Horizons at the University of Mississippi is a key initiative in the McLean Institute for Public Service and Community Engagement’s mission to fight poverty through education. Horizons is a six-week, full-day summer learning program that provides academics, enrichment, and recreation to students from the LOU community. Horizons offers a high quality learning experience outside of the traditional school year that supports academic achievement and healthy youth development. Children who begin Horizons after kindergarten are invited back every summer for at least nine years. This long-term commitment means that children in Horizons will accumulate learning gains, not learning losses.

Antibiotic resistance (AMR) is the one of the biggest threats facing humans and animals in the 21^st century. This has been caused by the overuse and misuse of antibiotics leading to the desperate need for innovative therapeutic alternatives. Research is ongoing regarding the use of bacteriophages as a possible viable antimicrobial agent. However, various limitations exist which hinder their use including their narrow host range. This limitation poses a significant threat to the development of phage therapies as it requires phenotypic characterisation of clinical isolates to ensure compatibility between strains and phage. Purpose: αA-Crystallin (αAc) binding with lens membranes increases with age and cataract formation. However, the role of lipids and cholesterol (Chol) in Q147E-αAc membrane binding remains unclear, which we aim to elucidate in this study.

Methods: We have used the electron paramagnetic resonance spin-labeling method to probe the Chol/ 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoylphosphatidylcholine (POPC) and Chol/ sphingomyelin (SM) membranes binding with wild-type (WT) and Q147E-αAc.

Results: Compared to WT-αAc, the Q147E mutant had increased binding to POPC and decreased binding to SM membranes without Chol. Adding 33 mol% Chol to the POPC and SM membranes decreased the binding of WT and, to a …

This study delves into the small-scale temperature structure inside the turbulent convection Pi Chamber under three temperature differences (10, 15, and 20 K) at Rayleigh number Ra ~ 10^9 and Prandtl number Pr = 0.7. We performed high-frequency measurements (2 kHz) with the UltraFast Thermometer (UFT) at selected points along the vertical axis. We present bloom patterns as a family of radially expansive, flat-foldable, and developable origami patterns, many of which are rotationally symmetric. Bloom patterns are defined with a generalized definition and a standardized definition. A classification scheme for bloom patterns is identified, and several types of bloom patterns are analysed. South Dakota Farm Survey

A farmer survey was conducted from February 22nd to March 9th, 2025 to test the impact of message framing on farmers’ learning and adoption decisions of biochar. The survey targeted operators of farms in Eastern South Dakota where the production of corn requires chemical fertilizer is intensively used as a crucial input. Biochar as a soil amendment has the potential to serve as a partial substitute for chemical fertilizer in our studied region. In September 2024, key representatives from European Union (EU) directorates and agencies convened to enhance collaboration with Africa in strengthening health research, innovation, and implementation. The meeting focused on bolstering joint efforts to improve health outcomes and support wellbeing across all ages in Africa. Despite progress in addressing infectious diseases, the continent faces a dual burden with the rise of non-communicable diseases and emerging threats such as antimicrobial resistance, climate change, falsified medicines, and pandemic risks. These challenges are exacerbated by fragile health systems, rapid population growth, urbanisation, and limited access to affordable medical interventions.

All ideas generated by 15 teams of BYU students are included in the database. The ideas have been placed into an OPED genealogy tree format. The quality of all the ideas has been evaluated. The novelty of one team's ideas has been evaluated.

Instructions for performing the OPED organization, evaluating quality, and evaluating novelty are included in the data workbook.
