A Lion's Share Of Tourism In The 21st Century, Ray B. Browne
Visions in Leisure and Business
Leisure-time activities and tourism are placing overwhelming demands on society and the environment. In order to meet these demands--or prevent the danger they will bring--we might think of three possible solutions: 1) representative tourism; 2) development of local, ethnic sites; 3) use of educational programs, video and movie presentations given to tourists before they enter a country; and formal courses in Popular Culture Studies as Humanities, which will develop thematically the similarities and differences of and between all people, respect for those differences, and a greater respect for humankind and nature.

Leisure Services Marketing: Quantity Or Quality?, Mark B. Orams
Leisure Services Marketing: Quantity Or Quality?, Mark B. Orams
Visions in Leisure and Business
Marketing has, in recent years, become an integral part of the public leisure service profession, however through adapting marketing practices and techniques an emphasis on providing the most popular recreation opportunities may result. This paper reviews some recent literature on the leisure service marketing process and argues that there is a current bias toward increasing market share and patronage. This bias reduces the importance of a number of "quality" issues which are necessary functions of public leisure service agencies, these include: benefits to participants and society, environmental protection, leisure needs and satisfaction levels and diversity of recreational opportunity. A framework …

Visions in Leisure and Business
This paper compares different attitudes toward experiential impacts on boating, environmental conditions, and proposed management strategies held by permanent residents, seasonal residents and seasonal visitors to the Delaware Inland Bays. The study found variation in opinions held by each group indicating the tourism manager should collect information from all groups before developing policy. Additionally, the manager should understand the varying impacts on boater satisfaction depending upon conditions.

Data which suggest the failure of America's schools to educate its youth do not survive careful scrutiny. School reforms based on these questionable data are wrongheaded and potentially destructive to quality education. Reforms of the kind proposed by those who have started from an assumption that America's schools have failed will exacerbate the differences between the "have" and the "have-not" school districts.

AERA meeting participants were surveyed regarding the relative quality/prestige of various journals in their respective disciplines. Subjects were asked to "rank those journals that you consider to be among the top ten in your discipline ... [those] which you would most like to be published in and/or those in which you expect to find information important to you as an educator and/or researcher." Demographic data, listings of the top five journals for AERA Divisions A-K, and an overall list of the top 10 based on the 572 respondents, are provided.
