Financial Pessimism Abounds In Connecticut Amid Widespread Opposition To Tariffs 9/9/2026, Unh Survey Center

All UNH Survey Center Polls

Half of Connecticut residents say they are worse off financially than a year ago, particularly those with lower incomes, and four in ten expect to be worse off a year from now. Most say their cost of living has increased in the past year, especially groceries, gasoline, and energy. State residents are downbeat about the short and long-term futures of the state and national economies, with majorities expecting a recession within the next year in both economies. A majority of Connecticut residents disapprove of President Trump's use of tariffs and believe they will have a negative effect on the U.S. …

Why Was I Stopped? How Police Encounters Shape The Perceptions Of Black Adults, Darilyn Anita Monk Sep 2026

Why Was I Stopped? How Police Encounters Shape The Perceptions Of Black Adults, Darilyn Anita Monk

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Racial disparities in police encounters persist in Illinois, where Black adults are disproportionately subjected to investigatory stops despite ongoing oversight efforts. This study examined how citizens affected by these stops experienced and interpreted these encounters. The participants were seven Black adults from Lake County, Illinois. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis revealed racial profiling and discrimination as central, structuring features of police interactions. Participants described being stopped without clear justification, subjected to heightened suspicion, and treated as presumptively criminal. These encounters were understood not as isolated incidents but as patterned practices, producing mistrust, anxiety, and diminished perceptions of …

Practitioners’ Perceptions: Evidence-Based Practices And Evidence-Based Interventions To Reduce Burnout In Third-Sector Organizations, Elizabeth Riley

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Third-sector organizations (TSOs) face challenges providing effective evidence in reducing stress and burnout for human services professionals (HSPs) to remain in the field. Burnout is a social phenomenon that has received much attention in the helping professions for the past 50 years, due to the nature of the work that HSPs perform. Researchers have confirmed that HSPs are at critical risk of burnout, which affects not only their health and work performance, but also their delivery of service. Current literature lacks studies on what supports HSPs’ need in TSOs to reduce their stress and burnout to remain in the field. …

Development Of An Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guideline For Glp-1 Medication Management And Weight-Loss Monitoring In Adults, Jeannette Mariela Pena

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This doctor of nursing practice project addressed the lack of a standardized clinical practice guideline for glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1)-based medication management and weight-loss monitoring in an outpatient functional health setting. The purpose was to develop an evidence-based guideline to improve provider consistency, patient education, monitoring, documentation, and treatment safety for adults receiving GLP-1-based weight-management therapy. The Johns Hopkins Evidence-Based Practice Model guided question development, evidence appraisal, synthesis, translation, and implementation planning. The guideline incorporated evidence related to adult obesity management, GLP-1-based pharmacotherapy, lifestyle intervention, eligibility assessment, medication selection and titration, adverse-effect monitoring, follow-up, and documentation. Three content experts—a nurse practitioner …

Separation Of Ferric Ions From Waste Aqueous Solution Using Solvent Extraction/Precipitation Process With Deep Eutectic Solvents And Resonant Accoustic Mixing, Frank Agyemang Sep 2026

Separation Of Ferric Ions From Waste Aqueous Solution Using Solvent Extraction/Precipitation Process With Deep Eutectic Solvents And Resonant Accoustic Mixing, Frank Agyemang

Honors Theses

The problem of ferric ions (Fe³⁺) in industrial wastewater is a critical issue for several sectors, such as mining, electronic plating, and metal finishing, due to both its environmental and economic impact. Traditional treatment methods using energy-intensive procedures and unsafe organic solvents are not in compliance with sustainability, but can succeed in achieving a valid metal recycling. By utilizing deep eutectic solvents (DES) and resonant vibratory mixing technology, an environmental friendly method is developed to selectively extract/precipitate ferric ions from waste aqueous solutions. Deep eutectic solvents (DES) have been developed to replace common organic solvents, representing environmental friendly alternatives with …

Exploring Rural And Non-Rural Disparities In Interpersonal Violence And Help Seeking Barriers Among North Dakota Women, Tahmid Hassan Jeeshan, Ashley K. Fansher Sep 2026

