It is a book brought forth by prophetic gifts for prophetic purposes. It speaks in a clarion voice with words of counsel to those who would survive the last days.

Recommendations For The Mental Health Treatment Of Human Trafficking Survivors, Christina M. Tsoi Nov 2023

Recommendations For The Mental Health Treatment Of Human Trafficking Survivors, Christina M. Tsoi

Theses and Dissertations

Human trafficking is a worldwide problem that places those trafficked at very high risk for multiple adverse outcomes, including mental illness. Although research on human trafficking has become abundant in other academic disciplines (e.g., sociology, public health, criminology, social work), psychology research specific to the mental health treatment of survivors remains limited. Objective: The purpose of this study was to gather recommendations from mental health professionals for the mental health treatment of trafficking survivors. Method: This paper reviewed extant literature regarding human trafficking and current mental health treatment provided to survivors. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 21 mental health professionals …

Rage In Chronic Pulmonary Inflammation And Obstetric Complications, Katrina Lynn Curtis Nov 2023

Rage In Chronic Pulmonary Inflammation And Obstetric Complications, Katrina Lynn Curtis

Theses and Dissertations

The receptor for advanced glycation end-products (RAGE) is a transmembrane cell surface protein of the immunoglobulin superfamily that acts as part of both the innate and adaptive immune system. RAGE is highly expressed in lung tissue and is therefore of interest in the pulmonary immune response. Specifically, RAGE mediates several cell-signaling responses such as inflammation and apoptosis. This work sought to elucidate the role of RAGE in the setting of chronic pulmonary irritation such as that found in long-term exposure to secondhand smoke (SHS). This irritation has several shared characteristics with lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) …

This study is an examination of how prosodic pitch and intensity compare in autistic individuals and neurotypical individuals. Ten-minute recordings of casual conversation were taken and analyzed. Participants included 11 autistic individuals and 11 neurotypical individuals with six males and five females in each group. The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, 2nd Edition (ADOS-2; Lord et al., 2012) prosody rating scale was used to collect a perceptual evaluation of each participan's prosody, and Praat acoustic analysis software was used to collect measures of pitch and intensity over the 10-minute period to investigate how speech characteristics change with conversation partner familiarity. Results …

Video Games For The Win: Examining The Net Positive Impact On Emotional, Cognitive, And Social Aspects Of Mental Health In Today’S Youth, James Sanford

Student Works

Video games are becoming an integral part of society, as more than 90% of adolescents play them often, and the industry is growing in revenue every year (Granic et al., 2014). However, many mainstream media outlets portray video games as detrimental to mental health and damaging to cognitive abilities, with initial research into video games initially corroborating such claims and finding correlations to violent behavior (Ferguson, 2020). These early research methods could have been more robust; moreover, focusing on only the negative aspects of gaming research significantly reduced their ability to properly understand gaming’s full impact. Video games typically encourage …

Advancements In Molten Salt Physical Property Measurement: Archimedean Density, Couette Viscometer, And Flibe-Te Solution Penetration Analysis, Kent Powell Detrick

Theses and Dissertations

This work primarily centers on measuring the physical properties of molten salts. It's dedicated to outlining the methodology, enhancing measurement methods, and scrutinizing data to uncover insights regarding the interaction between molten salt and solid structures in the context of designing and generating electrical energy in molten salt reactors. The initial phase of this research involved collaborating with Brigham Young University's molecular dynamics simulation group to create an Archimedean density measurement device. This endeavor was primarily geared towards generating empirical data for the purpose of enhancing molecular dynamics simulation data. The tasks encompassed designing and validating the experimental setup, with …

Inscriptions Support Transoceanic Contact

Insights: The Newsletter of the Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship

John Sorenson recently joined other scholars in examining ancient inscriptions in southeastern Colorado that appear to be written in Ogam, a language known chiefly from Ireland in medieval times. While claims for the authenticity of ancient inscriptions in west European or North African writing systems allegedly found in many parts of North America have been rejected by most archaeologists because of the flawed evidence put forward to support the claims, these particular inscriptions are unusually impressive and cannot be dismissed as modern fakes.

Reprints And Preliminary Reports

Insights: The Newsletter of the Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship

Does the Book of Mormon stand alone when it says that Jesus taught important gospel messages after his resurrection? "No," answers Hugh Nibley, as he surveys the "40 day literature" in his 1966 article entitled Evangelium Quadraginta Dierum. Although modern biblical scholars tend to discount the early Christian accounts of the post-resurrection ministry of the Savior, Nibley argues for a literal, historical interpretation. From this, an interesting perspective on 3 Nephi can emerge.

Book Of Mormon Critical Text

Insights: The Newsletter of the Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship

Critical texts of the Bible have been available for many years, showing variant readings from early Greek or Hebrew manuscripts accompanying the familiar phrasing of the standard Bible. Heavily footnoted, these volumes show how words and structures of the text have appeared in different editions over time and in different languages. They have become an essential tool for scholarly research on the scripture. They also aid serious readers by clarifying how the text may be interpreted.
