Diversity And Disparity In Mammalian Fossil Assemblages Of The John Day Formation, Oregon, Usa, Amanda Wu Peng, Nicholas Anthony Famoso
Geosciences Faculty Publications
The John Day Formation offers a remarkably complete terrestrial record of Eocene-, Oligocene-, and Miocene-aged mammalian faunas in central Oregon. Sites in the John Day Formation have yielded numerous mammalian species spanning across many taxonomic orders, offering a unique opportunity to closely examine changes in mammalian diversity and disparity across a geographically constrained region. However, a comprehensive review of the full diversity and disparity of John Day Formation faunas has not yet been undertaken. In this study, we examine species richness (i.e., taxonomic diversity) alongside morphological disparity in sites in the John Day Formation to assess how these measures vary …
Social Determinants Of Health: Beliefs About Healthcare As A Right Or A Privilege, Dianne Mcadams-Jones
Social Determinants Of Health: Beliefs About Healthcare As A Right Or A Privilege, Dianne Mcadams-Jones
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Nursing education nationwide has integrated Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) into curricula to prepare future healthcare providers to address inequities and improve outcomes. While understanding SDoH is essential for equitable care, nurses’ own beliefs—shaped by personal experiences and environments—can influence practice behaviors and perpetuate disparities (Egede, Walker & Williams, 2024). This qualitative descriptive pilot study explored perceptions of healthcare as a right or privilege, examining how personal beliefs intersect with SDoH and bad science which ultimately impact healthcare outcomes (Bandura, 1971). Using an unstructured survey distributed via email, 110 responses were received, with 64 healthcare professionals and first responders included …

Leveraging Collaboratory Community Assessments To Strategically Guide Service-Learning Projects, Judy L. Gregg
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
The Association of American Colleges and Universities supports high impact practices including service-learning, global learning, research, and collaborative projects resulting in a university participating in a Collaboratory Community Assessment in order to strengthen an established partnership in a remote indigenous village in Guyana.
While most service learning project goals are established by the host, collaboratory projects can improve service-learning outcomes through a community engagement pedagogy that combines learning goals and community service in ways that enhance both student growth and the public good. Collaboratory projects are high-impact practices where teaching, service, and scholarship overlap.

Early life history studies of fishes can be valuable components of monitoring programs for threatened and endangered species. Those studies can be used to characterize spawning periodicity, spawning locations, larval abundance, year-class strength, nursery habitat, and recruitment of larvae to early juvenile and adult populations. Larval fish surveys also increase the probability of documenting rare species due to the large number of larvae produced per pair of spawning adults. Such studies require accurate descriptions and keys for identification of larval fishes in the waters being surveyed.
Leuciscids face many challenges to survival in contemporary riverine systems. River fragmentation, water diversion …

Youth Participation In Kediri, Indonesia: An Urban Communication Perspective, Nissa C. Adinia, Budi Guntoro, Roso Witjaksono
JURNAL KOMUNIKASI INDONESIA
This article examines how young people in a mid-sized Indonesian city participate in producing the meaning of urban space, and how far a participatory communication intervention succeeds in opening dialogue with city stakeholders. Urban communication scholarship has developed primarily around metropolitan cities in the Global North, while participatory communication research often assumes that facilitated dialogue leads to empowerment. This article addresses both gaps through a Photovoice study conducted in Kediri, East Java, involving 37 young people from three social typologies: pelajar (students), santri (Islamic boarding school-affiliated youth), and pekerja/wirausaha (young workers and entrepreneurs). Drawing on Lefebvre’s spatial triad and Couldry’s …
Auctioning The Right To Trust And Reciprocate: Scarcity, Market Allocation, And Selection In The Trust Game, Jason Shachat, J. Todd Swarthout, Yun Wang
Auctioning The Right To Trust And Reciprocate: Scarcity, Market Allocation, And Selection In The Trust Game, Jason Shachat, J. Todd Swarthout, Yun Wang
ESI Working Papers
We examine how competitive allocation of scarce participation rights shapes behavior in a Berg-style trust game. Trustor and trustee roles are allocated through multi-unit uniform-price English auctions with varying scarcity, alongside a matched-fee random-assignment control treatment. Positive transfers and returns persist, but behavior lies near the low-trust, low-reciprocity end of comparable benchmarks. Tighter scarcity accelerates the decline in trustor transfers, while trustee returns show no monotonic pattern. Scarcity strongly raises auction prices without comparably raising participants’ gross trust-game earnings, thereby lowering net earnings. Exit bids adjust to past game profitability, indicating adaptive learning about the value of participation.

Recent years have witnessed renewed interest in how attachment is no longer limited to human figures. Instead, the attachment discourses now also encompass artificial intelligence (AI). Attachment to AI could be caused by a number of factors which could potentially lead to some psychological consequences, hence this new dynamic calls for further in-depth inquiries to understand it better.
To date, no previous study has developed an Indonesian version scale to measure AI attachment that is adequate in terms of its psychometric properties. The primary aim of this study is to demonstrate the adaptation and validation of the attachment to AI …

Disturbance-Learning Inertia Estimation Using Artificial Neural Networks For Power System Stability, Sospeter Igaanja Gabriel, Francis Mwasilu, Peter Makolo Dr.
Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)
ABSTRACT
Power systems are progressively shifting towards low inertia as a result of incorporating significant amounts of intermittent and converter-based renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power, into the current power grid network. This integration poses considerable problems to inertia and frequency control within the network due to a reduction in the proportion of synchronous generators. Furthermore, rapid frequency deviations occur due to the disparity between supply and demand during contingencies, complicating the maintenance of frequency stability within the power system. The disturbance-learning inertia estimation method for power system stability is presented. The simulation analysis is performed using …

