A Generalized Information Structure To Be Used In A Human-Factors Knowledge Base, Bruce J. Wachlin
A Generalized Information Structure To Be Used In A Human-Factors Knowledge Base, Bruce J. Wachlin
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this thesis is to design a generalized information structure that can be used in a human-factors knowledge base. The information structure will take into account the human factors requirements and the hardware characteristics of the system. In this thesis the design and implementation of several prototype systems of a generalized information structure to be used in a human-factors knowledge base are presented.

Heaps Brick Oven Restaurant: Marketing Survey, Scott Greenhalgh, Jay Crum, Dailand Allen, Victor Funk
Student Works
This is a report of the findings of the market research project performed by the market research group of Proctor and Associates for the Brick Oven restaurant. Our goal has been to develop information that accurately presents the perceptions of the customers of the Brick Oven restaurant. Prepared by Scott Greenhalgh, Jay Crum, Dailand Allen, Victor Funk, E. Scott Proctor. The population surveyed was the current customers of the Brick Oven Restaurant. The sample selected was all of the customers who dined at the restaurant during the target week of October 21 to October 26, 1985. This survey has been …

Book Review: Conflict And Compromise In Multilingual Societies, Heinz K. Meier
Book Review: Conflict And Compromise In Multilingual Societies, Heinz K. Meier
Swiss American Historical Society Newsletter
Kenneth D. McRae, professor of political science at Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada, has spent much of his academic career studying Swiss multilingualism and multiculturalism. In the course of his endeavors he has become an expert on the topic, as is reflected in the books and articles he has published on it, best known among them Switzerland: Example of Cultural Coexistence (1964). Since Canada is itself a linguistically and culturally divided country, Dr. McRae's work on Switzerland assumed a wider significance, inasmuch as it lent itself as a basis for comparison and, perhaps, instruction, especially in his function as a research …

A Theoretical Basis For Practical Amplifier Design Using Cascaded Operational Amplifiers, David J. Comer
A Theoretical Basis For Practical Amplifier Design Using Cascaded Operational Amplifiers, David J. Comer
Faculty Publications
A procedure is developed for the design of amplifiers to meet specified gain and bandwidth figures. The number of required operational amplifier stages is minimised. A figure of merit is introduced to determine if a particular operational amplifier can be used to satisfy a given set of specifications.

In Memoriam: William Wallace Newby (1902–1977), William H. Behle
Great Basin Naturalist
W. W. Newby, professor of biology at the University of Utah from 1927 to 1971, was renowned as a great teacher and a clear and forceful writer and for his meticulous research in invertebrate embryology. Ancillary skills were counseling (especially of premedical students), illustrating, wood crafting, and paper preserving. Some of his writings pertained to the history of research in the biological sciences at the University of Utah. His specialty areas in teaching were embryology and genetics, and he served as chairman of the Department of Genetics and Cytology from the year of its creation in 1948 until 1962. The …

A Generalized Molien Function For Field Theoretical Hamiltonians, Jeffrey W. Felix, Dorian M. Hatch
A Generalized Molien Function For Field Theoretical Hamiltonians, Jeffrey W. Felix, Dorian M. Hatch
Faculty Publications
A generating function, or Molien function, the coefficients of which give the number of independent polynomial invariants in G, has been useful in the Landau and renormalization group theories of phase transitions. Here a generalized Molien function for a field theoretical Hamiltonian (with short-range interactions) of the most general form invariant in a group G is derived. This form is useful for more general renormalization group calculations. Its Taylor series is calculated to low order for the FGamma-2 representation of the space group R[3 bar]c and also for the l=1 (faithful) representation of SO(3).
Statistical Assumption-Making In Library Collection Assessment: Peccadilloes And Pitfalls, Richard Hacken
Statistical Assumption-Making In Library Collection Assessment: Peccadilloes And Pitfalls, Richard Hacken
Faculty Publications
Assessing library collections in the Semiconductor Age necessarily involves a heavy use of quantitative data. The assumptions made during the process of gathering, manipulating, and reporting library statistics may or may not be valid ones. Objective and vigilant scrutiny, therefore, can make the difference between an assessment that adds to a greater knowledge of the collection and one that only adds greater bulk to The File. Among the areas affected by statistical assumptions are (in lay terms): the sample, the survey, the percentage, the average, the degree of accuracy.
My Life, Hans Banziger
My Life, Hans Banziger
Swiss American Historical Society Newsletter
One of my very young students having gotten once the task to write on his short lifetime introduced his witty essay with the remark that curricula vitae reminded him always of necrologies. He went on, using the fiction of a minister's sermon, to describe his career: "A promising young life came abruptly to an end; Karl X had wanted to become a teacher, but his grades were not good enough ... ". Thus, you might understand, why I myself hesitated a little when Marianne Burkhard asked me to write about my life. Memoirs always sound a little bit sad. But …
