A Model Of Training For Outreach To Soldiers At Fort Lewis, Washington, Who Are Inactive Members Of The Churches Of Christ, Mark A. Henry

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Over one hundred and sixty soldiers at Fort Lewis identify themselves as members of the Churches of Christ. Less than twenty-five of these soldiers are involved in any religious activity. In order to reach out effectively to the remaining soldiers, the concerned church members who were interested in this ministry required training. The problem for this project/thesis was to design and implement a model of training for outreach to inactive members of the Churches of Christ at Fort Lewis, Washington.

Doctor of Ministry Theses and Dissertations

For many Christians, biblical authority is rooted in the concept of inerrancy or in the historical veracity. But within a increasingly post-modern culture, the church faces a crisis in both of these foundations. The modern presuppositions that undergird the inerrancy doctrine and the historical-critical method are showing distinct cracks in the once seamless confidence placed in both approaches. Additionally, for Churches of Christ, understandings about the nature and authority of Scripture area just below the surface of a number of issues confronting congregations. This project/thesis seeks to address this growing dilemma within the context of the Westlake Church of Christ …

Fighting For Peaceful Fighting: A Teaching Ministry Moving Church Members From Suppressing To Managing Conflict, Randy Willingham

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study is to develop a seminar that offers a conflictual church an alternative way of managing conflict. The project begins by identifying one church's major obstacles to conflict engagement. These identified obstacles are a rigid theology supporting unhealthy conflict patterns, a high level of anxiety concerning conflict, a lack of skill in addressing conflict because of adaptation to conflict suppression, and a variety of unhealthy habitual responses to conflict.

Pastoral Care At Eastham Prison: A Program For Training Inmates To Help As Peer Counselors, Vance Lawrence Drum

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A training program for training prisoners at a maximum security prison in Texas to do initial pastoral counseling with their peers was developed and taught. Emphases in the program were on theological and biblical foundations for helping and on teaching counseling values and communications skills. A training seminar group and a no-training control group were established to attempt to determine the effectiveness of the training. Each group was comprised of 12 inmates selected by the chaplain using certain criteria. The training program continued for ten two-hour seminars, using an integrated didactic and experiential format.
