Survey Results Of Dnp Faculty To Guide Faculty Development Priorities At Two Large Universities, Gina C. Rowe, Deborah O'Briant

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Since 2010, DNP programs in the U.S. have grown from 156 programs with almost 7000 students in 2010 to 394 programs with over 40,000 students in 2021.(1,2) This rapid growth in new DNP programs has resulted in considerable variability in DNP program structure and curricula (3,4). Many DNP and PhD prepared faculty do not feel confident in guiding DNP students to complete DNP scholarly projects and have expressed a need for more resource support and mentoring.(3,5) The primary purpose of the study was to create baseline data on faculty knowledge and learning needs to guide faculty development efforts for those …

Supporting The Academic Success Of Undergraduate Nursing Students Through Peer Mentoring, Kate Fayer, Jill Campbell, Erin Higley Sep 2026

Supporting The Academic Success Of Undergraduate Nursing Students Through Peer Mentoring, Kate Fayer, Jill Campbell, Erin Higley

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

The profession of nursing is incredibly demanding requiring extensive knowledge, clinical skills, and experience to develop the clinical judgment necessary to provide safe and effective patient care. According to Wang et al.1, undergraduate nursing students describe higher levels of stress and stress-related symptoms than the general student population. This increased level of stress is one of the most significant barriers facing undergraduate nursing students ability to complete their studies1-3. A peer mentoring program with undergraduate nursing students can help alleviate the adverse effects of stress and improve their overall academic performance1,4-5.

Perceptions Of Ai Caring Behaviors Among University Students In Kenya And The United States, Rachel W. Kimani, Rose Maina Sep 2026

Perceptions Of Ai Caring Behaviors Among University Students In Kenya And The United States, Rachel W. Kimani, Rose Maina

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

As AI tools increasingly mediate health communication, questions arise about whether users perceive these systems as capable of relational behaviors such as caring, empathy, or emotional support. Existing scholarship emphasizes accuracy and safety, yet little is known about how the emotional tone of AI communication, caring versus neutral, shapes user perceptions across cultural contexts.

This research-in-progress pilot examines how college students in the United States and Kenya interpret caring-tone and neutral-tone AI responses in health scenarios. Using a 2 (Tone: Caring vs. Neutral) × 2 (Health Context: Mental vs. Physical) × 2 (Site: U.S. vs. Kenya) mixed factorial vignette design, …

Fostering Translational Nursing Research Through Academic-Health System Partnerships, Monique Bouvier, Sharon Sonenblum Sep 2026

Fostering Translational Nursing Research Through Academic-Health System Partnerships, Monique Bouvier, Sharon Sonenblum

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Nursing research often presents a disconnect between academic inquiry and the immediate needs of frontline clinical practice. Funding cycles can delay addressing emergent patient care challenges, and academically driven research questions may not always yield direct, value-added solutions for nursing workflows. To mitigate this gap, we initiated a novel program designed to foster collaboration between academic researchers and frontline clinical staff, facilitated by a clinically-based nurse scientist.

This initiative strategically brings academics to the point of care to gain firsthand insights into pressing clinical problems, and conversely, convenes clinical experts with academic counterparts to articulate real-world research priorities. This collaborative …

Virtual Reality Simulation Prebrief: Promoting Psychological Safety And Clinical Reasoning, Holldrid Odreman, Ryan Mcnally, Christian Baltus

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

A review of the simulation literature highlights the need to further understand the relationship between psychological safety and students’ clinical performance. Guided by Situated Learning Theory, this study aimed to determine to what extent there were differences in the experience of psychological safety and the performance of clinical judgement between three different pre-briefing techniques. Situated learning theory purports that learning is experienced within an individual's environment which is supported by the individual's active participation and shared with others. Therefore, as the collaboration and interaction between learner and educator during a pre-briefing activity increase, the level of support for learning and …

Listening To The Society Of Yeager Scholars: An Interpretive Companion For Institutional Memory And Strategic Reflection, Brian A. Hoey

Publications of the Honors College at Marshall University

Listening to the Society of Yeager Scholars is an interpretive companion for institutional memory and strategic reflection. Rather than offering a definitive history of the Society of Yeager Scholars or prescribing its future direction, the document reads the Society as an institution with a culture—one shaped over nearly four decades through educational purposes, relationships, traditions, expectations, and changing interpretations of what the Society is and should be.

