Additional aims included exploring how burnout and grit might differ based on student gender and over time and what relationships might exist between burnout and grit in this population.

Methods: All enrolled third year DPT students (n = 50) at a single physical therapist education program participated in this study. Participants were surveyed using the Maslach Burnout Inventory Human …

Comparing Body Composition Methods For Bowling Green State University’S Air Force Rotc Program, Trey Naylor Jan 2021

Comparing Body Composition Methods For Bowling Green State University’S Air Force Rotc Program, Trey Naylor

Master of Education in Applied Human Development Graduate Projects

In special populations, such as ROTC cadets, body composition is used not only as a predictor of fitness, but also for additional purposes such as qualification for enlistment, load carriage, and duty fulfillment (Johnson et al., 2019). There is great concern that the circumference-based equations used to classify cadets may misclassify service members of more muscular builds as being overweight (Grier et al., 2015). The purpose of this study was to compare multiple body composition methods, including the military’s method of circumference-based measurement, in order to identify a suitable method for Bowling Green State University’s Air Force ROTC program. Participants …

The Test-Retest Reliability And Minimal Detectable Change Of The Fitlight Trainer™, Lauren Myers Jan 2021

The Test-Retest Reliability And Minimal Detectable Change Of The Fitlight Trainer™, Lauren Myers

Master of Education in Applied Human Development Graduate Projects

Reaction time is commonly used as an indicator of cognitive function post-concussion and is an important measurement in return-to-play protocols. Current post-concussion assessments lack evidence regarding their reliability and do not simulate real-world functional movement patterns and choice reactions that occur in sport performance. This study sought to establish the test-retest reliability of the FitLight Trainer™ a novel piece of equipment that can evaluate reaction time in a non-concussed, healthy population. Repeated measures. Twenty-six (14 males, 12 females) healthy individuals (age 20.5 ± 1.8 years, height 171.4 ± 7.5 cm, weight 71 ± 12.7 kg, hand dominance right-23, left-3) from …

The Future And Development Of E-Sports, Zuoyi Chen Jan 2021

The Future And Development Of E-Sports, Zuoyi Chen

Master of Education in Applied Human Development Graduate Projects

E-sports have been growing exponentially since the launch of StartCraft in 1998. Their growth was first observed in South Korea, where the national government incorporated it into the cultural mainstream. South Korea established several e-sports competitions, which encouraged the youth’s widespread acceptance of e-sports. The culture quickly spread to other nations, such as neighboring China. With the proliferation of smartphones, consumption of esports increased in countries such as India and Africa – this technology led to the introduction of e-sports in new regions. The Chinese government was also researching 5G to increase the consumption of e-sports in the country, where …

Perceptions Of Athletic Trainers About The Climate For Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, And Queer (Lgbtq+) Athletes, Rebecca Osan

Master of Education in Applied Human Development Graduate Projects

Background: There is little research done in the environment that the athletic trainer works professionally. It is expected that the findings of this study will contribute toward the dialogue around the importance of inclusion and acceptance of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender athlete in a traditional hostile space. Purpose: The purpose is to explore the climate for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender athletes in the collegiate setting's athletic training facility. Methods: 96 certified athletic trainers were surveyed via email using the Campus Climate survey modified for the sports setting. The survey had 62 items across three sections: demographics, the …

Student-Athletes’ First-Year College Transitions At A Mid-American Conference University: Investigating Stressors In Different Identities And Covid-19, Kristen Kenfield Jan 2021

Student-Athletes’ First-Year College Transitions At A Mid-American Conference University: Investigating Stressors In Different Identities And Covid-19, Kristen Kenfield

Master of Education in Applied Human Development Graduate Projects

According to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), roughly 180,000 studentathletes are making the transition from high school to college in order to have the opportunity to compete in collegiate athletics ("NCAA recruiting fact," 2020). First-year student-athletes face the same transitions that non-student-athletes go through regarding social and academic identity, however, student-athletes have the additional stressor of having an athletic identity (Freeman, 2015; McFarlane, 2014; New, 2015; Skinner, 2004; Smith & Hardin, 2020). An additional transition came in the spring of 2020 with COVID-19 (Bullard, 2020; Roetert et. al., 2020). The purpose of this study was to investigate how the …

Comparison Of Traditional Cardiac Rehabilitation Programs With Intensive Cardiac Rehabilitation Programs On Health Outcomes In Cardiac Patients, Julia Thatcher Jan 2021

Comparison Of Traditional Cardiac Rehabilitation Programs With Intensive Cardiac Rehabilitation Programs On Health Outcomes In Cardiac Patients, Julia Thatcher

Master of Education in Applied Human Development Graduate Projects

Introduction: Cardiovascular disease kills more than 850,000 people in the United States each year and includes numerous disorders such as myocardial infarction, stroke, and heart failure (American Heart Association, 2017; American Heart Association, 2020). Cardiac rehabilitation and secondary prevention programs are used to treat and prevent further instances of cardiovascular disease by implementing exercise, nutrition counseling, psychological and social support, and stress management. Purpose: Improvements in cardiovascular health are often seen after participating in cardiac rehabilitation, but the extent of these improvements may depend on the intensity of the program. This paper reviewed current literature and compared traditional cardiac rehabilitation …

Is It Complicated? Validity Of Personality Interactions For Predicting Performance, Jacob C. Bradburn, Ann Marie Ryan, Anthony Boyce, Tamera Mckinniss, Jason Way Dec 2020

Is It Complicated? Validity Of Personality Interactions For Predicting Performance, Jacob C. Bradburn, Ann Marie Ryan, Anthony Boyce, Tamera Mckinniss, Jason Way

Personnel Assessment and Decisions

Research on personality within the organizational sciences and for employee selection typically focuses on main effects, as opposed to interactive effects between personality variables. Large, multi-organizational datasets involving two different measures of personality were examined to test theoretically driven trait by trait interactions in predicting job performance. Interactive effects of Agreeableness and Conscientiousness, Agreeableness and Extraversion, Extraversion and Conscientiousness, and Emotional Stability and Conscientiousness were hypothesized as predicting overall job performance. However, these hypothesized effects were generally not supported. Implications for personality assessment are discussed.
