Crisis, Reform, And Remittances: A Corridor Level Mixed Methods Examination Of Gcc–Nepal–Sri Lanka (2019–2024), Rubhesh Jha, Aloma Jayasundera

Arab Economic and Business Journal

This study examines how institutions in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Nepal, and Sri Lanka affect migrant earnings, remittance stability, the choice of transfer channels, and the use of remittances for development. This study uses a mixed‑methods approach that integrates institutional mapping, policy tracing, comparative case studies, and quantitative analysis of remittance flows (2019–2024). Migration corridors with stronger institutions are associated with fewer wage disruptions, more stable remittances, and greater use of formal transfer channels, conditional on the observed macroeconomic factors. This study introduces a corridor-level three-pillar institutional framework linking destination wage protection systems (WPS), origin recruitment/welfare, and financial infrastructure …

Beyond Alternative Finance: A Multi-Case Study Of Relational Validation In The Moroccan Crowdfunding Ecosystem Through Signaling And Social Capital Theories, Lamya Bouziani, Jalal Azegagh

Arab Economic and Business Journal

This study examines how Moroccan entrepreneurs use crowdfunding as an alternative source of finance in a context characterized by limited access to traditional funding. Based on a qualitative multi-case design, the research draws on semi-structured interviews with ten entrepreneurs from different sectors and regions in Morocco. The study mobilizes Signaling Theory and Social Capital Theory to explore how entrepreneurs build trust and legitimacy throughout the crowdfunding process. The findings show that crowdfunding is perceived not only as a financing mechanism, but also as a way to overcome banking constraints and institutional limitations. Entrepreneurs rely on personal networks, storytelling, transparency, and …

Financial Pessimism Abounds In Connecticut Amid Widespread Opposition To Tariffs 9/9/2026, Unh Survey Center

All UNH Survey Center Polls

Half of Connecticut residents say they are worse off financially than a year ago, particularly those with lower incomes, and four in ten expect to be worse off a year from now. Most say their cost of living has increased in the past year, especially groceries, gasoline, and energy. State residents are downbeat about the short and long-term futures of the state and national economies, with majorities expecting a recession within the next year in both economies. A majority of Connecticut residents disapprove of President Trump's use of tariffs and believe they will have a negative effect on the U.S. …

Re-Evaluating Seagrass Ecosystem Services: Integrating Community Gleaning And Cultural Values Into Economic Valuation In Selayar Island, Indonesia, Hendriyadi Bahtiar Daeng Sila, Rohani Ambo-Rappe, Mahatma Lanuru, Sebastian C.A. Ferse Sep 2026

Re-Evaluating Seagrass Ecosystem Services: Integrating Community Gleaning And Cultural Values Into Economic Valuation In Selayar Island, Indonesia, Hendriyadi Bahtiar Daeng Sila, Rohani Ambo-Rappe, Mahatma Lanuru, Sebastian C.A. Ferse

Forest and Society

Dominant marine conservation and blue economy paradigms systematically prioritize biophysical metrics, such as biodiversity or carbon sequestration, frequently rendering the cultural and subsistence values of coastal communities invisible. This study contests these biophysically-centered frameworks by applying a holistic valuation approach to seagrass meadows at the Selayar Archipelago, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Utilizing the Common International Classification of Ecosystem Services (CICES) framework as an instrument for recognition of cultural values, we applied participatory methodologies to evaluate the relational values embedded in traditional gleaning—the small-scale, intertidal harvesting of marine invertebrates (a'sulo/ngatti-ngatti). The findings reveal a socio-economic and cultural reality …

Stress-Driven Two-Phase Nonlocal Model For Nanobars Embedded In Elastic Substrates With Surface Effects, Suchart Limkatanyu, Worathep Sae-Long, Piti Sukontasukkul, Amorn Pimanmas, Preeda Chaimahawan Sep 2026

Stress-Driven Two-Phase Nonlocal Model For Nanobars Embedded In Elastic Substrates With Surface Effects, Suchart Limkatanyu, Worathep Sae-Long, Piti Sukontasukkul, Amorn Pimanmas, Preeda Chaimahawan

Babylonian Journal of Mechanical Engineering

This paper develops a nonlocal bar–substrate medium model to study the axial (longitudinal) response of nanobars embedded in an elastic foundation. Small-scale behavior is represented through a two-phase mixture, stress-driven, nonlocal integral formulation. To reflect the surrounding medium and surface-related size effects, the Winkler foundation and the Gurtin–Murdoch surface elasticity framework are incorporated, respectively. The local bar–substrate governing differential equilibrium equation (GDEE) and associated boundary conditions (BCs) are first obtained via the virtual displacement principle, and the resulting local formulation is then generalized to the nonlocal setting using the adopted two-phase mixture model. The proposed framework is assessed through three …

