Faculty Journal Articles

The United Nations’ sustainable development goals (SDGs) are now entering their decade of action. We are supporting this decade by further encouraging the International Journal of Production Research (IJPR) and its scholarly community to lead on contributing to global SDGs through research, knowledge development, and dissemination. There are islands of excellence that are evident from the past 60 years of IJPR research – especially in ecologically sustainable production-related SDG. There are also serious SDG gaps – for example, general environmental, gender, and inclusiveness research – that can provide additional insights that can greatly advance the IJPR disciplines. This thematic analysis …

We test for social norms regarding how agents should select between risky prospects for principals, including norms consistent with beneficence and justice propositions from Adam Smith. We elicit norms from subjects serving as "impartial spectator[s]" about choice of risky prospect selected by the agents. We find strong evidence for the existence of norms, consistent with the Smith propositions. Furthermore we find that agents are more likely to select more normative options. In contrast, we find that principals' allocation for bonuses depends on the realization of the risky prospect rather than whether the agents choice was consistent with the norm.

Improved Fish Migration Optimization With The Opposition Learning Based On Elimination Principle For Cluster Head Selection, Xing-Wei Xu, Jeng-Shyang Pan, Ali Wagdy Mohamed, Shu-Chuan Chu

Faculty Journal Articles

In the wireless sensor networks (WSN), the cluster head node receives and aggregates the information collected by the sensors and forwards it to the base station (BS). Appropriate cluster head nodes help reduce the energy consumed for information transmission and prolong the network’s lifetime. The fish migration optimization (FMO) algorithm is an emerging meta-heuristic algorithm, that imitates the grayling foraging and breeding in nature. This paper proposes a modified FMO (modFMO) algorithm, which uses an opposition learning based on the elimination principle and Cauchy-based mutation to enhance the FMO algorithm. The improved modFMO is compared with some excellent algorithms on …

Understanding Changes In Cassava Root Dry Matter Yield By Different Planting Dates, Crop Ages At Harvest, Fertilizer Application And Varieties, Rebecca Oiza Enesi, Stefan Hauser, Pieter Pypers, Christine Kreye, Meklit Tariku, Johan Six

All Peer-Reviewed Publications

Cassava is a perennial crop that can adapt to periods of drought at different times in a growing season, which permits scheduling planting and harvest to develop production systems supplying roots continuously. However, farmers plant and harvest cassava at the onset of rains which creates glut and results in unattractive root prices. Thus, farmers need to understand how cassava varieties respond to different planting dates and crop ages at harvest to be able to use opportunities in income generation that may arise from flexible planting and harvest dates resulting from price and dry matter (DM) variabilities. Thus, this study was …
