Attendance Of College Recreation Centers: An Analysis Of College Recreation Centers Attendance Benefit To College Age Students, Evan Strahan
Master of Education in Applied Human Development Graduate Projects
The purpose of this study is to examine the numerous factors and barriers that would cause an individual to use or not to use their campus recreation center. The results will provide management plans for the service provider based on the secondary data analysis. College recreation facilities are at the center of universities. They are a place where all students are welcome and can use during their free time. There are several reasons a person would go to a recreation center. There is something that everyone can do, which is why it is so important that recreation centers are used …

Book Review: Cultivating Change, Katie Morris
Book Review: Cultivating Change, Katie Morris
International Journal of Playwork Practice
This book explores how disadvantaged teenagers develop emotionally, socially, and academically through hands-on experiences at therapeutic farms. It provides a clear, practical guide to engaging with young people who may be reluctant to interact. It is written in accessible language, free from scientific jargon and presents real-life examples and thought-provoking ideas. The book makes a valuable contribution to the relatively unexplored area of farm-based playwork that playwork practitioners can apply in any setting.

What Is A School Shooting? An Analysis Of School Shooting Incidents From 1994 To 2025, Nevaeh Emerich
What Is A School Shooting? An Analysis Of School Shooting Incidents From 1994 To 2025, Nevaeh Emerich
McNair Scholars Collection
School shootings are a hot topic in the media and an important discussion among citizens of the United States. Despite this, the government does not collect data on school shootings and has left it to lay people, reporters, and researchers to create their own data sources largely culled from media reports. In the present study, I compare two popular datasets, the K-12 School Shooting Database collected by Riedman (2025) and school shootings data collected by reporters at the Washington Post (2025), that claim vastly different numbers of school shooting incidents over time. I examine incidents since the Columbine shootings in …

This study investigated women’s sport athletes’ perceptions of their ability to profit off name, image, and likeness (NIL) as current participants in collegiate athletics. Researchers conducted comprehensive semi-structured interviews with eight women’s sport athletes representing four NCAA Division I member institutions. Participants explained how institutionally organized programmatic educational initiatives primarily codified impermissible forms of NIL compensation while often omitting information about permissible NIL opportunities. Furthermore, participants considered themselves minimally involved in the NIL space, feeling on the low to average side of NIL engagement compared to their athlete-peers competing in men’s sports. The findings of this study are informative for …

Institutions of higher education use Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) codes to categorize and track academic programs. Developed by the National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES), CIP codes are used for various purposes, including data collection, analysis, and reporting (NCES, 2010). Academic administrators can use CIP data to initiate or revise academic curriculum, develop market research for new programs, and reallocate programs. Institutions can establish benchmarks in the form of teaching, research, qualifications, and funding (Knudson, 2016). A survey distributed in November 2022 to members of the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM) revealed less than one percent of …
Reimagining Coach Evaluations: High School Athletic Directors' Perspectives On Program Evaluation Practices, Ashley Gerome
Reimagining Coach Evaluations: High School Athletic Directors' Perspectives On Program Evaluation Practices, Ashley Gerome
Master of Education in Applied Human Development Graduate Projects
High school athletic programs increasingly face the challenge of ensuring coaches not only are technically proficient but also how well the coaches support their student-athletes’ personal growth, well-being, and development. As traditional, performance-focused evaluation models fall short in addressing these broader goals, there is a growing need for more effective, holistic approaches to coaching evaluation. This study explores how athletic leadership is evolving to meet that need, focusing on the shift from results-driven metrics to athlete-centered, developmental evaluation practices. Though interviews with seven athletic directors to understand how coaching experience, professional identity, and evaluation methods affect leadership and program growth. …

The Ultimate Sport Agent, Chidiebere Anugwolu
Master of Education in Applied Human Development Graduate Projects
My earliest interest to become a sports agent was sparked during my four years of work with the Badminton Federation of Nigeria between 2019 - 2022. But even then, I could not say that I really understood what it meant to be called a “Sport Agent”. As the media lead for Badminton Nigeria, I worked closely with national team athletes where I performed media related responsibilities and some marketing. Since the sport of Badminton was not a very lucrative sport, I observed first hand some of the funding challenges the athletes faced to either travel abroad for training tours or …

