaceous, perennial species of Atriplex, including A. corrugata, A. cuneata, A. cuneata ssp. Introgressa, A. falcata, A. gardneri, A. tridentata, and A. welshii, designated as the Atriplex gardneri complex. Highly adaptive and competitive in the arid salt deserts, these species are valuable as forage for livestock and wildlife. Because of extensive variation present within this complex, considerable taxonomic confusion has resulted. To clarify taxonomic and phylogenetic relationships, selected populations and plants were analyzed morphologically, cytologically, ecologically, phenologically, and genetically. Polyploidy is common within …
