Macrophyte Community Analysis Of The Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, The Pearl River, And The Pascagoula River, Samuel A. Schmid, Nicholas J. Engle-Wrye, Gray Turnage Nov 2025

Macrophyte Community Analysis Of The Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, The Pearl River, And The Pascagoula River, Samuel A. Schmid, Nicholas J. Engle-Wrye, Gray Turnage

Research Data

The macrophyte Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, Pearl River, and Pascagoula River were surveyed using point surveys. Data collected from these surveys were used to determine differences in species composition among macrophyte communities, how latitude affected species richness, and how the presence/absence of introduced species was affected by native richness. Differences in species composition were measured using NMDS, and the latitude-richness and introduced-native relationships were modeled using linear modeling methods. This record includes the data and code used for these analyses.

Spatial–Temporal Deep Learning For Electric-Vehicle Charging Demand: An Exploratory Study Of Graph Convolutional And Lstm Networks Performance, Maher Alaraj, Carla Martins, Mohammed Radi, Mohamed Darwish, Munir Majdalawieh Nov 2025

Spatial–Temporal Deep Learning For Electric-Vehicle Charging Demand: An Exploratory Study Of Graph Convolutional And Lstm Networks Performance, Maher Alaraj, Carla Martins, Mohammed Radi, Mohamed Darwish, Munir Majdalawieh

All Works

Electric-vehicle (EV) charging is a localized, time-varying load that challenges distribution networks. This study offers practical insights into when spatial graph structure adds value beyond temporal context, utilizing real-world data and a transparent evaluation. We compare Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and Graph Convolutional Network (GCN) models for hourly EV-charging energy forecasting, based on 145,778 sessions recorded in Boulder, Colorado (2018–2023). After preprocessing and temporal alignment, temporal covariates (hour, day, month, year) and, when applicable, ZIP-code indicators were engineered. LSTMs were trained with 1 h and 24 h input windows, with or without ZIP features, and evaluated through 5-fold cross-validation. GCNs …

The Associations Between Meniscus Tear Location And The Prevalence And Severity Of Cartilage Wear In Different Knee Compartments Using An Arthroscopic Grading System, Tara Korbal, Claudia Leonardi, Amy Bronstone, Vinod Dasa

School of Medicine Faculty Publications

Introduction: Meniscus tears are associated with progressive cartilage degeneration and worsening osteoarthritis. Although several previous studies have explored the relationship between meniscus tears and cartilage damage, few have examined the relationship between tear location and cartilage wear in all knee compartments using an arthroscopic grading system. Objectives: Evaluate the association between meniscus tear location and the prevalence and severity of high-grade cartilage wear in knee compartments. Methods: A total of 210 patients were categorized into groups based on meniscus tear location: medial meniscus tear (MMT, n = 106), lateral meniscus tear (LMT, n = 41), and medial-lateral meniscus tear (MLMT, …

Passive Listening: Exploring Interpassivity In Ambient Music, David Chechelashvili, Alan Brown Nov 2025

Passive Listening: Exploring Interpassivity In Ambient Music, David Chechelashvili, Alan Brown

Staff Scholarship - New Zealand

The landscape of ambient music presents unique challenges for critique and classification due to its wide range of subgenres, functions and goals. Often defined by its atmospheric and immersive qualities, ambient music is traditionally seen as providing a backdrop for relaxation or as a means to block out the harsh reality of the outside world. This dominant theory, while valuable in certain contexts, tends to oversimplify the multifaceted nature of ambient music and ignores the potential for more nuanced listening experiences. The proposed alternative theory of interpassivity challenges existing understandings of ambient music production and consumption modes. Drawing on psychoanalytic …

Data Supporting “Large Aerosol Particles Favor Haze Conditions Through Limitations On Water Budget And Activation Kinetics”, Hamed Fahandezh Sadi, Ernie Lewis, Kadja Flore Gali, Fan Yang, Jesse Anderson, Suryadey P. Singh, Jae Min Yeom, Will Cantrell, Raymond Shaw

Michigan Tech Research Data

Experiments in the Pi Convection-Cloud Chamber conducted by systematically changing the diameter of injected dry aerosol particles while holding the temperature gradient constant demonstrate that dry diameter strongly influences the onset of haze-dominated conditions. Two factors contribute: the system becomes water-limited, resulting in reduction of supersaturation by growing aerosol particles to the activation diameter; and the activation process becomes kinetically limited. Aerosol dry diameter exerts a strong influence on activation time, with a power-law exponent of 9/2. Kinetically-limited activation occurs when the ratio of the activation and droplet residence times is greater than unity. The findings demonstrate that a haze-dominated …

Dataset For Temperature And Cholesterol Regulate The Association Of Native Bovine Lens Alpha-Crystallin With In Vitro Reconstituted Membranes Made Of Synthetically Prepared Lipids And Cholesterol, Navdeep Kalkat, Geraline Trossi-Torres, Preston Hazen, Laxman Mainali

Biophysics Research Data

α-Crystallin (αABc) association with the lens membrane is accelerated in cataracts, and cholesterol (Chol) in lens membranes is accelerated in healthy aging and decreases with cataracts. This study investigates how temperature and Chol affect the membrane interactions of αABc. We applied the electron spin resonance method to analyze the membrane association of αABc incubated with (Chol)/model of bovine lens-lipid (MBLL) membranes at temperatures of 30, 37, 45, and 52 °C with Chol/MBLL mixing ratios of 0.0, 0.3, and 1.5. The highest percent of membrane exterior surface occupied (HMEO) by αABc to Chol/MBLL membranes at mixing ratios of 0.0 and 0.3 …

Retaining The Herd: Habitat Restoration Efforts Increase Patch Retention Times In Mule Deer, Jack Rasmussen Nov 2025

Retaining The Herd: Habitat Restoration Efforts Increase Patch Retention Times In Mule Deer, Jack Rasmussen

Browse all Datasets

Across much of their range, and the State of Utah, mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) populations have been declining. Declines in herd numbers can be attributed to alterations to historic habitats through the introduction of exotic annual grasses and the encroachment of pinyon-juniper forests on sagebrush ecosystems, changing resource availability. To combat habitat alterations, the Utah Department of Natural Resources has implemented various habitat restoration treatments through the Watershed Restoration Initiative , broadly to remove exotic species and decrease pinyon juniper woodland encroachment. We investigated how mule deer patch retention times differ on eight different habitat restoration treatment types during summer …

Sadi, Jae Min Yeom, Suryadey P. Singh, Pei Hou, Will Cantrell, Ernie R. Lewis, Alexander Kostinski, Raymond Shaw

Michigan Tech Research Data

Cloud optical properties and precipitation, which are crucial to weather and climate, are strongly influenced by cloud microphysical properties that are still poorly understood. Here, we develop a high-resolution time-correlated single-photon-counting lidar and apply it to observe cloud microphysical properties at one-centimeter range resolution in a convection chamber under well-controlled conditions. Together with concurrent in-situ measurements and theoretical analysis, our lidar observations indicate that although turbulent mixing tends to homogenize the cloud in the bulk region, entrainment and sedimentation cause inhomogeneities in droplet concentrations near the cloud top. Specifically, the topmost region is directly affected by entrainment, and lidar profiles …