The Impact Of Social Media Engagement On Fan Loyalty In Professional Sports, Duane Bartnicki
Master of Education in Applied Human Development Graduate Projects
Social media has become an essential tool for communication and interaction in the sports industry, transforming how teams connect with their fans. Platforms like X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram offer dynamic spaces for teams to share content, engage directly with followers, and build online communities. For professional sports organizations, the ability to foster engagement with fans is crucial. It not only enhances the fan experience but also plays a significant role in driving loyalty. It gives organizations an opportunity to understand the motivations, loyalty, and relationships of their fan base through insights gained from social media (Kaya and …

Interculture Marketing From A Multimodal Perspective: Taking Burberry As An Example, Huan Liu, Shaojun Bai
Visions in Leisure and Business
In today's era of globalization and international reach, firms and organizations are actively seeking fresh avenues to grow and broaden their operations, particularly beyond their domestic markets. Achieving success in new markets is not solely dependent on creating a high-quality product, but also effective marketing. This essay takes Burberry as an example, analyzing the influence of culture in intercultural marketing from a multi-modal perspective. The posters for a Chinese New Year marketing campaign lack symmetry and harmony, contrary to Chinese aesthetics. The prominent element does not align with the campaign's purpose. The use of black violates New Year taboos, and …

Visions in Leisure and Business
This article aims to explore the application of visual grammar in a cross-cultural context. Taking the visual grammar performance of electric car advertisements in different cultural backgrounds as an example, it analyzes how visual elements in these advertisements reflect visual grammar from a cross-cultural perspective, focusing on the principles of cross-cultural business communication. Based on the visual grammar theory of Kress and van Leeuwen, this study selected electric vehicle advertising samples from China and the United States and analyzed them using content analysis. The study found that although global electric vehicle advertisements have commonalities in conveying core values such as …

Cross-Cultural Management Strategies Of Chinese Enterprises In Central Asia — A Case Study Of A Shaanxi Agricultural Product Enterprise, Mengyu Dai, Shaojun Bai
Visions in Leisure and Business
Under the guidance of the "Belt and Road" policy, a group of Chinese companies have begun to seek new markets or sources of goods in countries along the route. Central Asia, as an important region among the "Belt and Road" countries, has great appeal to Chinese enterprises. However, different cultures and values pose significant challenges to organizational management. To address these issues, companies place a high emphasis on cross-cultural management strategies, using a range of measures such as salary incentive policies, training local managers, taking on social responsibilities, and through the charisma of leaders to promote cultural identity and integration, …

An Investigation Into Two Mathematics Score Reports: Problem Solving Measure (Psm) And Measurement Of Academic Progress (Map), Benjamin Lawson, Jonathan D. Bostic
Mid-Western Educational Researcher
K-12 teachers and staff need high-quality score reports that accurately report students’ results. However, research about score reports that K-12 teachers and staff use indicates that they infrequently are given opportunities to share feedback to developers. To address this, we gathered feedback from teachers and administrators, in an explanatory sequential design of a mixed-methods study. A purpose of the study was to examine score report quality from two mathematics assessments. Two researchers surveyed in-service professionals (n = 34) about two score reports. Then, we conducted follow-up interviews (n = 6) to further unpack what school personnel find valuable and useful …

Physical Fitness And Nutrition In Collegiate Musical Theater Programs, Alexis Ochi, Amy Morgan Ph.D, Mary-Jon Ludy Ph.D.
Honors Projects
BACKGROUND: Athleticism and physical fitness are often not the first characteristics one identifies when visualizing someone in musical theater. Watching just one performance can make it clear that dancing, acting, running, all while singing and keeping near perfect pitch requires a theater actor to be extremely fit. As well as fitness, nutrition considerations and injury prevention should also be considered due to the high physiological demand placed on these performers. Minimal research has been conducted regarding the fitness and nutritional habits of musical theater performers. PURPOSE: This study investigated the prevalence of discussions about fitness and nutrition in collegiate musical …
