The Laughing Buddha: The Education Of Compassionate Leaders Through Improvisational Play, Belinda Chiu Jan 2025

The Laughing Buddha: The Education Of Compassionate Leaders Through Improvisational Play, Belinda Chiu

Journal of Contemplative and Holistic Education

With an urgency to build a generative future, educational systems do not have a choice but to pay attention to how and what we train our future leaders. Yet there is still a gap as leadership studies are often relegated as a “soft” skill, rather than integrated as technical knowledge critical to the holistic effectiveness of a tertiary education. As a result, there is often a disconnect between students immersed in the idealistic bubble of the academy and graduates navigating life outside. Inquiry- and reflective-based methods of contemplative practices may be critical for leaders to avoid short-term, short-sighted decisions that …

Generative Ai In Education: The Policy Gap At Universities In Ohio, Daisy Nevarez Jan 2025

Generative Ai In Education: The Policy Gap At Universities In Ohio, Daisy Nevarez

McNair Scholars Collection

The rise in generative artificial intelligence (AI) usage amongst students across universities has posed significant challenges and questions regarding institutional response and developing policies to ensure ethical application. Investigating how public and private universities in Ohio respond to the expanding integration of AI through curriculum offerings and policy development is significant in examining the gap between AI adoption and institutional policy response. Through analysis, research reveals a widespread lack of transparent, explicit, and enforceable AI policies for students despite high AI usage levels among the university population and the development of AI curricula and programs. While both sectors show policy …

A Learning Pantry: Developing Nutrition Education Materials For Bowling Green State University's Falcon Food Pantry, Madelyn Huzyak

Honors Projects

Food insecurity is a significant problem in the United States, especially among university students. In order to mitigate this issue at Bowling Green State University, the Falcon Food Pantry was established in January 2022. Clients may visit the campus pantry once per week during the regular academic calendar year to select food, hygiene, and household items. In an effort to promote self-efficacy and general nutrition knowledge among the pantry clients, informational materials and corresponding digital versions were created and implemented in the pantry during the Summer 2022 semester. Topics include recipes, nutritional benefits of foods, and strategies for cost-effective food …

Fp-25-07 Same-Sex Married And Cohabiting Couples Raising Children, 2023, Christopher A. Julian

National Center for Family and Marriage Research Family Profiles

Using data from the 2023 American Community Survey (ACS), this Family Profile estimates the proportion of same- and different-sex couples raising children, disaggregated by relationship type (i.e., cohabiting or married) and age (i.e., 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, and 50-59). For this analysis, children are defined as biological, adopted, or stepchildren of the household head1 under the age of eighteen. Couples’ sex composition is coded directly using the recently revised household roster (Kreider & Gurrentz, 2019). To focus on couples raising minor children, we restrict our sample to those in which the younger member is under the age of sixty. This report …

Direct estimates of the age at which half of males and females (who in the last year) married for the first time as well as the associated margins of error are provided. The ACS has been collecting data on marriage since 2008. This profile is an update to previous research on the median age at first marriage (FP-24-08).

Burnout In Youth Sports: A Guide For Parents To Navigate Youth, Sean Rafferty Ii Jan 2025

Burnout In Youth Sports: A Guide For Parents To Navigate Youth, Sean Rafferty Ii

Master of Education in Applied Human Development Graduate Projects

Youth sports have become a territory where the pressure to be the best is more important than enjoying the game and playing for fun. The commercialization of all youth sports has pushed many parents to make their children specialize in one sport at an early age, by putting them in multiple leagues for a single sport and signing up for private lessons. Parents do this because they are told to do so by travel team officials and if they do not, they are judged. This mindset has created unrealistic expectations, convincing parents that their child is going to be an …

It provides a clear, practical guide to engaging with young people who may be reluctant to interact.