Exploring Rural And Non-Rural Disparities In Interpersonal Violence And Help Seeking Barriers Among North Dakota Women, Tahmid Hassan Jeeshan, Ashley K. Fansher

Criminal Justice Posters and Presentations

Interpersonal violence extends beyond physical assault to include psychological and/or emotional abuse that can produce substantial physical and mental health consequences. Unfortunately, rates of violence have not been directly studied among residents of North Dakota. In this study, we compare victimization patterns, treatment seeking behaviors, and barriers to treatment among North Dakotan women. We anticipate that rural victims will report more severe or chronic victimization yet face reduced access to and use of healthcare and victim services. By jointly considering violence type, rural versus non-rural status, and treatment seeking, this project highlights differences between rural and non-rural residents and identifies …

Instagram Marketing And Purchase Intentions In Malaysian Fashion Startups: The Mediating Role Of Online Consumer Engagement And Price Agreeableness, Chang Hao Han, Nelson Zee Yang Wong, Hoong Tat Teh

Jesselton Journal of Educators and Scholars

This study looks into how social media marketing campaigns run by Malaysian fashion startups on Instagram affect online consumer engagement, purchase intentions, and consumers' agreeableness toward the prices set by these brands. We conceptualized social media marketing campaigns as a second-order construct with four key dimensions: sharing, interactivity, popularity, and personalization. Consumer engagement, meanwhile, was captured through three behavioral dimensions: consuming, contributing, and co-creating brand-related content. Methodologically, we employed a quantitative single-method design. Data were gathered via an English-language online questionnaire, distributed from October 2023 to February 2024 to Malaysian Instagram users who followed fashion startup brands. After screening and …

All Decisions

Landlord failed to serve a timely itemized statement of deposit deductions under GOL § 7-108(1-a)(e), but court declines to order a full refund. Applying the small claims "substantial justice" standard, court weighs tenant's own conduct — vacating mid-month without paying the remaining rent — against landlord's statutory non-compliance. Finding fault on both sides, court orders return of half the deposit only.

All Decisions

Court grants tenant's motion for partial summary judgment on affirmative defense, ordering that landlord is barred from collecting 15 months of rent covered by ERAP provisional approval. Landlord failed to provide OTDA the information necessary to receive ERAP payments within the required statutory timeframe, thereby waiving the covered rent under the 2021 ERAP statute. ERAP has since closed and no funds remain. Court rejects landlord's claim of ignorance of the provisional approval.

Metastatic Proinsulin-Secreting Tumor: A Rare Cause Of Persistent Hypoglycemia, Robert J. Heins, John Yazji, Philip Eber, Stefanie Furlan

Student Publications

Proinsulin-secreting neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are a rare cause of severe hypoglycemia, characterized by normal or low insulin levels and disproportionate elevations of proinsulin. Clinical features and optimal management of unresectable cases remain poorly defined, in part due to such few cases described in the literature. We describe a 47-year-old female with metastatic large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma who presented with obstructive jaundice and was incidentally found to have profound, asymptomatic fasting hypoglycemia. Initial insulin and C-peptide levels were within reference ranges, but proinsulin concentrations were markedly elevated. The patient developed recurrent, refractory hypoglycemia requiring high-dose corticosteroids, glucagon, diazoxide, octreotide, and ultimately central-line …

Amorphous Calcium Phosphate Maintains Casein Microarchitecture While Modulating Bacterial Growth Kinetics, Vuk Uskoković, Michael Ibba, Lorenzo Eugenio Leiva

Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Sciences Faculty Articles and Research

Casein, the primary source of protein in ruminant milk, represents a family of proteins that self-assemble into globules composed of finer spherical subunits and stabilized by calcium phosphate (CP) nanoparticles. These globules act as holdase-type chaperones for unfolded or partially folded proteins, preventing their aggregation. Simultaneously, by integrating CP nanoparticles, they enable the bioavailability of calcium and phosphate beyond their solubility limits, thereby enhancing the nutritional value of milk. Using a range of physicochemical and biological characterization techniques, including scanning and transmission electron microscopy, organic and inorganic elemental analyses, SDS-PAGE, and vibrational, UV/Vis and NMR spectroscopies, it is demonstrated that …