Drawing on early oral histories, Alison Gerlach’s history of the Society’s first thirteen years, contemporary accounts, institutional records, strategic-planning materials, and sustained institutional experience, the document identifies recurring ways participants have understood the …

STEM for Success Resources

Applying Lonergan’S Method To A First Year Seminar Reflective Essay, Fr. John Thompson Sep 2026

Applying Lonergan’S Method To A First Year Seminar Reflective Essay, Fr. John Thompson

San Jose - Lonergan Chair in Catholic Philosophy

Reflection on past experiences is crucial to spiritual and emotional growth.  Often times students in college do not spend enough time reflecting deeply on their experiences and as a result they do not realize the profundity of an event or experience for their overall life or for a sense of belonging to the University community.  Lonergan provides us with a framework for how we come to insight to make a decision about our experiences.  The process includes naming the experience, understanding the experience, making a judgement about the experience and concludes with a decision about the experience.  While stages may …

Epistemic Resilience As A Media Literacy Goal: Moving Beyond Detection In The Age Of Generative Ai, Author Information Removed Sep 2026

Epistemic Resilience As A Media Literacy Goal: Moving Beyond Detection In The Age Of Generative Ai, Author Information Removed

JMLE Submissions Open for Review

Generative AI, encompassing large language models, image generators, and voice synthesis tools, has transformed the information landscape in ways that extend well beyond the production of fabricated content. By undermining the evidentiary signals through which individuals and communities have historically calibrated epistemic trust, it poses a structural challenge to existing media literacy frameworks. These frameworks, built around a “detect-and-debunk” paradigm, equip learners to identify false content through source verification, fact-checking, and evidence evaluation. These skills remain valuable but rest on assumptions that generative AI has rendered progressively less tenable. This article proposes “epistemic resilience” as a complementary goal: the cultivated …

Online Humiliation And Audience Responsibility In Adolescent Media Literacy Education, Author Information Removed Sep 2026

Online Humiliation And Audience Responsibility In Adolescent Media Literacy Education, Author Information Removed

JMLE Submissions Open for Review

Online humiliation raises an educational problem that extends beyond identifying harmful messages: audience participation can make another person's embarrassment socially rewarding. This essay develops an argument for teaching responsibility for reactions and redistribution. Five student quotations reported in a Ghanaian doctoral manuscript illustrate tensions between recognition, joking, unwanted exposure and silent disagreement. They inform a conceptual discussion rather than a new analysis of focus-group transcripts. Drawing on scholarship on adolescent peer relations, bystander behaviour and media literacy, the essay distinguishes interpreting a message from judging what one's participation does to others. It proposes a classroom sequence using fictional exchanges to …

Adolescent Vulnerability To Disinformation, Polarisation, Filter Bubbles And Echo Chambers: A Systematic Review With Implications For Media Literacy Education, Author Information Removed

JMLE Submissions Open for Review

Disinformation, polarisation, filter bubbles and echo chambers pose growing risks to adolescents, as they are a group that consumes large amounts of information via social media. This paper presents a systematic review, following the PRISMA method, of the available empirical evidence on these risks among adolescents. Twelve empirical studies, published between 2019 and 2025, and collected from Web of Science and Scopus, were analysed. The results evidence that disinformation is the best-documented risk, whilst polarisation receives only marginal coverage and there is no direct empirical evidence regarding filter bubbles and echo chambers. Adolescents’ vulnerability is not uniform: it depends on …

Hybrid Deep-Machine Learning For Butterfly Species Image Classification, Maha A. Rajab, Wisal Hashim Abdulsalam, Firas A. Abdullatif, Tole Sutikno Sep 2026

Hybrid Deep-Machine Learning For Butterfly Species Image Classification, Maha A. Rajab, Wisal Hashim Abdulsalam, Firas A. Abdullatif, Tole Sutikno

Baghdad Science Journal

Classifying butterfly species is crucial in biodiversity studies and environmental monitoring. However, manual classification is often a laborious process that requires specialized expertise and is prone to error, especially when species have similar visual characteristics. To address these drawbacks, this paper presents a hybrid approach that combines machine learning with deep learning for feature extraction. To enhance the visibility of important features, preprocessing techniques such as background removal and binarization are applied to butterfly images. Feature extraction was performed using the SqueezeNet convolutional neural network, pretrained on the ImageNet dataset. By discarding the final classification layer, the network produced discriminative …

Deepfinsec: Advancing Online Financial Fraud Detection Via Structural Similarity-Based Graph Embedding, Diksha Sharma, Robin Prakash Mathur, Manmohan Sharma Sep 2026

Deepfinsec: Advancing Online Financial Fraud Detection Via Structural Similarity-Based Graph Embedding, Diksha Sharma, Robin Prakash Mathur, Manmohan Sharma

