Ugnu Pilot Area - Simulation Model And Sensitivity Analysis, Arin J. Wooster

Engineering

Collaborating with Hilcorp Alaska, LLC, the Ugnu pilot area is the subject of this project. Hilcorp Alaska is conducting field pilot test at Milne Point Field to prove commerciality with Ugnu heavy oil as well as an on-going Milne viscous oil polymer flood field pilot test in the Schrader Bluff sands. The Ugnu sand heavy oil represents much of the heavy oil on Alaska’s North Slope and has potential for future development. Typical heavy oil has a viscosity of 1,000 - 10,000 centipoise, approximately akin to viscosities of honey and molasses, respectively. North Slope heavy oil is located around 3,000-foot …

Pivot: A Letter To Our Readers, Bonni Boles

Akesis

A Letter to Our Readers

We are proud to present you with this issue of Akesis during these unprecedented times. The theme for this issue is “Pivot”. Originally, this theme was proposed before COVID-19 even had a name, and the virus was something happening “out there” somewhere. After we had our lives turned upside down, then turned again, and again, and so on, the theme seemed even more fitting. For most of us, life since March has been focused on figuring out how to do what we want and need to do under circumstances that seem impossible to navigate. We …

Image Captioning And Comparison Of Different Encoders, Ankit Pal, Subasish Kar, Anuveksh Taneja, Vinay Kumar Jadoun

Generation of a sentence given an image, called image captioning, has been one of the most intriguing topics in computer vision. It incorporates knowledge of both image processing and natural language processing. Most of the current approaches integrates the concepts of neural network. Different predefined convolutional neural network (CNN) models are used for extracting features from an image and uni-directional or bi-directional recurrent neural network (RNN) for language modelling. This paper discusses about the commonly used models that are used as image encoder, such as Inception-V3, VGG19, VGG16 and InceptionResNetV2 while using the uni-directional LSTMs for the text generation. Further, …

Comparative Analysis Of 5 Level, 7 Level And 9 Level Half-Bridge Modular Multilevel Converter, Jatin, Anshul Agarwal, Vinay Kumar Jadoun

Open Access archive

This paper uses the topology of Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) to demonstrate Direct Current (DC) / Alternating current (AC) conversion implementation. For drive applications, a theoretical background is presented. The 5-stage MMC switching system is explained. The simulation was performed using cascaded interconnection of half-bridge submodules for single legs of three phase 5 level, 7 level and 9 level modular multilevel inverters. This paper is intended to examine Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) for different voltage stages.

Transcriptomic Analysis Of Poco1, A Mitochondrial Pentatricopeptide Repeat Protein Mutant In Arabidopsis Thaliana, Hossein Emami, Abhishek Kumar, Frank Kempken

Open Access archive

Background: Flowering is a crucial stage during plant development. Plants may respond to unfavorable conditions by accelerating reproductive processes like flowering. In a recent study, we showed that PRECOCIOUS1 (POCO1) is a mitochondrial pentatricopeptide repeat (PPR) protein involved in flowering time and abscisic acid (ABA) signaling in Arabidopsis thaliana. Here, we use RNA-seq data to investigate global gene expression alteration in the poco1 mutant. Results: RNA-seq analysis was performed during different developmental stages for wild-type and poco1 plants. The most profound differences in gene expression were found when wild-type and poco1 plants of the same developmental stage were compared. Coverage …

With many businesses across the country closed due to the covid-19 pandemic, a national conversation is taking place about industries and workers hit especially hard by work stoppages and how to help them. Unlike other industries, however, no federal bailout money is earmarked for pornography. Instead, the adult community, led by the industry’s main trade association, the Free Speech Coalition, is coming together to take care of its own.

Depaul Bioethicists And Their Roles In The Fight Against Covid-19, University Marketing And Communications, Craig Klugman, Valerie Koch

DePaul Download

At the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic are bioethicists, experts who help health professionals and elected officials navigate tough decisions. While the toughest choice for most of us was just staying home, bioethicists, such as DePaul’s Craig Klugman and Valerie Koch, helped answer tough questions to prepare communities for COVID-19. They both served on statewide planning efforts to prepare for a pandemic, and on this episode of DePaul Download, they discuss the response to COVID-19 and what may come next.