The Roberts Court is giving the nation a bad case of constitutional whiplash. Law that was once thought etched in stone is being erased and replaced, with gleeful regularity. Movement conservatives are cheering the rollback of race and gender precedents. Movement liberals are shuddering at every toppled landmark. Meanwhile, lay Americans are starting to wonder when they ceded control over the fabric of their social lives to an elite legal apparatus that cannot be trusted to steer in a straight line. This Article considers whether the Court’s destabilization of the nation’s individual rights architecture might prompt a redistribution of democratic …

Strengthening The Philippines' Agri-Fishery Rde System: A Case Study Of A Public Coordinating Agency As A Bridging Organization, Cynthia Remedios V. De Guia, Luis Rey I. Velasco, Maria Faina L. Diola
Journal of Public Affairs and Development
The Philippine agricultural research, development, and extension (RDE) system has long struggled to live up to its ideals. Decades after the passage of the Agriculture and Fishery Modernization Act (AFMA), the RDE system was reported to have failed to innovate, largely because it failed to translate research into development outcomes. This has resulted from persistent gaps in knowledge exchange, institutional linkages, and collaboration among system actors. In fragmented systems, meaningful interaction and trust seldom emerge spontaneously, making bridging mechanisms necessary. Bridging organizations (BOs) play this role by connecting multiple and diverse actors, mediating relationships, enabling knowledge flows, and enhancing capacities …

Artificial intelligence systems designed around continuous affirmation and minimal friction are becoming increasingly prominent as social and relational partners in everyday life. This article examines how sustained interaction with such frictionless AI systems may reshape the developmental conditions under which social selfhood forms and is maintained. Drawing on Cooley's (1902) looking glass self, Kohut's (1971) concept of optimal frustration, and the developmental literature on social competence, the article argues that frictionless AI may distort the social mirror through which identity forms, remove the manageable frustration that appears necessary for psychological growth, weaken empathic capacity, and erode the social stakes that …

Sharing Toys, Sharing Talks, Sharing Thoughts: Siblings’ Role In Language Skills And Theory Of Mind In Children, Khansa Nabila Anjani, Ike Anggraika Kuntoro
Jurnal Psikologi Sosial
Background: Theory of mind (ToM) refers to the ability to understand one’s own and others’ mental states and is closely related to children’s prosocial behavior. Previous research has linked ToM to language skills and sibling factors; however, findings remain inconsistent. Siblings may function as early social partners who support language use and social–cognitive development, thereby influencing ToM. This study examined whether sibling presence moderates the relationship between language skills and ToM in children. Methods: Participants were 117 children aged 4–7 years from the Jabodetabek area, recruited using convenience sampling. A simple moderation analysis with bootstrapping was conducted. Results …

Bifurcation Dynamics Of A Harvested Predator-Prey Model, Hala H. Emam, Mohamed F. Abouelenein, Mona Anis, M. Y. Hamada, F. A. Atia, H. El-Metwally
Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications
In ecosystems, the harvesting effect is essential to preserving the relationships between prey and predator. This work examines a model of predator-prey in discrete time with harvesting. The Jacobian matrix's eigenvalues are calculated for the associated fixed points. We examine the dynamical and qualitative analysis of this model, look into the criteria for stability and bifurcation, and analyze analytical results that show the rich dynamics and complexity of this model. We give sufficient circumstances for the Period-doubling at the interior equilibrium point by employing the harvesting effect. The discrete system's chaos control is carried out, and the outcomes are supported …

Yield-stress fluids only flow above a critical stress. Here, we observe the emergence of a distinct, elasticity-driven flow state in a yield-stress fluid in the absence of inertia. Numerical simulations show that this elastoplastic turbulent state is characterized by non-Gaussian bimodal velocity distribution and a broad spectrum of velocity and stress fluctuations. Results show a nonmonotonic relationship between the volume fraction of the unyielded flow and plasticity. Surprisingly, the system can fluidize near the emergence of the elastoplastic turbulent state. Our results reveal the complex interplay between elasticity and plasticity in simple shear flows, indicating that plasticity can mobilize the …

This study investigates fingerprint recognition in immigration operations, emphasizing the role of biometric verification in enhancing security, fairness, and operational efficiency in international mobility. To address the uncertainty, vagueness, and imprecision inherent in fingerprint identification, a novel decision-making framework is proposed by integrating interval-valued picture fuzzy (IVPF) information. Fairly aggregation operators are introduced to combine decision makers' evaluations, while extracted fingerprint features are modeled using positive, neutral, and negative membership degrees within the IVPF environment. Objective criterion weights are determined using the criteria importance through intercriteria correlation (CRITIC) method, and individual ranking is performed via the alternative ranking order method …

A Data-Driven Neutrosophic Multi-Criteria Intelligent System For Functional Disability Severity Assessment, Ehab Abdel Aziz Al-Beblawi, Mirna Samy, Abduallah Gamal
Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
Functional disability assessment is a multidimensional problem because individuals may experience different levels of difficulty across daily activities such as walking, standing, dressing, eating, grasping objects, and social participation. This paper proposes NIFDA, a data-driven neutrosophic multi-criteria intelligent system for functional disability severity assessment. The proposed framework represents each functional response through three components: confirmed limitation, indeterminacy, and preserved functional ability. This allows the model to handle valid responses, uncertain information, and missing or non-informative data without forcing them into a single crisp score. To reduce dependence on subjective expert weighting, NIFDA derives criterion weights objectively using a hybrid CRITIC–MEREC …