Baghdad Science Journal

The frequent use of digital technology has significantly increased the use of online transactions. Most financial activities are conducted electronically. Financial fraud involves deceiving individuals or businesses for monetary gain. The proposed graph node embedding technique, FA-Struc2vec, is applied to the financial transaction network to extract graph node features based on their structural similarity and generate node embeddings. The node embeddings serve as input to DeepFinSec, which classifies transactions into desired classes. DeepFinSec is a proposed DL-based model that is a hybrid of CNN and LSTM. CNN processes transaction data and extracts local and high-level abstract features while LSTM captures …

Greenwavetransformer: A Lightweight Forecast-Driven Control Framework Toward Sustainable Data Center Management, Esraa Monzer Alqasmy, Nizar Nouri Alhafez Sep 2026

Greenwavetransformer: A Lightweight Forecast-Driven Control Framework Toward Sustainable Data Center Management, Esraa Monzer Alqasmy, Nizar Nouri Alhafez

Baghdad Science Journal

Cloud computing continues to consume increasing amounts of energy, adding to operating costs and making sustainability and service reliability harder to maintain. Resource management, however, is still largely reactive in many systems: decisions are made after workload or renewable-energy conditions have already changed, with little use of what is likely to happen next. GreenWaveTransformer is designed around this gap. It combines a wavelet-based Transformer with an offline reinforcement-learning (RL) controller so that resource-management decisions can be informed by expected operating conditions rather than by the current state alone. A discrete wavelet transform is used to represent nonlinear and nonstationary workload …

Nucseg: An Effective Detectron2 Architecture For Nuclei Instance Segmentation In Histological Images, Payman Hussein Hussan, Syefy Mohammed Mangj Sep 2026

Nucseg: An Effective Detectron2 Architecture For Nuclei Instance Segmentation In Histological Images, Payman Hussein Hussan, Syefy Mohammed Mangj

Baghdad Science Journal

Nuclei are often minuscule objects within histological whole slide imaging (WSI), presenting a labor-intensive task for pathologists to identify and analyze their characteristics. The precise identification of nuclei is essential in cancer pathology to conduct both quantitative and qualitative assessments of cancerous cells found within a slice of a tumor in order to assess the level of malignancy of the tumor; and to predict the outcome of the tumor. Manual identification is labor-intensive and prone to errors, whereas automatic recognition is complicated by the varied appearances and overlapping characteristics of nuclei, along with artifacts from digital photography. To address this …

Securitisation Without Consent: Digital Dissent And State Power In Kenya’S 2024 Protests, Dudley M. Gaciku, Arfin Sudirman, Irman G. Lanti

Jurnal Wacana Politik

This paper examines how digitally mediated dissent is securitised in hybrid regimes using Kenya's 2024-2025 protest cycle as a case study. Although the Copenhagen School gives precedence to audience acceptance in determining the success or failure of a securitising move, the paper critiques this viewpoint drawing on contemporary securitisation scholarship. Through a qualitative case study approach, the research draws on official state communications, social media content, media reports, human rights documentation, and the researcher's reflexive observations during the protests. The findings illustrate that although the #RejectFinanceBill movement was framed by the state as a threat to national stability, public safety, …

The Illusion Of Normative Convergence: A Neoclassical Realist Analysis Of The Ieu-Cepa And Eudr Collision, Pribadi Sutiono, Mansur Juned

Jurnal Wacana Politik

In 2026, The European Union’s geoeconomic strategy is increasingly defined by the systemic dynamics of the renewed US-China rivalry, the transatlantic alliance fracture under the Trump administration, and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. To mitigate these dynamics, the EU has aggressively pivoted to the Global South, prioritizing the Indonesia-EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA). However, the EU also seeks to enforce its normative climate agenda via the imminent December 2026 implementation of the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which contains points that also became central to the discussion on the IEU-CEPA. This research utilizes a Neoclassical Realism (NCR) framework and qualitative …

Epidemic Dynamics Under Pulse Population Exchange, Hannah Kravitz, Christina Durón, Moysey Brio Sep 2026

Epidemic Dynamics Under Pulse Population Exchange, Hannah Kravitz, Christina Durón, Moysey Brio

Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Publications and Presentations

Many epidemiological models assume either closed populations or continuous demographic turnover. We consider an intermediate setting in which exchange occurs through discrete pulses. In this paper, we introduce a population-conserving compartmental epidemiological model with pulse population exchange at a set of prescribed times. At each pulse, a fraction of the population in each compartment is replaced by a combination of susceptible and immunized individuals. In contrast to typical pulse birth or pulse vaccination models where only a single compartment undergoes a pulse population change, the pulses in this model have competing effects: removing infectious individuals reduces the force of infection, …
