Enhancing Shipboard Safety Management Under The Ism Code: An Innovative Risk Assessment Framework With A Stern Tube Case Study, Pi-Yen Lin

The shipboard safety management system (SMS) is designed to enhance safe operations, risk management, and emergency response to improve overall ship safety and efficiency. This paper demonstrates the use of an engine room simulator (ERS) for collecting failure modes and applies it to a comprehensive failure analysis of the stern tube lubricating oil system. A new risk closeness coefficient method was developed, integrating expert background knowledge and weighted risk assessments. The analysis, based on multiple expert evaluations, covered five subsystems, eight main components, 23 failure modes, and 112 failure causes. Internal Medline data for Hospital A, a level I academic trauma center, identified a quality gap due to improper segregation and underutilization of orthopedic single-use device reprocessing bins. The baseline reprocessing rate of 4% for orthopedic products results in missed sustainability opportunities, financial strain, and increased regulated waste. A proposed quality improvement intervention implemented updated communication strategies, visual management tools, and education modules to reinforce current reprocessing workflows and close knowledge gaps. Outcome measures include the percentage of SUDs collected for reprocessing, survey results on reprocessing awareness, and potential financial savings in Appendix I. Purpose – While DEI practices aim to enhance the outcomes of disadvantaged groups, their impact remains uncertain, with disparities often persisting. This paper examines whether the accumulation of DEI practices helps reduce psychological and work disparities between employees, considering both their objective (e.g. gender and race) and subjective (or perceived) (dis)advantage.

DARQ technologies are emerging and cutting-edge technologies, including Distributed Ledger Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Extended Reality and Quantum Computing (hence, DARQ). Increasingly, the success of these initiatives is influenced by environments and interactions beyond organisational boundaries, including recent backlash. Despite this, most DEI research remains focused on intra-organisational aspects and human resource management (HRM) activities. This study is a program evaluation with a mixed-methods design that evaluated the effectiveness of Y Rangers, a summer camp offered by the YMCA of San Francisco, in increasing the self-regulation abilities of school-age children. A total of 18 caregivers completed the quantitative portion of this study that included pre/post-test analyses of self-regulation measures. There were no statistically significant changes between pre and post assessments of self-regulation. A subset of seven caregivers and three Y Rangers counselors participated in interviews, the transcripts of which were analyzed using interpretive phenomenological analysis. White-tailed deer in New Hampshire historically persisted at relatively low densities due to the state’s severe winters that limited populations. However, in 2025 white-tailed deer harvest in the state was the highest on record, marking a remarkable population recovery from a historic low in the early 1980s. Management of deer in New Hampshire must adapt as the state faces new challenges due to increasing suburbanization, milder winters, growing deer densities, and the looming threat of chronic wasting disease.

Interpreting The Trispectrum As The Cross-Spectrum Of The Wigner-Ville Distribution, Aviva Abosch

The fourth-order time-invariant spectrum, or trispectrum, has a simple derivation as the cross-spectrum among frequency bands in the Wigner-Ville distribution (WVD). Viewed this way, the trispectrum gains intuitive meaning as a measure of the linear dependence of power across frequencies, which yields some insight into its structure and interpretation. We highlight, in particular, a two-dimensional subdomain as useful for identifying modulated oscillations when the modulating envelope is non-negative or lowpass. Spectral characteristics of the carrier and modulating signals are revealed along separate axes of a two-dimensional representation of this domain. Stony coral tissue loss disease (SCTLD) affects at least 22 Western Atlantic coral species and presents as focal or multifocal lesions, which swiftly expand across the colony, resulting in rapid tissue loss and mortality. Previous histopathological examinations have noted necrosis, body wall breakage, gastrodermal separation, exocytosis, and vacuolization of the symbiont as pathological signs; however, the same signs are present to some degree in otherwise apparently healthy coral tissues processed for histology. Strategies to address social exclusion often involve promoting social connectedness and a sense of belonging. Drawing from existing literature on social inclusion, social connectedness, and belonging, including the use of primary data, this study explored the experiences of African migrants regarding their sense of connectedness and belonging in Australia. Semi-structured interviews were conducted online with 16 African migrants living in Australia. Using purposive sampling, participants were recruited through community groups across various towns and cities. Sidestep cutting exposes the knee to high multiplanar loads that both challenge tissue capacity and provide an opportunity to develop resilience through progressive exposure. This study investigated task constraints applied at the trunk and preparatory step and changes in lower-body joint kinetics associated with ACL injury risk during sidestepping in female athletes. Twenty-one trained female athletes performed six sidestep conditions: pre-planned and unplanned sidesteps, each with and without trunk (holding ~ 5–7.5% body mass at chest level) and preparatory-step (ducking under an adjustable rope at eye height) constraints.
