Poisonous Plants Of Utah, Jack D. Brotherson, Lee A. Szyska, William E. Evenson
Poisonous Plants Of Utah, Jack D. Brotherson, Lee A. Szyska, William E. Evenson
Great Basin Naturalist
A list of the major livestock-poisoning plants has been compiled for the state of Utah. Two hundred fifteen taxa representing 36 families, 119 genera, and 209 species occur within the state. Forty-one percent are from two families, the Asteraceae and the Fabaceae. The remaining families of major importance are: Poaceae, Ranunculaceae, Solanaceae, Chenopodiaceae, Brassicaceae, Ascelpiadaceae, Liliaceae, and Euphorbiaceae. Sixty-nine percent of the genera occur with a single species. Thirty-three percent of the taxa are introduced to the state. Most of the plants are insect pollinated; 57 percent are herbaceous perennials.
Most livestock poisoning occurs during the spring. This is due …
Temporal Activity Patterns Of Dipodomys Ordii Population, Clive D. Jorgensen, H. Duane Smith, James R. Garcia
Temporal Activity Patterns Of Dipodomys Ordii Population, Clive D. Jorgensen, H. Duane Smith, James R. Garcia
Great Basin Naturalist
Temporal activity patterns for Dipodomys ordii were generally bimodal during the summer, with the highest peak occurring during early predawn hours when conditions were optimum for water conservation. Removal of dominant members in the population resulted in a substantial shift in the activity pattern to increased activity during the evening hours.

A Comparison Of Epiphytic Diatom Assemblages On Living And Dead Stems Of The Common Grass Phragmites Australis, Judith A. Grimes, Larry L. St. Clair, Samuel R. Rushforth
Great Basin Naturalist
Diatoms epiphytic on Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steaded stems were collected from a single clone at the southern end of Provo Bay, Utah Lake, Utah. Diatom populations from both living and dead stem sections were analyzed. Species diversity in each sample was high, indicating that the stems provide a relatively stable habitat for diatom epiphytes. Of the 23 genera found, only Gomphonema and Navicula showed significant trends toward stem preference. The diatoms in this study support the current view that Utah Lake is a slightly saline, eutrophic system.

Printed Maps Of Utah To 1900: An Annotated Cartobibliography, Riley Moore Moffat
Printed Maps Of Utah To 1900: An Annotated Cartobibliography, Riley Moore Moffat
Theses and Dissertations
Old maps are valuable research tools in many fields. Finding and identifying them, however, is often difficult. This annotated cartobibliography attempts to identify all maps of Utah printed before 1900. Entries give the distinguishing features, peculiarities, inaccuracies, and a general description as well as the map's provenance and citations in other lists and bibliographies.
The maps are listed chronologically and include all maps located in research collections in Utah, and in the catalogs of the Library of Congress and the Bancroft Library. Although the first entry is dated 1777, the first map of Utah made from actual observation, earlier maps …

Issues in Religion and Psychotherapy
Poetry, to me (and I suspect to many of us), is like a second language -- like "speaking in tongues." We are told that the ability to speak with tongues is a gift (D&C 46:24), as is the ability to interpret what is said (D&C 46:25). We are also told that we should "study and learn, and become acquainted with . . . tongues. . . " (D&C 90:15). In an effort to help us achieve this purpose and appreciate his gift, I invited Brother Helmstetler to submit an interpretation of his poem, the meaning of which was too obscure …

Purrysburg, An Archaeological Survey, Larry Lepionka
Purrysburg, An Archaeological Survey, Larry Lepionka
Swiss American Historical Society Newsletter
An archaeological reconnaissance of the colonial site of Purrysburg, on the Savannah River in Jasper County, South Carolina, has been conducted intermittently through the year 1979, with the goal of locating structural or other artifactual remains of the original Swiss settlement established here in 1733. Work was restricted to a surface search with only limited subsurface testing. Brick outcroppings occurred at various locations but their date could not be ascertained without extensive excavation. Artifact scatters including datable ceramics were common and suggest a peak in occupation between 1790 and 1820, well after the initial Swiss settlement. Early and middle 18th …

Structured Group Treatment For Divorce/Death Adjustment, Margaret H. Hoopes, Sally Barlow
Structured Group Treatment For Divorce/Death Adjustment, Margaret H. Hoopes, Sally Barlow
Issues in Religion and Psychotherapy
Structured group treatments have emerged in the last few years as a viable mode of helping people. They are defined as those groups taking place within a specific amount of time using specified exercises and/ or treatment to accomplish a pre-determined set of educational and/or therapeutic goals. Such groups often focus on the stresses caused by such things as predictable developmental needs (leaving home) or unpredictable life crisis (divorce) by teaching skills otherwise left to chance. Underlying problems such as anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem may also be modified by structured treatments.
The following outline will help in the writing, …