Mechanics-Guided Ann Prediction Of Laminated Composite Beam Response, Fadi Alfaqs, Jamil Haddad Sep 2026

Mechanics-Guided Ann Prediction Of Laminated Composite Beam Response, Fadi Alfaqs, Jamil Haddad

Babylonian Journal of Mechanical Engineering

This study develops a mechanics-guided surrogate framework for the harmonic response of a simply supported, eight-ply Graphite/Epoxy beam. A shear-deformation formulation provides the physical interpretation, three-dimensional ANSYS models using SOLID186 elements supply the numerical responses, and feedforward neural networks approximate mid-span deflection, maximum axial normal stress and maximum interlaminar shear stress. The applied 1000 N load is evaluated through a 1–500 Hz excitation-frequency sweep; the forcing frequency is independent of the beam's natural frequencies. Each response dataset contains 1800 finite-element records covering 300 frequencies and six fibre orientations. Twenty L-BFGS bootstrap networks with two 10-neuron hidden layers were fitted per …

Joy For Whom? Joy To What End? The Promise And Peril Of Joy-Centred Pedagogy, Mays Imad, Karla Clark , Ed.D, Constanza Barthololmae Sep 2026

Joy For Whom? Joy To What End? The Promise And Peril Of Joy-Centred Pedagogy, Mays Imad, Karla Clark , Ed.D, Constanza Barthololmae

Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE)

In this essay, we trouble the notion of joy in teaching and learning. We trouble it because we do not want to offer another status quo, shiny intervention grounded in hegemonic hierarchy. We trouble it because we want to explore how to co-narrate joy in a way that lets us, our colleagues, and our students realize our “magical” capacity, to borrow Sylvia Wynter’s word. Writing as three educators in a single analytic voice, with first-person narratives in which our standpoints diverge, we ask: joy for whom, to what end, and at what cost? We enter through the debate over generative …

Why Was I Stopped? How Police Encounters Shape The Perceptions Of Black Adults, Darilyn Anita Monk Sep 2026

Why Was I Stopped? How Police Encounters Shape The Perceptions Of Black Adults, Darilyn Anita Monk

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Racial disparities in police encounters persist in Illinois, where Black adults are disproportionately subjected to investigatory stops despite ongoing oversight efforts. This study examined how citizens affected by these stops experienced and interpreted these encounters. The participants were seven Black adults from Lake County, Illinois. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis revealed racial profiling and discrimination as central, structuring features of police interactions. Participants described being stopped without clear justification, subjected to heightened suspicion, and treated as presumptively criminal. These encounters were understood not as isolated incidents but as patterned practices, producing mistrust, anxiety, and diminished perceptions of …

Practitioners’ Perceptions: Evidence-Based Practices And Evidence-Based Interventions To Reduce Burnout In Third-Sector Organizations, Elizabeth Riley Sep 2026

Practitioners’ Perceptions: Evidence-Based Practices And Evidence-Based Interventions To Reduce Burnout In Third-Sector Organizations, Elizabeth Riley

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Third-sector organizations (TSOs) face challenges providing effective evidence in reducing stress and burnout for human services professionals (HSPs) to remain in the field. Burnout is a social phenomenon that has received much attention in the helping professions for the past 50 years, due to the nature of the work that HSPs perform. Researchers have confirmed that HSPs are at critical risk of burnout, which affects not only their health and work performance, but also their delivery of service. Current literature lacks studies on what supports HSPs’ need in TSOs to reduce their stress and burnout to remain in the field. …

Development Of An Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guideline For Glp-1 Medication Management And Weight-Loss Monitoring In Adults, Jeannette Mariela Pena

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This doctor of nursing practice project addressed the lack of a standardized clinical practice guideline for glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1)-based medication management and weight-loss monitoring in an outpatient functional health setting. The purpose was to develop an evidence-based guideline to improve provider consistency, patient education, monitoring, documentation, and treatment safety for adults receiving GLP-1-based weight-management therapy. The Johns Hopkins Evidence-Based Practice Model guided question development, evidence appraisal, synthesis, translation, and implementation planning. The guideline incorporated evidence related to adult obesity management, GLP-1-based pharmacotherapy, lifestyle intervention, eligibility assessment, medication selection and titration, adverse-effect monitoring, follow-up, and documentation. Three content experts—a nurse practitioner …

Exploring Rural And Non-Rural Disparities In Interpersonal Violence And Help Seeking Barriers Among North Dakota Women, Tahmid Hassan Jeeshan, Ashley K. Fansher Sep 2026

