The International Diffusion Of The Mormon Church, Samuel Otterstrom Jan 1994

The International Diffusion Of The Mormon Church, Samuel Otterstrom

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis outlines the international diffusion and growth of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or Mormon Church. A model of Mormon spatial diffusion in foreign countries is developed incorporating both a functional and spatial perspective. The functional perspective includes supply and demand variables which influence the rate of growth of the Mormon Church in a country. The functional perspective is not fully explored in the thesis. The spatial perspective which the study concentrates on seeks to show a general spatial pattern related to the spread of the Church within countries.

The original diffusion of the Church to …

Mormon As Editor: A Study In Colophons, Headers, And Source Indicators, Thomas W. Mackay Jul 1993

Mormon As Editor: A Study In Colophons, Headers, And Source Indicators, Thomas W. Mackay

Journal of Book of Mormon Studies

The Book of Mormon contains various colophons and source indicators that signal documents or authors that Mormon and the writers of the small plates used, quoted, paraphrased, or summarized in composing the final text. Some of these headers have been italicized and separated out by the printer; others form an integral part of the text but could as well have been separated and italicized. Mormon’s extensive notation of sources is another set of evidence for the intricate and complex nature of the text and, simultaneously, of the magnitude of Mormon’s work as an ancient editor and historian.

This task force was formed in August 1992 to work for the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) Foreign acquisitions Project for Japanese materials. The charge of the task force is to write a report which assesses current strengths and weaknesses of the major United States and Canadian Japanese research collections, determines their needs and priorities, and offers concrete action/funding proposals to address the identified problems. Fortunately, a number of previous reports and studies on the issues are available, and we reviewed and studied them carefully, including the "Survey" (1980) by Naomi Fukuda, the Perushek Report (1990), and the reports of …

Archival And Library Resources Within The Mid-Atlantic States Region For Advancing Scholarship In East Asian Studies, Frank Joseph Shulman

Journal of East Asian Libraries

The Mid-Atlantic States region is the home to a vast array of archival and library resources that have long-term research value for scholars and students interested in the history, politics, commerce and culture of the countries of East Asia and in American interaction with China, Japan and Korea. A series of fifteen panels between 1977 and 1991 presented a wide range of papers about some of these resources at the annual meetings of the Mid-Atlantic Region/Association for Asian Studies (MAR/AAS).

Bryophytes On The Calcareous Soils Of Mungo National Park, An Arid Area Of Southern Central Australia, A. J. Downing, P. M. Selkirk Apr 1993

Bryophytes On The Calcareous Soils Of Mungo National Park, An Arid Area Of Southern Central Australia, A. J. Downing, P. M. Selkirk

Great Basin Naturalist

Bryophytes were found to be abundant as components of microbiotic soil crusts on the calcareous soils of Mungo National Park, an arid area of southern central Australia. Six sites that reflected differences in soils, topography, and vascular plant vegetation were studied. At each site bryophytes were abundant, both in terms of number of species present and percent ground cover. Number of species present did not differ significantly between sites, but percent bryophyte cover was lower at a site on sand dunes in mallee woodland and a site on a silcrete ridge than at the four other sites. Environmental factors (soil …
