God Save The Keen: Designing For Authentic Over Artificial Learning, Heather J. Leslie Phd Sep 2026

God Save The Keen: Designing For Authentic Over Artificial Learning, Heather J. Leslie Phd

Learning Design Center: Staff Scholarship

While AI has put the transactional model of schooling on steroids, I argue that AI is not the only artificial aspect of education. Grades are an artificial barrier towards authentic learning which decades of research have shown negatively impact intrinsic motivation, intellectual risk-taking, and depth of thinking. In this article, I explore what instructors can do to design authentic learning to center the human learner, not the AI.

Parental Perceptions Of Censorship In Utah: Working Paper, Rachel L. Wadham, Dallyn Edmunds Sep 2026

Parental Perceptions Of Censorship In Utah: Working Paper, Rachel L. Wadham, Dallyn Edmunds

Faculty Publications

The rapid rise of book challenges and removals in U.S. school libraries has increasingly been justified through appeals to parental rights, yet relatively little research has explored what parents themselves believe about censorship and book removal. This exploratory qualitative study examined Utah parents’ perceptions of censorship in school libraries, the kinds of content they believe should be restricted, and the reasoning underlying those beliefs. Using a grounded theory-informed thematic analysis approach, data were collected through a survey of 319 Utah parents with children enrolled in public schools. The survey combined closed-ended and open-ended questions, allowing participants to articulate their views …

Identification Of At-Risk Rail Network Segments And Development Of Fragility-Based Resilience Metrics, Haizhong Wang, Brian M. Staes, Benyamin Ghoreishi

Mineta Transportation Institute

This report presents a multi-hazard risk and resilience assessment of the U.S. rail network. The research identifies at-risk rail segments exposed to flash flooding, riverine flooding, extreme heat, and landslides using historical hazard records, federal accident and incident data, and meteorological datasets spanning 2000–2024. Flood exposure is mapped nationally by linking storm records to rail alignments and estimating the frequency and intensity of events at the segment level. For extreme heat, a fragility analysis of 153 documented thermal buckling derailments reveals that a significant share of failures occurred under relatively mild environmental conditions, pointing to infrastructure and maintenance factors rather …

The Role Of Nurses In Interprofessional Pharmaceutical Care: A Qualitative Descriptive Study Of International Expert Perspectives, Marko Petrovic, Mirko Prosen

Individual Articles

Introduction: Pharmaceutical care has evolved from a pharmacist-led model to an interprofessional approach involving doctors, pharmacists, and nurses. Effective collaboration is key to patient safety and treatment optimisation, yet it is often hindered by hierarchical systems, unclear roles, and poor communication. A lack of formalised frameworks further limits collaboration.

Aim: This study explores interprofessional collaboration in pharmaceutical care, focusing on the role of nurses, their involvement in collaborative practice, and the competencies essential for effective teamwork as identified by international experts.

Methods: A qualitative study using semi-structured interviews was conducted with five international experts, selected through purposive sampling. Data were …

“I Was Not Wonder Woman And Required Help”: Black, Latina, And White Women’S Recovery From The Covid-19 Pandemic, J. Mitchell Vaterlaus, Colton Pierce, Harry Foster, Alison Brennan, Nicole Wanago

Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences

The COVID-19 pandemic disproportionately affected women, particularly women of color, yet less is known about their recovery experiences following the end of the public health emergency. This exploratory mixed-methods study examined recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic among Black, Latina, and White women in the United States. Participants (N = 133) completed a survey that included a self-reported recovery measure and open-ended questions regarding their recovery experiences. A chi-square analysis indicated a significant association between race/ethnicity and recovery status, with Latina women more likely to report ongoing recovery than Black and White women. Codebook thematic analysis identified four themes: (1) …

"How Do I Design My Law Course?": A Quick Guide For New Professors, Steven Arrigg Koh Sep 2026

"How Do I Design My Law Course?": A Quick Guide For New Professors, Steven Arrigg Koh

Faculty Scholarship

How do professors start teaching law? This question is a particular challenge for new law professors, who often lack resources for course design. Written from the perspective of a recently tenured law professor, this Essay offers four major categories of decisions: semester structure, classroom, final exam, and “professorial personality.” It argues that, for each decision, reasonable minds can differ. This Essay also provides some personal reflections on the decision-making to illustrate how one professor might weigh various considerations in course design. A final Appendix is a checklist for new professors.

Albert Goodman Housing Development Fund Corp. V. Brown Sep 2026

Albert Goodman Housing Development Fund Corp. V. Brown

All Decisions

Petitioner moves to vacate an ERAP stay and restore this 2022 nonpayment proceeding to the calendar after receiving a $12,114 ERAP payment in April 2024, asserting $25,833 remains due through May 2026. Court denies restoration under the four-prong test of 22 NYCRR §208.14(c): (1) no meritorious cause of action, as the ledger includes arrears predating respondent's tenancy—rent from 2018–2019, two years before his 2021 lease commenced; (2) no reasonable excuse for delay, given that ERAP was paid in April 2024 but the motion was not filed until May 2026; (3) restoration would prejudice respondent by forcing him to defend arrears …

2700 Jerome Avenue Lihtc Llc V. Jean Sep 2026

2700 Jerome Avenue Lihtc Llc V. Jean

All Decisions

Respondent, a Section 8 voucher holder whose monthly tenant share is covered by HRA shelter checks paid directly to petitioner, moved to dismiss on the ground that the predicate rent demand is defective. Comparison of petitioner's demand against HRA payment records and petitioner's own rent ledger shows the demand failed to credit earmarked HRA payments—inflating the claimed arrears to roughly twice the actual balance due at the time. Court grants dismissal under RPAPL §711(2): a rent demand must set forth a good-faith approximation of rent owed and cannot be amended; ignoring credited agency payments denies respondent a fair opportunity to …