Exploring Rural And Non-Rural Disparities In Interpersonal Violence And Help Seeking Barriers Among North Dakota Women, Tahmid Hassan Jeeshan, Ashley K. Fansher

Criminal Justice Posters and Presentations

Interpersonal violence extends beyond physical assault to include psychological and/or emotional abuse that can produce substantial physical and mental health consequences. Unfortunately, rates of violence have not been directly studied among residents of North Dakota. In this study, we compare victimization patterns, treatment seeking behaviors, and barriers to treatment among North Dakotan women. We anticipate that rural victims will report more severe or chronic victimization yet face reduced access to and use of healthcare and victim services. By jointly considering violence type, rural versus non-rural status, and treatment seeking, this project highlights differences between rural and non-rural residents and identifies …

Instagram Marketing And Purchase Intentions In Malaysian Fashion Startups: The Mediating Role Of Online Consumer Engagement And Price Agreeableness, Chang Hao Han, Nelson Zee Yang Wong, Hoong Tat Teh Sep 2026

Instagram Marketing And Purchase Intentions In Malaysian Fashion Startups: The Mediating Role Of Online Consumer Engagement And Price Agreeableness, Chang Hao Han, Nelson Zee Yang Wong, Hoong Tat Teh

Jesselton Journal of Educators and Scholars

This study looks into how social media marketing campaigns run by Malaysian fashion startups on Instagram affect online consumer engagement, purchase intentions, and consumers' agreeableness toward the prices set by these brands. We conceptualized social media marketing campaigns as a second-order construct with four key dimensions: sharing, interactivity, popularity, and personalization. Consumer engagement, meanwhile, was captured through three behavioral dimensions: consuming, contributing, and co-creating brand-related content. Methodologically, we employed a quantitative single-method design. Data were gathered via an English-language online questionnaire, distributed from October 2023 to February 2024 to Malaysian Instagram users who followed fashion startup brands. After screening and …

All Decisions

Landlord failed to serve a timely itemized statement of deposit deductions under GOL § 7-108(1-a)(e), but court declines to order a full refund. Applying the small claims "substantial justice" standard, court weighs tenant's own conduct — vacating mid-month without paying the remaining rent — against landlord's statutory non-compliance. Finding fault on both sides, court orders return of half the deposit only.

4912 Management Inc. V. Duran

All Decisions

Court grants tenant's motion for partial summary judgment on affirmative defense, ordering that landlord is barred from collecting 15 months of rent covered by ERAP provisional approval. Landlord failed to provide OTDA the information necessary to receive ERAP payments within the required statutory timeframe, thereby waiving the covered rent under the 2021 ERAP statute. ERAP has since closed and no funds remain. Court rejects landlord's claim of ignorance of the provisional approval.

Metastatic Proinsulin-Secreting Tumor: A Rare Cause Of Persistent Hypoglycemia, Robert J. Heins, John Yazji, Philip Eber, Stefanie Furlan Sep 2026

Metastatic Proinsulin-Secreting Tumor: A Rare Cause Of Persistent Hypoglycemia, Robert J. Heins, John Yazji, Philip Eber, Stefanie Furlan

Student Publications

Proinsulin-secreting neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are a rare cause of severe hypoglycemia, characterized by normal or low insulin levels and disproportionate elevations of proinsulin. Clinical features and optimal management of unresectable cases remain poorly defined, in part due to such few cases described in the literature. We describe a 47-year-old female with metastatic large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma who presented with obstructive jaundice and was incidentally found to have profound, asymptomatic fasting hypoglycemia. Initial insulin and C-peptide levels were within reference ranges, but proinsulin concentrations were markedly elevated. The patient developed recurrent, refractory hypoglycemia requiring high-dose corticosteroids, glucagon, diazoxide, octreotide, and ultimately central-line …

The Art And Science Of Head Nerve Blocks In Urgent Care Settings., Zoë M Rushetsky, Grace E Lynch, Bhavik Singh, Ambika Jokhulall, Donald Penney

PCOM Scholarly Works

The purpose of this review is to describe the role of regional scalp nerve blocks as an alternative to direct local infiltration for head and scalp laceration repair in emergency and urgent care settings, where tissue swelling from infiltration can obscure landmarks and complicate wound closure. Methods included a narrative review of published studies and procedural descriptions focusing on scalp sensory anatomy, nerve block techniques, anesthetic selection, and safety considerations, along with the development of simplified illustrations and surface-landmark images tailored to outpatient clinicians. Results demonstrate that regional scalp blocks reliably provide effective anesthesia with less tissue distortion and lower …
