The English Patient: A Model Of Patient Perceptions Of Triage In An Urgent Care Department In England, Jeffrey A. Miles, Stefanie E. Naumann

We present research examining the role of organizational justice in the perceptions of patients visiting the urgent care department of a hospital. Patients' perceptions of uncertainty were found to mediate the relationship between waiting time and satisfaction and between waiting time and anger. Further, waiting time was significantly negatively related to procedural justice perceptions. Procedural justice perceptions were significantly positively related to distributive justice perceptions, which in turn, were significantly positively associated with satisfaction. We discuss the implications concerning managing the attitudes of waiting customers.

This course highlights design and evaluation of surface irrigation systems, field measurements for evaluating and improving uniformity and efficiency, simulation of surface systems, and land leveling computation and equipment. The Relationship Between Organizational Ethical Culture And The Ethical Behavior Of Employees: A Study Of Accounting And Finance Professionals In The Insurance Industry Of United States, Akwasi Ampofo, Bahaudin G. Mujtaba, Frank J. Cavico, Laura Tindall

This study explores the relationship between organizational ethical culture and ethical behavior of accounting/finance professionals working in the insurance industry in the United States. Results of 100 respondents in five different insurance organizations suggest that there is a significant relationship between organizational ethical culture and ethical behavioral intentions given bad debt write off and insider trading ethical vignettes. This was consistent with prior research findings that written (formal) and unwritten (informal) organizational policies significantly affect employees' ethical decision-making (Sims and Keon, 2000 & 1997). Key (1999) also argued that organizational culture sends messages as to sanctioned and unsanctioned behavior.

Coupling refers to a flux occurring without its primary thermodynamic driving force; for example, mass flux without a concentration gradient called the thermal diffusion is a well-known coupled process. Coupling also refers to a flux occurring in a direction opposite to the direction imposed by its driving force; for example, a mass flux can occur from a low to a high concentration region and is called the active transport or uphill transport, such as potassium and sodium pumps coupled to chemical energy released by the hydrolysis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in biological systems. The Bay Study Group was created by the City of Tampa in 1976 to monitor the effects of pollution abatement that occurred in Hillsborough Bay when the city’s wastewater treatment plant was upgraded from primary to advanced treatment in 1979. The Bay Study Group documented a remarkable restoration of water quality parameters and biological indicators in Hillsborough Bay from the mid 1980s until 2009, when it was disbanded. This zip Geodatabase file contains the photo point locations, aerial photos, and flight maps for the year 2004.

Species Composition Changes In A Rooftop Grass And Wildflower Meadow: Implication For Designing Successful Mixtures, Daniel W. Dewey, Paul G. Johnson, Roger Kjelgren

Based on our observations of a grass and wildflower meadow growing in 7 radiation zones on the roof of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, we identified 21 species that should be considered for future grass/wildflower mixture studies. We also found a single wildflower species and 1 grass species that were too aggressive for mixtures, and 4 wildflower species and 3 species of grass that were not aggressive enough. Mixtures of grasses and wildflowers can be aesthetically appealing, water-conserving, low-maintenance alternatives to conventional turfgrass.

We investigated water use and a water needs index multiplier relative to reference evapotranspiration (ETo) for a sweetgum cultivar (Liquidambar styraciflua L. ‘Moraine’) in three different regions of the US: semi-arid (Logan, Utah), semi-humid (Lubbock, Texas), and humid (Orlando, Florida). Three individual field-grown trees, approximately 80 mm trunk diameter, were potted in to large containers with organic media at each location. Sweetgum water use (Tsw) was then measured over the season at each location with load cells connected to data-loggers, concurrent with measurement of ETo from adjacent weather stations. Post-Training Support For Learning Technology, Sam Snoddy Jr., David G. Novick

To examine the effects of post-training support, we studied the introduction of new gradebook software in a public high school. The school's 108 faculty members received training on the software, and approximately half of the faculty received posttraining support for eight weeks. The study measured the faculty's current computer usage, usage of earlier versions of the software, and their perceived skill levels in using the software. The data suggest that the faculty members who received post-training support maintained and raised their skill levels, while unsupported faculty had their skill levels decline.

Assessing Effectiveness Of Personality Style In Documentation, Kenneth Sayles, David G. Novick

This paper extends previous work by other researchers that indicated that users of computers preferred a computer with a personality that was similar to theirs. We conducted a similar experiment, but looking beyond preference to see if the personality of documentation would make a difference in the user’s performance. Our data suggest did not indicate that personality match affects performance; and if such a relationship exists it is likely to be weak. We discuss the related research, describe our methodology, present our results, and describe their implications and limitations.

Solvent-Free Conversion Of Alpha-Naphthaldehyde To 1-Naphthoic Acid And 1-Naphthalenemethanol: Application Of The Cannizzaro Reaction, John J. Esteb, Keith M. Glogorich, Stacey A. O'Reilly

The Cannizzaro reaction is routinely covered in organic textbooks, but owing to the shortage of suitable procedures for the undergraduate teaching laboratory, this reaction is seldom performed in a first-year organic chemistry class. In this experiment, powdered potassium hydroxide and α-naphthaldehyde are heated under solvent-free conditions to produce 1-naphthoic acid and 1-naphthalenemethanol in 86% and 79% yields, respectively. The solvent-free nature of this procedure greatly reduces the quantity of waste generated by students relative to the typical solvent-based method of preparation. Simple Epoxide Formation For The Organic Laboratory Using Oxone, John J. Esteb

We present an epoxide formation experiment for a second-semester organic chemistry laboratory. This oxidation utilizes Oxone, a commercially available oxidizing agent, in the industrially relevant process of epoxide formation. The oxidant performing the oxidation is dimethyldioxirane, which is formed in situ. This experiment demonstrates a simple synthesis of an epoxide and formation of a secondary oxidizing agent.
