Latent blood visualizers have been used in forensic science since 1937 beginning with Luminol. These visualizers through different types of reactions react with trace amounts of blood that cannot be seen with the naked human eye. These different reactions produce color that can then be seen by examiners. The four types of latent blood visualizers that were compared is luminol, leuco crystal violet, fluorescein, and bluestar. Luminol and bluestar use chemiluminescence, fluorescein uses florescent, and leuco crystal violet uses oxidation to react with iron in hemoglobin. Cancer still remains one of the top leading causes of death in America. Recently, programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) blockades have been demonstrated to be highly effective against various types of cancer. By blocking PD-1 from binding with their ligands (PD-L1 and PD-L2), the “off” signal to the immune system is inhibited, hence reinvigorating the immune cells to kill tumor cells. To date, despite PD-L1 and PD-L2 both interacting with PD-1, research efforts have only been focused on developing anti-PD-L1 inhibitors. Behaviors For Which Deinonychosaurs Used Their Feet, Alexander King

This paper seeks to show for what purpose deinonychosaurs used their feet. Fowler et al., (2011) showed that D. antirrhopus’s feet were closest in function to accipitrids, as they found it was more built for grasping prey than running.

I answered this question by using 2D images of the feet of three modern birds (Buteo jamaicensis, Phasianus colchicus, and Gallus gallus domesticus), one eudromaeosaur (Deinonychus antirrhopus), and one troodontid (Borogovia gracilicrus). I used ImageJ to apply 73 landmarks to each foot, capturing the variation between species in the metatarsals and pedal phalanges. These data were then uploaded to the software …

Organizational Support Factors For Minor League Baseball Player Development, Christopher M. Mcleod, Nola Agha, Simon Rosenblum-Larson

Journal of Athlete Development and Experience

This study examines organizational support in the context of minor league baseball to better understand how organizations can support athletes’ development. Exploratory results show that English and Spanish players identify salary/pay, off-season training opportunities, and nutritious food as their most important unmet development needs. English and Spanish respondents differently prioritized playing opportunities, communication with front office staff, health care, and equipment as unmet needs. Explanatory results show that organizational support factors (private problem support and second career support) explain 17% of the variation in minor league baseball players’ self-perceptions of development. This article explores the role of cognitive transformations in the process of desistance from crime. Based on our own and others’ subsequent research, clearly, some aspects of our initial theorizing warrant revisiting and adjustment. The discussion describes changes to ideas about the sequencing of various types of cognitive shifts, suggests the importance of emotional processes in tandem with changes in perspective, and highlights the need to move out of the comfort zone of crime itself when thinking about redefinitions that support desistance. Background: Exercise is known to improve the cognitive function, including short-term memory. Exercise can induce structural and functional changes of the brain, i.e. synaptic plasticity. Exercise is categorized into two groups: aerobic exercise and resistance exercise. Studies have shown that both groups of exercises can improve short-term memory function.

Objectives: this research is aimed to compare the effect of aerobic and resistance exercise on short-term memory on healthy adults.

Methods: Participants were given the choice to be admitted into either exercise group, aerobic or resistance. Short-term memory (forward digit span) were measured before and after the intervention.

Vitamin D has an impact on numerous physiological functions such as: bone health, muscle function, inflammatory response, and immune function. Across the globe, reports of cyanobacteria blooms are on the rise. The increasing occurrence of cyanobacteria blooms and cyanotoxins is attributed to phosphorous (P) loading, climate change, among a mix of other factors. While eutrophic lakes have a higher risk of blooms, oligotrophic and mesotrophic lakes are also experiencing blooms. This means governments’ need to develop a robust cyanobacteria management strategy (prevent, control, and mitigate) to protect public health. All-gender housing has become a way for colleges and universities to create affirming spaces for LGBTQ+ students. As of 2022, only about 425 American schools have gender-neutral or all-gender housing programs out of the over 5,000 colleges in the United States. This lack of institutional support leads to trans and gender-nonconforming students reporting feeling less comfortable on their campuses. LGBTQ+ students report high rates of discrimination and harassment on college campuses. Studies about all-gender housing point to structural issues that cause students discomfort and feelings of instability. Homing amblypygids rely on olfactory and tactile information gathered by their antenniform legs to navigate successfully. My project explores the impacts of gender roles and gender identity on psychological wellbeing. Previous research has shown that gender roles are negatively associated with psychological wellbeing, and transgender individuals have lower psychological wellbeing than the cisgender population. Since transgender individuals have had unique experiences with gender roles, it leads to a question of how these individuals have been affected by gender roles. Participants responded to a confidential questionnaire about their experiences with gender roles as they were growing up, their gender incongruence, and their psychological wellbeing.
